ZipLoc® or other re-closable storage bags are way too valuable to toss after one use - but cleaning them - and especially drying them after washing, can be a pain! Watch DFJ show you a quick tip for fast drying that will allow you to keep these bags out of the landfill a little longer!
CAVEAT - We don't recommend reuse of bags that have held meats, especially chicken. Pathogens can hide out in the "nooks and crannies" of the bag, making it difficult to safely sanitize. In this case, either dispose of them or wash them out and using them in the garage or shop for parts and such.

Hey, Dirt Farmer Jay here. If you're like Dirt Farmer Maggie and I, we don't like to throw away
things after one use if it's safe to do so, and we like to use Ziploc bags or generic equivalents
more than one time. If you'd like to find an easy way how to dry them after you wash them,
stick with me. We've got a great solution for you.
I guess we're just too darn cheap to throw away a perfectly great closure type of bag,
whether it's the Ziploc or the slider or it's the kind you press together. These kind of bags like
this are usually too valuable after one use to just simply discard. Now, a little disclaimer on
that, though. If what was contained in this before was something that was meat-based,
let's say like a marinade or something that's heavily soiling like a tomato sauce or raw
chicken or something like that, be safe. Don't be sorry. Go ahead and discard it. But if it's
been full of dry goods, rice, pasta, beans, those types of things, or even stored some clean items
in it, but you want to use it ongoing, well, then you can wash it. And how we wash it is simply put
a squirt of soap in it, some pretty hot water inside it, zip it back up, swish it around like
a pillow, and then drain it out, and then rinse it. That's pretty straightforward. But getting the
darn things to dry or to dry them can be a real hassle. Well, there's two ways that we do it
around our place. One, if you have a little drying rack like this, this is a little birdhouse type
of thing we built several years ago, and we have one around here we use ongoing, and this same
models in several of our family members' homes as well. But as you can see, it's kind of like a
birdhouse deal. It spreads apart the bag after you wash it and allows air to get up in it to
circulate and to naturally let it air dry. Now, if you don't want something like this on your counter
or you don't want to build it or you're simply impatient and you want it dry now, well, there's
a quick way to do that as well. So here you got a wet bag here, and there's two ways of any way
to accomplish something, and that is either to bring the item to the work or the work to the
item, okay? So this is what's going to do the job. We're going to, instead of trying to get
this item dried by rubbing around on it, instead what we're going to do is just take our towel,
put it inside the bag, and if you want to zip it, you can. I don't care. It's up to you. But by doing
so and then simply rolling it around and then make sure you're getting into the corners as well,
now the bag is wrapping around the towel. Instead of you chasing the bag, it's holding the towel.
And as you can see, when you do that, let's go ahead and zip it. What you get? Well, look at that.
Okay, let's try it again just to make sure I wasn't faking you out here. We'll try it with
a little one here. This is obviously pretty wet right here, okay? So you can put in the towel,
and if the towel is too big to fit in the whole thing, just cram it in as far as you can,
and then again rub the piece all over the towel, paying special attention to the corners because
that's where it's going to tend to hold it when you bring it all out. Look at that. We are dry
and ready to go. You put that right in your drawer and have it ready to go for the next item that you
need to store. Well, if you like the tip, please click the like button and pass this on to somebody
else. And if you have a tip like this we can make use of, sharing it with our other viewers as well,
that'd be great. Send it on to us. Until the next time, this is Dirt Farmer Jay.
