Hey everyone, welcome back to my channel.
Today's video is part two of this extreme room makeover
and this is where we're gonna be painting,
decorating, installing, and you'll see
the big reveal right at the end.
So make sure you guys watch right to the end
to see my parents' reaction to their new space.
So for those of you that didn't catch part one
of this room makeover series,
this is another bedroom in my parents' house
and this room is specifically used
for when my nephews come over and stay.
They both sleep in this room.
One is three and one is six.
So I really wanted to make this room a space
that is very kid-friendly,
because it's made for them,
but I also wanna make this room look like
it suits my parents' house
and it's not just like a kid's room
in the middle of grandma's house.
So that does make for a pretty big challenge,
but I think I've figured it out
and we've come up with a really good plan for this room.
I'm kind of going for a really neutral,
earthy, minimal look in this room
and it's gonna be kind of like outdoorsy theme
for the boys, but I think it will also just suit
an adult space as well.
So hopefully this room turns out perfectly
for my little nephews as well as my parents.
So for those of you that don't know,
the transformation on this room
has been done kind of gradually.
So first we refinished the dresser.
I wanted to keep that old furniture,
but just make it look new again,
a little more age appropriate
and just a little more modern looking.
And then after I saw that completely done,
I just knew we had to go for it
and just do this entire space.
Today is painting day, day one.
Let's get rid of these light yellow walls this time.
But we're gonna be using two different colors
for this space.
Majority of the walls are gonna be Swiss coffee,
so a nice warm white color.
And then we're gonna be doing an accent wall
with this lightest shade of sage green.
It's called jungle camouflage.
So I'm really excited.
This is gonna look so nice, so good with the furniture.
It's really gonna give an adult look,
but also a kid's look and I think it's perfect.
So if you guys are excited to see this transformation,
make sure you guys give this video
a big thumbs up right now
and let's crack open the paint and get started.
Okay, wow, these walls look incredible.
I am loving the color.
It's day two now, so the paint is finally dried
and I did all the taping, took all that off,
cleaned up all the edges and this is what we're left with
and it's so, so good.
I love the finish in here.
We used a matte paint this time
and it really has like a velvety, soft look to it
and I'm really loving it.
So I think that's my new thing.
Matte paint is a lot prettier in my opinion.
But anyways, for day two,
we're gonna be bringing in
a lot of the main furniture pieces.
We're gonna be building a lot of furniture
because I got some stuff from Ikea again
and yeah, hopefully decorating,
but I really think that's gonna turn into
like a day three process
because I don't know how long it takes to build a bed.
So we'll see how this all turns out.
We have three different areas going on in this space.
We have the dresser area,
which is gonna be this accent wall.
We're gonna dress that up really nicely.
We're gonna have a little play corner over here
with books and little play tables and stools
and just like child-sized things,
which I'm really excited about
because that's gonna make this room
look a lot more kid-friendly.
And then this whole bed area across from the accent wall.
So again, if you guys missed it,
we're gonna be using a trundle bed system,
which I'm so excited about.
I found such a simple white trundle bed from Ikea.
And a trundle bed is a great solution for rooms like this
where you want space to play,
but you also need to sleep two people.
So it's kind of like a little miniature bunk bed situation
where a bed rolls out underneath the other twin bed
and you can just push it back in
to get the space back in the room.
So I really love furniture pieces
that are designed well like that.
They have storage in it.
Like it's just an all-in-one perfect piece
for this little kid's bedroom.
Now that we're on the same page here,
let's go ahead and start bringing in some pieces.
So the first thing I'm gonna bring into this space
is a brand new rug I found at HomeSense.
And this is it right here.
This is totally not the style
that I thought I was gonna go after.
Here's a rug that I actually had my eye on for a while,
but this one right here was so much softer.
It kind of looked like twigs or grass.
It had that sage color in it.
It also had the white
and I thought it was perfect for this space.
Once I rolled it out in the actual room,
I could see the colors coming together.
It really worked with this kind of outdoorsy theme
and it was absolutely perfect.
It also fit really well as well.
It has this really cool sheen to it
where you look on one side and it looks gray
and the other side kind of looks green.
So I really liked the effect of that.
But once I saw it all together in this space,
it really helped pull together the entire design.
So this space has this kind of wonky corner situation
going on over here
and I really didn't want this area of the room
to go to waste.
So I thought a great shelving unit would be perfect
over here to put toys and books.
I ended up finding this one at the thrift store for 12.99,
which is a total steal.
I love that it was rattan
and it fit perfectly in the corner,
but it was scuffed up and dirty.
So I just cleaned it off with some cleaning wipes
and added some more black paint on there
to really make it look fresh and new again.
And you would never be able to tell
that it's a thrifted piece for 12.99.
So it worked perfectly in this space.
It really helped highlight that corner
and it added so much more storage.
Because this shelving unit was so light,
I had to mount it to the wall using gorilla mounting tape,
which is super strong.
It holds, I think like 50 pounds,
but I've used it in the past
and it's always worked perfectly.
So I just tied down the back and the legs
so that it doesn't wobble
and it won't come crashing down on the kids.
So when that was all fastened,
it didn't shake at all
and it's super strong and sturdy to the wall.
Now moving on to adding some kid-sized furniture
in this space.
I'm so excited to have things their size in here,
but this is a really easy and affordable hack
to get kid-sized things for less.
I got three stools from Ikea,
not from the kids section
and this $10 coffee table from Ikea as well,
also not in the kids section.
So when you flip it over and everything's put together,
it looks like it's a perfect size for little children.
Then it was time to start bringing in the pieces
to build the Ikea trundle bed.
And I've built Ikea furniture before,
but I've never seen this many parts.
I was getting very overwhelmed,
but just trying to keep myself calm
and follow the instructions.
Well, the instruction said to use two people.
So my first mistake was trying to do this on my own.
Look at me using a stool as a second person, as a helper.
It really worked, but you shouldn't have to do this.
So this took me forever.
You'll notice in these shots,
the sun is still out.
As the shots go on, it gets darker and darker.
My entire day went by and I was still building this bed.
So this whole bed frame part was super simple.
That went by really quickly,
but the trundle situation with the rollout parts
and the tracks and the drawers was so complicated,
had so many screws.
I ended up finishing it and doing it,
but like, look at all this.
So much organization goes into this.
I definitely recommend maybe like hiring someone to do this
or at least have a partner or a buddy.
I don't know why I tried to do this by myself,
but it was a huge, huge task.
By the time I finished, it was so late.
I just had to go to bed.
All right, guys, it's day three of this makeover.
And hopefully today we can start bringing in decor pieces,
really figuring out the layout in here
and start putting things on the wall
and just really bringing this whole room together.
I'm so excited.
It's already looking incredible.
Like, okay, the background,
what you're seeing right now does not look incredible,
but what I'm looking at looks pretty good so far.
I spent the entire day yesterday building that Ikea bed.
Like, I definitely do not recommend
building an Ikea bed by yourself.
You should have a second person.
That would probably make it go by quicker,
but I didn't ask anybody
because I want this room to be a surprise.
So it's definitely a lot of work.
It took me like, I don't know,
it's really embarrassing to say,
but probably like 10 hours.
Like that is so bad, but now my hands hurt.
My body feels like I got hit by a bus
and it's like, that's ridiculous.
I shouldn't have done that by myself, but I did it.
And that's pretty incredible too.
So anyways, that was an entire day yesterday,
but now we've got the bed, got the trundle bed situation,
and it's really cool.
Really cool system, really good use of space.
It allows this room to occupy one person or two people.
So that's really cool.
Yeah, anyways, I'm over the bed.
We need to move on from that.
Let's move on and start bringing more things in.
So I'm just starting out
by moving this nightstand out of the room,
just to create more space on that side of the wall there.
I'm probably going to be putting it in the closet
later on for extra storage,
but it won't be used as a typical nightstand in here.
Okay, so I just moved this little table and stool area
over onto this wall.
There's way more space for it over there.
I initially had it in this corner with the bookshelf
and it was just getting in the way of pulling out the bed.
So I think this is the perfect spot for it.
There's room for three
because I have two nephews and a niece.
So we can't leave her out.
We put three stools in here.
I did want to hang something above this table
so that it kind of grounds the space.
It makes it kind of like a coloring learning zone.
So I'm going to be using this rod
and bucket system from Ikea.
It's called Fintorp.
It comes with these three buckets here
and little hooks to hang them.
And I thought it'd be really cute,
kind of like pencil, crayon,
crayon storage above the table.
And that way all three kids can reach it.
Everything's put away
and it kind of adds like a little special touch to the wall.
How cute is this?
I love the way this looks
hanging right over top of their little kid-sized table.
It's a perfect spot to put all their supplies
and you don't need like a whole furniture piece
to store things.
You use the wall as storage and decor.
And I think it's going to look really cute
when it's all filled up.
I'm going to be hanging this round wall hanging
that I made a few videos ago.
It's a little DIY project that I did.
Super simple.
If you guys want to know how to make one of these,
I'll link the video to that down below.
I'm going to hang it
where that little piece of green tape is.
And I think it's really going to soften that whole space,
add some fabric and texture over there
on all of these hard surfaces.
Now back to this little corner over here.
I really want to make this a cozy play space.
So I added a really soft rug on the floor,
a Cars and Truck little toy basket,
and this nice little footstool
that you can use as low seating.
The whole thing is just very soft and cozy
and it has all the storage to fit all their toys.
Now moving on to on top of the dresser over here,
we're going to add some lighting,
some art and some greenery
and really help balance out this whole wall.
So now we're going to start focusing
on this whole bedding and window area over here.
These are the curtains I picked.
These are blackout curtains from Ikea.
I picked blackout because the boys wake up
when they see the sunlight.
So this would hopefully make them sleep a little longer.
They're just like a really neutral kind of beige-y color,
but also kind of have a green tone to them.
So I think they're going to look really nice.
All right, so I'm back from Michael's
and I have everything I need
to do a little hanging pendant light above this bed.
It's going to look so cute.
I picked the white cord,
so it will kind of blend into the wall.
I'm going to run it up the corner, I think.
Comes with everything you need,
the little hooks and everything to hang the light.
And then I chose this lampshade
because I thought it looked a little more masculine.
I also had the option of doing this little macrame pendant,
which I love, but I feel like might look a little too girly.
So I'll leave that for a different project,
but I definitely think this is going to look really,
really cute hanging in this corner.
It's going to give a visual effect,
but also give the lighting we need on top of the bed.
And one of the last things we have to do
before bringing in all the toys
and really adding the finishing touches is make this bed.
So I really want to make it layered and cozy
and really earthy looking,
and just add a lot of texture in there.
So I have a twin quilted blanket.
That's going to be the main comforter.
I also found this beautiful throw blanket from HomeSense.
It has that really nice sage color in it,
and it has knit on one side
and a really fuzzy, cozy texture on the other.
I also have this kind of faux mud cloth pattern pillow,
which is very earthy looking as well.
I'm just loving all these patterns and textures together,
as well as a faux fur blanket.
I feel like that adds a really outdoorsy
and earthy feel to it,
as well as really cute kids' twin sheet sets.
So I have this one here that's going to be used
for the main bed.
It's really cute looking.
It says, you are loved, and little one.
It has these cute little wreaths on it.
I feel like it looks very earthy,
very natural looking, super sweet.
And then this one is for the bed that rolls out underneath.
My youngest nephew is obsessed with trains,
so he's going to be so excited to see this.
I feel like this is really going to make it feel
like his own bed.
So I'm really excited to put all this on.
It's going to look so cozy in this nice little corner.
Now it's time to bring in all the decor pieces,
all the toys, and really finish off this space.
All right, guys, I am completely done this space now,
and I can't believe how good it looks.
This is by far one of my favorite makeovers I've ever done.
I love the use of space in here.
Everything works so well.
It's such an amazing mix of a kid's space
and an adult space.
It's just the perfect room at grandma's house.
So I cannot wait for you guys to see my mom's reaction.
I don't think she realizes how dramatic this makeover is,
so it's going to be pretty exciting.
So in the morning, we'll show my mom her brand new room.
Okay, we're finally here for reveal day.
Are you so excited?
I am really excited.
I've been looking forward to this for years.
I think Kristen worked the hardest on this one, right?
Because I could hear a whole lot of hammering
and different things going on in the house.
It wasn't even going to be this big project.
It started out being a dresser makeover,
and it's spiraled out of control into a whole room makeover,
and now it's probably one of my favorite makeovers
because it's so special.
The idea was to have a room for grandkids to come,
and also a room for them to play,
and to fit into a beautiful decor,
and they're going to be really thrilled when they see it.
I know, it's so fun.
This is just feels like Christmas all the time, isn't it?
You know, like going and ding?
I know, I love it.
Come on in.
Oh, I love it.
Here we go.
Look how cute.
That together?
Yeah.
Oh, look at this!
Oh, that's so cute!
Look, a little kid's drawing area.
Oh, I love this.
Look at these things.
This is a great place for this.
I know, it works perfectly.
It does work perfectly.
How sweet is that?
And another animal, that's wonderful.
I love this color.
Isn't it stunning?
Oh my goodness, and the books and the trains.
Isn't that so cute?
And they can reach it.
Oh, and the toys fit in there too.
Yeah, everything they own got in here.
So this is a nice little play area.
I can't believe the dresser.
I know, right? It's completely different
and it looks stunning in here now.
I can't believe...
I mean, you've taken this and matched it with that too.
Yeah.
And this blends with this.
And the bed is unbelievable.
And you like the light?
Oh, I didn't even notice the light.
Okay, yes.
He's got a little light over there.
This is a really nice spare room too.
Look at the curtains.
Yeah.
Unbelievable how you can pick up that tone here.
They've got a lot of room to play here.
A ton of room.
This could be their playroom now.
I'm so glad about that.
I know.
Look at this.
Isn't that sweet?
I can't believe you found this color everywhere.
I know.
Again, you've taken everything
and done it in a beautiful match.
Not even a match.
It's just complimentary.
Like, I don't know.
I have no creativity in these.
Aren't they going to feel so special in here?
Yes.
They're going to feel very special.
Wow.
This is a nice room.
I love it.
And here is the second bed.
Oh my God.
Look at how it fits.
That is lovely.
Can you believe that two beds now fit in here
still enough room to play?
Look how much room there is to play beside you.
These are comfortable too.
It fits perfect.
The room was meant for it, right?
You never would have thought two twins would fit in here.
I think they're going to love it.
It's like a little sleepover all the time.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
You did a great job.
I can't get over the color.
The color is my favorite.
Don't you think it was such a good idea?
It's a very warm, comfortable color.
Every time you do a room, you think,
oh my goodness, how do you put it together?
So that it all fits, but then you do.
Can you even believe what it used to look like?
Wow.
So now I've got a room
for two grandkids,
another bed in the other room
for my third grandkids.
Also for guests.
Now you're a super grandma with all of this.
These are definitely adults can sleep on these too.
Well done.
Thank you.
Love you.
Should we show dad?
He has no idea again about the plan in here.
This is always just me and my mom
figuring this stuff out.
He ends up liking it in the end.
I came up with that I wanted it
to have two kids that can sleep in it.
That's pretty much it.
I get working at it and then my dad's super surprised.
Let's go show my dad.
Oh wow.
When do I move in?
This is really nice.
Look at that little drawing center.
Isn't that so sweet?
That's fantastic.
I can just see myself sitting here
and teaching them.
Let's pick a pencil.
These are all coloring books.
Star Wars, Mickey Mouse,
Thomas, excellent.
There's three stools for them.
That's great.
Little play area.
Isn't the color beautiful?
Tremendous.
The dresser, you would never recognize it.
Great job.
Difficult to do and choosing the right
color and combination
really sets it off with these
walls. That's fantastic.
Since we didn't have room for a nightstand
we have his reading light
up on the ceiling.
When your mother's mad at me
I can move in here.
That's really
nice.
Look at how these
carpets all fit so we don't have to get rid of
the grey carpet. All three of them can play
in here too.
That keeps my room my room.
This will be Robert's bed.
Watch this.
Come over here. There's storage built
into this bed.
Here's Thomas' bed.
Look at that.
Do you believe that?
This will be Charlie's bed with the trains.
He's going to love that.
That's fantastic.
What a terrific job.
They'll be very happy in here.
I would.
Let's see how much this blocks.
It fully blocks it.
That's great. Thank you so much.
You're welcome.
She added everything to our house.
Have you done every upstairs room now?
