Okay I'm back on track and it's already 6:30 in the morning pretty early
I'm heading now to a square that's nearby which is the Plaza del Poblado
Where I have arranged to go on a trip to a nearby village roughly speaking
From here in Medellín which is called Guatapé
It's a two-hour drive and well it was quite a hassle getting there
More later the little things to do and such I just preferred to do them directly
Hire a tour which is about twelve hours that takes you there
They explain the place but it's one of the most beautiful and essential sites
Well we've arrived at Guatapé after about two hours a bit more
It's packed today because it's the busiest weekend of the year
On the weekend of the Epiphany during the first week of January
And we are uh in Guatapé which is a town that was flooded in the 1970s
To create a dam for an energy need they had here in Colombia
Then in order to generate electricity they created a huge reservoir
That is what is today the base here in Guatapé
What is also very characteristic besides the reservoir itself is above all the rock
The Guatapé rock located in the middle of the town has about seven hundred steps
To go up to the top and it's not a very hard climb either
Yes it is true that it is quite hot but the worst part is that today
Since it's the day with the most people of the year there's a huge line
Then you're always standing on the stairs
So we'll see how long it takes us to climb up but that's for sure
From above there must be amazing views of the entire area around the reservoir
So the entry is twenty thousand pesos which is about five euros more or less
Despite the crowd it's definitely worth climbing because the views are amazing
So it's really beautiful everything
There's a tower there that well also causes a bit of a traffic jam because the road is quite narrow
But you still have a 360-degree view of the entire area of everything that is the reservoir
I think it's really really beautiful
That's not too long to climb it takes about fifteen minutes
The thing is if it's already daytime and there are as many people as there are today then you might end up waiting half an hour or so
But anyway this area is private property which is the Rock
because a gentleman in the 1950s became infatuated with her
when this was still quite agricultural
and the people only used it here to farm
and since nothing could be farmed on this stone
Then a man who liked stone bought it for three cows and some money
And from then on he gradually built the stairs so people could climb up to it
and it started to charge beginning at 2 000 pesos and rising to 20 000 pesos
It is as of today at the beginning of the year 2020
I'm saying this because it tends to go up a lot two months ago it was 18 000 and it's already at 20 000
But it's worth it because they are about five glimmers
And you can be here you also have food and something to
drink The part that is not flooded obviously
It is a very beautiful town it is very
small it has barely 6 000 residents
It preserves the colors the town had back then before it was flooded
In fact it is considered one of the most colorful towns in the Antioquia region
and one of the most beautiful ones
and it is also known as the tocalos
at the soles are the lower parts of the houses
They have a kind of wood veneer with different patterns
and these patterns come in three types
It's the part that's more cultural
another part that has to do with all the traditions of Colombia
and from this part of the country
then they have the part that's more about personal preferences
They can already be for example if they like a specific cartoon
On such topics as they also personalize each home for them
And the rest of the neighbors are respected so that they are not copied
and then there is the family member
It is the only one that can be repeated in multiple buildings
Yes that's why because if they belong to the same family
they will have something like a kind of shield
But the same a drawing that represents the family itself
Step 1 Step 2
Step 3 Step 4
Step 5
Step 6
Step 9
Step 10 Step 11
Step 12
