Here it is! The video with the reveal of the cabin! While I was editing the part of the build, I realized how quickly we forget what we have done, how far we have come, how much we have achieved... as we tend to always look forward, thinking about all that is still left to do... I am so proud of Olav, I just can't believe he did most of this all by himself. He keeps amazing me... Let's give him a big applause in the comments! He really deserves it! So happy the cabin is finished!!
Let me know what you think and leave a thumbs up for my incredible husband!
The footage of the building works is filmed by Olav, for his (Dutch) channel @Aan de Franse slag!
When our friend Pascale came to visit to help with the renovations of the farmhouse, we
showed her the installation of the septic tank.
And while we were standing in the farm field, looking at the forest and enjoying the view,
we said to each other, this would be such an amazing spot to build a cabin.
So we paused all of the renovations of the farmhouse and decided to take on the project
of building a cabin, a tiny house, all from scratch, with the help of Pascale,
who in the course of 9 months would travel from the Netherlands very often,
and with the help of our local builder Jean-François.
Might have been better years to take on such a project.
2021 went down in history as one of the wettest years and summers.
The local farmers said they hadn't seen this much rain in decades.
And it made our project extremely challenging.
We have had to wrap the entire tiny house up in plastic multiple times,
and we were disturbed really by the heavy rainfalls and storms all the time.
But we were just moving with the weather as good as we could,
taking advantage of the sunny days.
And also we're extremely grateful for the help we got from Pascale,
our neighbors and everyone who in the course of 9 months showed up to help.
Especially when Olaf had a small injury right at the start of the building project,
and he had to rest for 2 whole months.
Which he did, and I'm extremely proud of him
for being able to do that with all the pressure that he felt.
And at the end of summer he took up the building works with a positive spirit,
and again the help of our incredible friend.
We try to wash away our broken years, but it's so hard in the cold summer.
Nothing seems like it should.
Open up the window, breathing in the love September.
I can feel the wind blow, and the late summer sky is like a dying ember.
Everything is turning into gold.
When the autumn leaves are playing chase, it puts a smile upon my face.
They leave their branches one by one, and whirl around there just for fun.
Some are faster, some are slow, and some are high and some are low.
Dancing through the last days of September.
Since I was a little child, every year for as long as I remember.
All the leaves were running wild, going all the way until November.
Turn the world around us into gold.
When the autumn leaves are playing chase, it puts a smile upon my face.
They leave their branches one by one, and whirl around there just for fun.
Some are faster, some are slow, and some are high and some are low.
Dancing through the last days of September.
Windows swallow, sailing through the sky.
There's no way of knowing, but maybe someplace far from you and I.
When the autumn leaves are playing chase, it puts a smile upon my face.
They leave their branches one by one, and whirl around there just for fun.
Some are faster, some are slow, and some are high and some are low.
Dancing through the last days of September.
