Thank you for being here today.
Today we're covering nail knots or the constrictor knot.
They're the same thing,
but they're very useful to tie on knocking points,
peep sides, clickers, et cetera, et cetera.
Welcome to a new series titled To The Point,
because I'm helping you become a better archer
by getting to the point.
The nail knot, aka the constrictor knot,
was originally used in fly fishing,
but archery has adopted it as its primary knot
for tying on many different archery accessories.
This is absolutely the one knot
out of all the knots in archery
that you should know and memorize.
Now, if you've ever used overhand knots,
tying back and forth, back and forth,
and then putting some glue on it,
and then heating it up to try to keep
your knocking points in place,
well, this is a better way to replace that method,
because this better way, there's two benefits to it.
One, it's never gonna come unraveled.
Sometimes that glue can come unraveled,
and that overhand knot can come unraveled,
and that's a no-go.
The second thing that's better about the nail knot
is it gives you adjustability.
So after the knot is there,
you don't have to snug it down all the way,
and you can adjust your knocking point slightly
until you have it just right.
Now this is how you tie the nail knot.
All you need is a 10 to 12 inch piece of serving,
and then with that, I like to rub it against a glue stick.
This will stiffen it up a little bit
and make it a little easier to tie the nail knot.
This step is not a necessity, but it does help.
The other optional part of this knot
is using a nail or a pencil or something
to aid you in tying the knot.
It can be done both ways.
First, when you're not gonna use it, this is how you do it.
Bring your tag end out to the left.
Then wrap the serving over top of the tag end
four to eight times.
After that, you're going to loosen up
all the loops you just wrapped
and shove the second tag end all the way back through
so that each tag end is crisscrossing
underneath the serving.
Pull these two ends tight, cut the ends, and burn them.
Now, the second method is to use a nail,
or I like to use a pencil to aid me.
With this method, I'll put the tag end
in line with the bowstring.
I'll wrap over the pencil and the bowstring
four to eight times.
At this point, the pencil created a gap
that I can shove the other tag end back through the serving.
Now, with the tag ends crisscrossing underneath the serving,
you can pull the pencil out and then snug up the knot.
Cut the extra serving material and burn off the tag ends.
Now, you can leave that serving material
out about 3 1⁄4 of an inch,
and this will allow you to adjust it
so as you're tuning your bow,
you can make slight adjustments to your knocking point
until you get it just where you want it,
and then you can cinch it down.
And that's how you tie a nail knot.
I hope that was to the point enough for you guys.
And someone else who went right to the point
was Bobby Harrison.
He said, I bought the shooting tab a few months ago.
All I can say, it's money well spent.
If you don't have one, do yourself a favor and order two.
I'm ordering a second one as a backup soon.
Thank you, Bobby Harrison,
for leaving that review on the website.
And for those of you who don't know,
I have a company, Shatterproof Archery,
we sell bowstrings and archery accessories
such as arm guards, quivers, tabs.
So if you need anything, go to shatterproofarchery.com.
Thank you so much for sticking with me today.
Stay shatterproof, and I'll see you guys on the next video.
