Hello, everyone. 안녕하세요. Welcome back to Christine's Fun Fun Korean Conversation.
How are you today? If you feel okay, all right.
Last and so far, we learned about basic Korean conversation and introducing oneself.
Do you still remember them? Please don't forget them.
And today, we're gonna learn about Lesson 3, Location.
What's the location? And why we have to learn about location?
Because when you visit Korea, you should have or you have some place to visit.
But you don't know about Korea at all.
And even though you have a map, you have to ask people how to get there.
That's why I prepared this lesson for you to know how to find the way, okay?
So, this lesson contains where is the...
For instance, where is the cafeteria or where is the Gyeongbokgung, the famous temple in Korea or something like that.
And even though you know how to ask this question, if you don't know, if you don't understand what Korean people says,
you can find, you can find a place. It's impossible, right?
So, I prepared a few possible answers you might hear from Korean people.
This one is over there, over there.
So, oh, where is the, where is the Gyeongbokgung?
Ah, over there. See? Simple.
And right and left, right and left.
So, right and left.
For instance, oh, I'm looking for Gyeongbokgung. Where is the Gyeongbokgung?
It's on your right. It's on your left.
So, it's a basic.
And the last one is next to and in front of.
So, you just took a subway and you want to go to bathroom.
And you ask, oh, where is the bathroom? Where is the restroom?
And they say, oh, it's next to the ticket office.
It's in front of the ticket office or it's next to the exit.
So, next to and in front of, right and left, over there,
these are really frequent expression we use when we tell people the way.
Okay?
So, but you know what?
This lesson is a little hard for you to understand
because unlike other classes in the past,
these three expressions are really, no, not really.
It's a little hard and it's a little confusing
because it's about direction.
So, but don't worry.
Just keep focusing on and I will tell you how to pronounce
and how to say these expressions in Korean.
And watch me and please follow me.
Okay? Good.
And see, let's see the first expression.
Where is the? Where is the? Where is the?
In Korean, where is the means 어디 있어요?
어디 있어요?
One more time.
어디 있어요?
So, here's the spelling in English.
어디 있어요?
So, if you think this is a little long to pronounce,
after saying 어디, two words and take a pause and say 있어요.
Okay? So, 어디 있어요?
Okay? One more time.
어디 있어요?
This is where is the? Where is the?
Now, you want to ask people where is the restroom?
Where is the restroom?
The reason I picked this example is I asked my American friend.
American friend.
So, if you have chance to learn Korean,
what's the first expression you want to know?
And she said, where is the restroom?
I asked, why?
Because this is really important.
If I feel really urgent that I really want to go to bathroom,
if I can't say this question, what I'm going to do?
It's going to be bombed.
Right?
So, this expression is I thought important.
So, where is the restroom?
Where is the restroom?
In Korean, restroom.
Restroom.
Where is the?
어디 있어요?
So, restroom.
어디 있어요?
One more time.
Restroom.
어디 있어요?
Okay? So, where is the is 어디 있어요?
So, in front of, after, where is the, if you just, depending on the location you want to go,
just say, put the name here.
And say the, say and make this sentence.
Where is the restroom?
Restroom. 어디 있어요?
And, for instance, where is the cafeteria?
If you're hungry, where is cafeteria or where is the restaurant?
Cafeteria or restaurant.
So, this is really basic and essential to know.
So, don't forget.
And, let's say an example.
Oh, too long.
It's okay.
And, restroom.
And, you just know restroom, restroom.
But, if you don't know about this in Korean,
even though you know how to speak,
Oh, restroom 어디 있어요?
But, Korean people, a few Korean people can understand.
What's a restroom?
Restroom in Korean means 화장실.
화장실. 화장실.
화. 화.
Make your mouth bigger.
화. 화장실.
Okay?
화장실.
Okay, see.
Where is the restroom?
How can you say that?
In English, you just said,
Restroom 어디 있어요?
And, but you know what the restroom is in Korean.
So, 화장실 어디 있어요?
화장실 어디 있어요?
Okay?
Make sense?
화장실 어디 있어요?
But, here's tip.
If you really want to go to restroom,
you feel urgent,
if you just have a signal of nature,
and you can remember this long sentence.
But, the only thing you can remind of is 화장실.
And, tell Korean people,
화장실. 화장실. 화장실.
And, they're going to tell you where the restroom is.
But, now you're taking my lesson,
so I want you to say the perfect sentence.
Just don't tell them 화장실. 화장실.
Instead, 화장실 어디 있어요?
Now you know this.
화장실 어디 있어요?
And, next one, I think the restroom is also important.
Because you have to eat,
to look around,
to travel.
Okay?
So, restaurant means 식당.
식당. 식당.
Okay? 식당.
So, where is the restaurant?
Where is the restaurant?
What's restaurant?
식당.
So, 식당, where is the?
어디 있어요?
Simple. Okay?
식당 어디 있어요?
When you're looking for the restroom,
ask Korean,
화장실 어디 있어요?
And, when you're looking for the restaurant,
just ask,
식당 어디 있어요?
Okay?
So, keep this expression.
어디 있어요?
In your mind.
So, as long as you know this expression,
you can ask any location you want.
Okay?
어디 있어요?
Alright.
And, next expression.
Over there.
Now, you ask the question.
And, Korean people can tell you
where the place is.
So, it's a possible answer.
Over there.
Oh, where is the?
Oh, where is the restroom?
Over there.
Simple.
Right?
In Korean,
저기예요.
One more time.
저기예요.
And, next one.
Right here.
Where is the restroom?
Right here.
This is the restroom.
여기예요.
So, there means 저기.
Here means 여기.
So, over there,
저기예요.
Right here,
여기예요.
So, after asking,
화장실 어디 있어요?
Where is the restroom?
And, I'm gonna say,
저기예요.
Over there.
It's the answer.
It's the response from Korean people.
I know.
What's 저기예요?
Over there.
And, say thank you.
감사합니다.
Make sense?
Or, 여기예요.
This is the restroom.
Or, right here.
여기예요.
Here.
Thank you.
감사합니다.
Okay?
So, over there.
저기예요.
Right here.
Or, 여기예요.
Good?
And, this one.
Ah, this one is a little confusing.
But, keep your focus here.
Right.
Right hands.
Maybe, in your case,
this is right hands.
Right?
This is right hands in my case.
So, right.
Right means 오른쪽.
Oh, pronunciation is too hard.
But, take it slowly and pronounce each word.
오.
You know 오.
Alphabet 오.
른.
And, 쪽.
쪽.
Americans sometimes have a problem to pronounce these strong sounds.
Because, you don't have that.
So, when you speak,
this double J,
just like, intense your pronunciation.
쪽.
Not 족 or 족.
쪽.
So, 오.
른.
쪽.
Right?
오른쪽.
One more time.
오.
Alphabet 오.
오.
른.
쪽.
오른쪽.
When you pronounce this difficult pronunciation,
try to make your mouth bigger and follow me.
오.
른.
쪽.
Good.
And, left.
Left.
In your case, this is left.
Left means 왼쪽.
오.
이.
왼.
쪽.
오.
이.
위.
왼.
왼쪽.
Make sense?
왼쪽.
So, right means 오.
른.
쪽.
오른쪽.
Left, 왼쪽.
왼쪽.
So, this is my right side.
In Korean, 오른쪽.
This is my left side.
왼쪽.
And, it's on the right.
It's on your right.
And this is the sentence,
It's on.
It's on is
에.
있어요.
This 에 is locative particle,
usually added before the direction and location.
And, you will learn this from the grammar class.
I will skip this part.
Anyway,
에 있어요.
It's on.
에 있어요.
So, it's on the right.
And, add 오른, add right here.
So, it's gonna be,
오른쪽 에 있어요.
Make sense?
It's on the left.
왼쪽.
Left means 왼쪽.
왼쪽 에 있어요.
So, like, where is the?
This is, that's the basic expression you have to remember.
Likewise, it's important when you understand the direction.
So, keep this in your mind.
And, let's see the example.
It's on the right.
Oh, I just told you.
It's on the right.
Right.
오른쪽.
It's on.
에 있어요.
I keep telling you, if the sentence is long,
just take a pause in the middle and finish your sentence.
Like, 오른쪽 에 있어요.
Much easier.
Okay?
Next one.
It's on the left.
The left means 왼쪽.
왼쪽.
It's on.
에 있어요.
왼쪽 에 있어요.
왼쪽 에.
Pause.
있어요.
Okay?
So, your question was, where is the restroom?
화장실 어디예요?
Over there.
저기예요.
Right here.
여기예요.
It's on the right.
오른쪽에 있어요.
It's on the left.
왼쪽에 있어요.
Four possible answers.
Remember.
Okay?
And, last one.
Next to.
When we describe the direction, we just pick the building or the spot,
and we just tell them,
Oh, it's next to the post office.
It's next to the library.
Or, it's in front of the library.
Like this.
So, next to and in front of,
these two expressions are also essential,
and it's possible answers you could hear from the Korean.
So, next to.
Next to.
옆에.
옆.
Okay?
옆.
And, in front of.
앞.
So, your question was, where is the restroom?
Oh, restroom is next to me.
Here is the restroom.
Christine, next to.
옆에.
Okay?
Next to Christine.
Christine, 옆에.
And, where is the restroom?
It's in front of Christine.
I'm Christine, right?
Christine, 앞에.
옆에.
Or, 옆에.
And, 앞에.
Good?
So, let's see the examples.
It's next to.
옆에.
You know this, right?
It's a verb and the ending sentence.
있어요.
옆에 있어요.
So, where is the restroom?
It's next to Christine.
I'm Christine.
It's next to Christine.
Christine, me, next to.
옆에 있어요.
Make sense?
It's next to Christine.
Christine, 옆에 있어요.
Make sense?
And, so, usually when you are looking for the restroom in Korea,
especially in the subway station,
the restroom is usually next to the exit.
Next to the exit.
I'm not going to tell you what the exit is in Korean
because your brain is already filled with these old expressions.
I will tell you later this.
Next to the exit.
The exit is next to.
옆에 있어요.
Remember?
And, in front of.
앞에 있어요.
As I said, 있어요.
It's ending sentence.
앞에 있어요.
It's in front of the exit.
The exit.
앞에.
앞에 있어요.
So far so good?
옆에 있어요.
앞에 있어요.
Okay.
And, let's review.
Where is the?
어디 있어요?
Important.
Five stars.
Where is the restroom?
Restroom?
화장실 어디 있어요?
And, possible answers.
Over there.
저기예요.
Right here.
여기예요.
Remember.
And, it's on the right.
Right.
오른쪽에 있어요.
It's on the left.
왼쪽에 있어요.
And, it's next to the exit.
Next to.
The exit next to.
옆에.
옆에 있어요.
And, it's in front of the exit.
The exit in front of.
앞에 있어요.
있어요.
Okay.
I know today's lesson was a little hard to understand.
But, please just try to practice every expressions in Korean.
And, make yours.
Okay.
Next time, I will come back with at the supermarket.
You did a really good job today.
Thank you and bye.
안녕히 계세요.
