Mexico v USA (5-2) Baseball Highlights - World Baseball Classic Round 1 [08 03 2013]
Adrian Gonzalez leading Team Mexico against the United States in the World Baseball Classic.
Team USA playing its first game of the tourney. Top of the first, U.S. starter R.A. Dickey is
already allowed a run, and with a man on third and one out, Gonzalez will ground out to the
right side. That scores Ramiro Pena, and Team Mexico has a 2-0 lead after the top of the first.
Bottom one, a pair of Milwaukee Brewers squaring off. Giovanni Gallardo facing teammate Ryan Braun.
Braun gives it a ride deep to right center field, but Eduardo Arredondo tracks it down
and hauls it in to end the frame. Top three, it's Dickey versus Gonzalez once again,
and Agon delivers a big blow deep to right center field, and that ball is gone. Gonzalez
signaling for the round tripper. The umpires want to be sure, so they'll take one more look at it,
and as you can see, the ball hits to the right of the yellow line at Chase Field in Phoenix,
Arizona. That is a home run, and Mexico leads this one 4-0. Bottom four, the United States
rally with two on and two out for David Wright. He'll shoot a single the other way off Luis Mendoza.
That scores Jimmy Rollins. The run charts to Giovanni Gallardo, but Team USA would score no
more in the fourth. In the sixth inning, it's 5-1 Mexico, but Giancarlo Stanton takes Jose
Cobos deep to center with two on and two out, but it dies at the warning track. Arredondo hauls it
in to end the frame. Bottom eight, it's 5-2. Stanton gives it another ride, this time off
Fernando Salas, but that's not deep enough either. The U.S. would pull no closer. Bottom nine, Sergio
Romo on to close for Mexico. He took the loss in their classic opener on Thursday, but on Friday,
he pitches a clean ninth. He gets Jimmy Rollins to ground out to Gonzalez to end the ball game,
and Team Mexico is fired up, downing Team USA by a final of 5-2. Giovanni Gallardo gets the win in
this one. Romo picks up the save, and R.A. Dickey, the 2012 NL Cy Young Award winner,
takes the loss with four earned runs in four innings pitch.
