Hello my name is John and in this video I'm going to give you a few tips if you're planning to travel to the Baltic states
A few days ago I finished my trip through the Baltic states namely Estonia Latvia and Lithuania
And the truth is that they have been countries that have surprised me quite a bit because I didn't have high expectations about them
I was more curious about seeing what I would find than actually expecting something specific
And in the end I've found some really nice surprises I've really liked these countries
Then if you want to organize yourselves to travel to these countries I'm going to give you some tips on how to do it because it's very simple
The best way to get around in these countries is by car
In any of these countries you can rent a car and move freely between all three at the same time
And there's no problem at all but please return it to the same place where you took it from
Because otherwise they will charge you a lot of money
A common option that many people choose is to combine these three countries with Helsinki
Because there is a ferry that connects Helsinki with Tallinn in Estonia
Then since it's only two hours each way and quite cheap many people take the opportunity to visit the Finnish capital
Then there are many ways to make this trip some people fly to Vilnius the capital of Lithuania
And from there it goes up to Helsinki and from there it flies back
Then if you rent a car and do it from Vilnius take a tour through these three countries
Return it to Vilna and then move on to Tallinn as you see fit
then what does what many people do Visit only the capitals
Fly to Vilnius visit Vilnius take a bus or train that will take you to Riga visit Riga and then go to Tallinn the same way
And once there take a ferry to Helsinki and then return
this is done by many people but of course you also miss out on quite a few places
If you want to rent a car to see the other countries the downside is that at some point you'll have to go back
Then I'm going to tell you how I did it in my case I found a very cheap flight to Helsinki and then I started the trip there
I was in Helsinki for a couple of days took the ferry to Tallinn and that's where I started my tour of the Baltic states
In Tallinn I stayed first for a day visiting the capital and the next day I rented a car to visit the area
Then I just rented a car to visit Estonia
I visited various places in Estonia I was in the main national park there which is located in the coastal area
Then I went down to the south to some small towns as well another national park called Soboma
If you want to visit some of the places I went to you have the videos there where I show you all that
Then I did that tour in Estonia and already returned to the Tallinn airport where I had rented the car
I returned it and from there I moved to Riga by bus I took a bus from the central station because Estonia
These countries are very small the advantage they have is that for example in Estonia the airport is 10 minutes away
Whether by taxi or tram it's very cheap I used Uber to move around Estonia
In Latvia and Lithuania there is no Uber but in Estonia there is and it's very cheap and since the distances are short there's no problem
You can go from your hotel to the airport to the city center and to the bus station with Uber
They will charge you 2-3 euros per trip which is very very cheap and the best option for getting around in my opinion
Then I rented a car with Abyss I rented all the cars with the Abyss
company because I have a loyalty program with them so it's cheaper for me
But anyway look at what your best option is in terms of economy or what they offer etc
Then when I got to Riga I rented another car it was the same again I rented a car at the airport
And with this car I visited both Latvia and Lithuania I visited these two countries I made a round trip
Visiting part of Latvia such as the national park that is there a very cool palace located in the south
Just across the border with Lithuania I crossed into Lithuania and went to Courland in Lisbon
It was my favorite place among all these countries then I went to Vilna and gradually returned to Riga
I took this trip over several days and returned the car at Riga Airport and then went back from Riga
I took a flight that already took me to another destination already outside the Baltic states
Then in this way I was able to organize myself so that I didn't waste much time in car hours
at they would not beneficial such as renting a car in Estonia
Take a full tour return it in Estonia go back to Riga things like that where you lose many hours
Because you have to turn the car around at the same starting point
The positive aspect is that there is no Uber in Estonia which benefits Latvia and Lithuania
It's an app called Bolt B-O-L-T It's an Uber-
like app that manages both taxis and private cars
And the operation is exactly the same You tell it where you want to go it gives
you a price estimate and it finds a driver for you
It shows where you are at all times it takes you there and it's very cheap
I used it in Latvia mainly for the airport it was about a half-hour ride from the center
And it was sold for 6-7 euros one of them cost me 2 euros I think
it was a mistake by the app but still they are very cheap prices
Then it's the best way to move around locally between the
city and the airport or within the city between specific points
I took a Bolt to get to the telecommunications tower
I wanted to visit in Riga because it was a long walk
Then with one of these I was there in 15 minutes and it was worth nothing
Then it's a great option for Bolt to help you move around those countries in a more localized way
After visiting as I said if you want to see my videos you will see everything I have visited
But anyway I suppose you'll mostly visit the capitals
I really liked all three capitals although I would especially remember Tallinn and Riga
Vilna is nice but there was really nothing much different from what another normal city offers you
It has a very beautiful but very small historic center
Riga is also a normal city but has a very beautiful medieval historic center
it doesn't remain much of what was old
But there are buildings from the 14th and 15th centuries that are also very medieval and it's very nice
That is it's a bigger nicer center a very cool atmosphere
Tallinn is a completely preserved medieval historic
town almost perfectly maintained and it's super beautiful
Then it's well worth visiting these three countries because it won't
take much time in four or five days you can visit at least the capitals
Then if you want to visit more parts of the other countries it will take more days
But for the capitals you can see one capital each day
If you want to do it in an extreme way in three days you could see it
I don't recommend it but if you have little time and want to optimize it then you'll have that option
But anyway I would dedicate at least a week to being in these three
countries calmly and enjoying the natural parts they have a lot of
Above all there are countries that don't have much foreign tourism so wherever you go there's hardly going to be anyone there
There will be many people in the historic centers
of Tallinn as it is very easily connected to Helsinki
But there are not so many foreigners in Vilna and not many
in Riga either and by the rest of the country practically none
In the Courland Isthmus which I'm telling you in Lithuania the most impressive was the Courland Isthmus
You rent a bike somewhere you ride it around you go through the forest across the dunes it's super beautiful
And there was practically no one
It was all for me alone and super enjoyable so much peace tranquility
Especially if you're looking for something that's almost nothing where
it's nature and tranquility you'll find it here
Their countries are also very affordable when it comes to eating with very
tasty local food at very good prices so they are perfect places to visit
Certainly the most expensive capital among these is Tallinn so I'
ll mention the fact that it is connected so quickly with Helsinki
Many people in Finland come to Tallinn to buy something cheaper to
this kind of things so they take full advantage of that connection
That has made Tallinn so much more in demand that prices have gone up
Then hotels in Tallinn are much more expensive than in the rest
of Estonia one hand and more expensive than in Latvia or Lithuania
I stayed at a super cool hotel in Lithuania that was a 4 or 5 star luxury hotel
It cost me practically the same as a super normal hotel in Tallinn just to give you an idea
Then don't let Tallinn scare you with its prices because it
in no way matches the prices of the other Baltic republics
So nothing you won't have any problems they are super safe countries the
capitals are extremely safe you can walk around at night without any problems
So don't have any fear about that the roads are very easy to drive on
ere are quite a few bumpy areas but they are in good condition
they are very scenic roads the kind where you go through forests in the middle
With one lane only in each direction etc
Then it's really cool to be here for a few days get lost and that's it
and have them wrap around you
So nothing else I don't want to go into too much detail any questions you may have about these countries
For now let me know ask me on
Instagram through comments or anywhere else and I'll be happy to help you
Thank you very much for getting this far see
you next time Goodbye
