Cherry Blossom in Tokyo 2021 - Sakura Viewing Tour (4K)
Hey guys, welcome back.
Today we're out in the city to check out a few popular places for viewing sakura in Tokyo.
Yeah, so right now we're in Shinjuku Gyoen, one of the most popular spots in the center of the city.
And as you can see behind us, these beautiful trees full bloom.
And we're right in the middle of the sakura season right now.
So actually the sakura season this year came a bit early.
So the bloom may be inconsistent from spot to spot.
True, yeah.
So we're going to hit a few popular sakura spots now and see what we can find.
So it probably looks like there's a quite a lot of people out today.
And well, there definitely is, but not as much as an average year when you come to Shinjuku Gyoen.
You can see behind me, there are people, you know, looking at the flowers and doing photo
shoots and that kind of thing.
But usually it's a lot more dense, especially over here on the grass.
Now that is some pure sakura action.
Yeah, that view man, it's great.
So this Inokashira Park is especially popular for this beautiful lake.
Yeah, yeah.
And, you know, you can see a bunch of pedal boats and swan boats.
But I guess the swan boats are a bit too romantic for too much man like us.
Yeah, maybe a little bit too much.
But yeah, I brought my wife here actually last year on her birthday.
And yeah, we pedaled all the way down to the end of the lake there.
But it was Koyo season, so the autumn leaves.
Sounds fun.
Yeah, but this looks a lot different, right?
It's a different mood in the spring.
Yeah, I mean, you know, it's a country of four seasons.
Yeah guys, so as beautiful as the sakura season is in Japan,
it doesn't last very long, right Yasu?
Yeah, it's usually about a week.
But this time I heard that, I just saw the weather forecast yesterday.
Right.
And it's expected to rain by this weekend.
I see.
So it will probably last less than a week.
Yeah, that's a shame, right?
Rain will come, wash all the petals away and then it's over for another year.
But you know, that's why it's good to make the most of it, right?
Exactly.
And I think that's the part of the beauty of sakura.
You know, it's really short-lived.
That's it, yeah.
So yeah, we're just here with our cool drinks.
Beautiful blue sky.
Checking out some sakura.
Enjoy while we can.
So I guess this is my first hanami in the last few years.
Yeah, same for me.
I mean, last year it was impossible, right?
Yeah, it was kind of a bust, wasn't it, last year?
We had the lockdown and you know, no one could just go outside.
True.
I'm quite surprised how many people are out today though, right?
Yeah, but compared to the regular years, I think it's still much fewer, right?
Yeah, I mean, usually here it's like you can't move.
Like this road here, it's like a festival, it's packed.
Right, right.
This year they've got these like security guards kind of ushering people around.
I think they're usually here every year,
but this time they're telling people to like stay away, you know, keep moving basically.
Right.
It sounds more serious in a way.
Yeah, yeah.
So
after missing out on a proper sakura experience last year,
it was good to be able to get out and also see everyone else enjoying themselves
and remaining safe in the process.
