Hey folks, welcome to the channel and another Truck King news update. Today General Motors
has shared information on the third variant to be built on the Ultium pickup truck platform.
First we had that new GMC Hummer, then the Chevy Silverado EV, and now we get to see this truck,
the all-new GMC Sierra EV. Although the overall shape is recognizable, GMC says that the majority
of the sheet metal on this Sierra is unique to the Silverado and the Hummer. So just from a
styling perspective, this truck definitely looks uniquely GMC and I think it looks pretty sharp.
Why don't you let me know what you think of the styling in the comments below. Now let's get into
some of the numbers and if you're familiar with the Silverado EV, you've heard some of these
before. So GMC says that the Sierra EV will have a 400 mile range on a full charge and it will
offer up to 754 horsepower and 785 pound feet of torque when the truck is in max power mode. Now
that makes the Sierra EV good for a zero to 60 time of just four and a half seconds. I want to
give you a little more info on max power mode because GMC actually gave us more details. So in
the Hummer you have something called watts to freedom. Now that allows the Hummer to dash from
zero to 60 and get crazy acceleration but that will only work for a short period of time. Here in
the Sierra EV when you hit max power mode it's going to give you that full 754 horsepower and
you can leave it in that mode for as long as you want. So it's a little bit different. It's not just
about sort of really quick acceleration over short bursts. This is about having max power available
for as long as you want. There's a few other drive systems here which definitely make this
truck unique although you will also find them on the Silverado EV and on the Hummer. First of all
air suspension all the way around that can lift the truck and lower it by up to two inches and
then you do have four wheel steering. Now four wheel steering when you're in a tight spot will allow
the truck to turn even tighter because the rear wheels will turn in the opposite direction as the
front wheels. But this truck also has crab walk mode. Now in crab walk at slow speeds the wheels
will turn in the same direction and allow the truck to move diagonally. I should mention at
this point that the truck we're looking at today is the GMC Sierra EV edition one. So this is a
special edition fit with all of the features. In the future we're going to be getting more Sierra
EV models that have different payload ratings, different towing ratings and are more accessible.
But today we're really only talking about this top of the line model and now now that you know that
let me hit you with these numbers. Maximum towing on this truck is 9,500 pounds while maximum payload
is 1,300 pounds. So again you have to assume that those numbers are going to be on the low end and
once we start getting more of the basic Sierra EVs that the payload and the towing is going to climb
from there. There's some cool utility features here once again that were introduced on that
Silverado EV. First up is what GMC calls the Multi Pro Mid Gate. This is a gate right behind
your rear seats. Now when you open it up it allows you to extend your pickup truck bed.
When the gate is closed and the tailgate is closed this is a 5 foot 11 bed. When you open up the mid
gate and leave the tailgate closed you get up to nine feet of space and then with the tailgate
open and the mid gate open you get around 11 feet of cargo space. Which again for specific things
like surfing that is a really great feature. Plus the rear seats are in a 60 40 split configuration
so you can only have one half of the mid gate down while the other seats are still up. Another
uniquely EV feature is a front trunk. Now of course up until now we've been calling it a frunk
but GMC has a new marketing term for us they're calling it the e-trunk. I don't know exactly why
it's not really an electric trunk is it it's just a trunk in the front but anyways GMC is going with
e-trunk. Now this thing has a ton of space it has a totally flat floor plus it has a bank of plugs
so you can access power and while we're talking about that I might as well tell you that this GMC
can off-board quite a bit of power 10.2 kilowatts of AC power and there are 10 different plugs
located around the vehicle. Plus you can get a 240 volt plug and using that you can actually
charge other EVs. So GMC sort of went out of their way to tell us that this Sierra EV can save
other EVs if they're stranded on the side of the road. Well assuming you have enough charge in the
Since I touched on charging let's talk about the Sierra EV. So GM's big claim is that you can get
100 miles of range back in just 10 minutes of charging but that has to be DC fast charging
at up to 350 kilowatts. Still if you can get to one of those stations getting back 100 miles in
10 minutes is pretty decent but the other thing I have to caution you about is that is only going
to be between 20% and 80% of your battery. That first 10% and the last 10% always takes longer to
charge. Now we can take a look inside and remember this is a Sierra Edition One Denali EV so it's
fully loaded all the features all of the luxury and one of the things I noticed right away is it
is not the same layout as you get in the Silver Auto EV. In fact this thing uses a portrait
oriented center touch screen while the Silver Auto is landscape. So how big are those screens?
Well in the center stack right there it's a 16.8 touch screen there's an 11 inch driver info
cluster right in front of you and then there's also a head-up display. Let me touch on some of
the other neat features inside. First of all you have hands-free start in this truck so you simply
jump in put your foot on the brake shift it and away you go there's no key turn there's no button
to push and there's also a whole array of driving modes. I know I mentioned max power mode but in
addition you're going to have a standard drive mode tow haul an off-road mode and then a my mode
which is totally customizable for however you like the truck to drive. GM's hands-free super
cruise is also going to be standard on this edition one model and yes it does have trailering capability
so you can tow a trailer totally hands-free. Finally let me tell you about a couple of the
materials used on this interior things like grain matched open pour wood aluminum etched stainless
steel speaker covers and then that fully glass roof. There's some beautiful materials in here
and it's a nice looking interior but it better be for the price tag. In the United States this truck
is going to sell for $107,000. Now the Sierra EV edition one is going to hit the road in early 2024
in the U.S. and sadly Canadians need not apply because GM actually said that in Canada we're
expected to get the Sierra EV in 2025. So it's going to hit the road in the states first and
then come to Canada the year after. Now don't worry they're not all going to be crazy
expensive the other thing GM said is that eventually the Sierra EV will have a starting price
of $50,000 which is right there in the heart of the market but that's still not going to be for
one two maybe even three years so we have some time to go before we sort of see the full lineup
realized of the Sierra EV but it is good to know that it's not just super fancy expensive trucks
there's also going to be some more base affordable trucks that people like you and me can actually
buy. Now I think the Sierra EV here looks good but of course I'm excited to see the more affordable
models. It's cool to see all the technology there's no doubt that this is a capable super quick
electric pickup truck but because the price tag is so high it's just limiting to how many people
can actually buy it so you know what let's appreciate what it is today but stay tuned
because as soon as we have more information on those more affordable versions we will bring those
to you and now of course I need to hear your opinion so go below into the comments let me
know what you think of this new GMC Sierra EV. As always while you're down there don't forget to hit
