Argentina vs. Australia, Highlights World Cup 2022, Match #2 Round of 16

Yep, Scaloni is rolling out. Almost identical line-up. What we saw against Poland is they think it's going to have similar qualities. And then for Australia, also one change. Questions around the fitness of the squad with Bakas coming in for Goodwin who is fatigued. See what's showing for it on the ball now. Lionel Messi. 1000th game. Had all his club matches and his national team appearances. Papu Gomez. That's one best forgotten. What does he have in store for Australia? In by Messi. Plenty of staunch rear-guard action from the Socceroos up to this point. Messi's pass. And he gets it back. Lionel Messi! Lionel Messi reaches out for perfection. Grabs it. Argentina hit the front. Magic from Messi. An eclipse at how quickly things can change for Argentina. You're saying they're playing at a slow tempo and then they just spring to life. Messi continues his run and just gets that quick little layoff. Trying to take a pick at who it is. But Messi then tails it into the far corner. It's McAllister finds a penetrating pass. And then you let Messi have that one. You back off. You give him the space, the time. And he's going to just tail this one into the far corner underneath the outstretched Sutar. And clearly out of reach of Matty Ryan as this one just glides right by. Shades of his goal. Figo de Paul who had started that. And Irvine couldn't quite clear it. Messi. Slithering shot though. And careful here as Martinez hooks it away. Duke was almost onto something. And he has to be careful here. He's got himself into a real pickle. Julian Alvarez has had it to the Argentinian advantage. Australia with egg on their face. Ryan with a big blunder. Press from Argentina out to end. But they're extending the press. It looks like it's de Paul. He's the one that forces this air from Matty Ryan. And a long touch. And Julian Alvarez gambles with him. He comes now on the weak side. And Matty Ryan's trying to split two Argentinians right in front of his goal now. And Julian Alvarez says thank you very much. Long run by Bage. This is better. And it took a deflection. That has gone in. One goal can truly change everything. He gave it a lash. Craig Goodwin. And it's a hopeful cross. But it's not a good clearance. And that clearance lands at the feet of Craig Goodwin who had the opening goal for Australia against France. And he gets the help of a deflection off of Enzo Fernandez I believe it is. Who's just trying to make a play on it. Stepping out. Turns his back to it. Terrific determination. And who knows? Who knows here? How about this? And the marauding run. Just slicing and weaving through the Argentinian defenders. Giving it a real push. Australia here. Wouldn't quite fall for Karadzic. Bustic who can strike from there. Likes to get it onto his left foot. From Graham Arnold. But Australia have Messi. And his brilliance to contend with. Lionel Messi. What's he going to do from here? Oh. Messi scampering after it. Goodwin with that delicate chip since it was there. And goal. And it's Martinez who makes the save. Trying to make a play on it. Martinez comes off big out of his line. And covers that one up. Argentina go marching on to the quarterfinals at the meeting with the Netherlands.
