One month in my garden. March 2020 was windy, wet, and sometimes cold. I have taken cuttings of blueberries, planted potatoes, and onions and continued to fertilize with horse manure. In addition, I have had a visit by the gardener MaryAnn Fargo who helped me crop apple trees.

My friend what weather
It's actually dangerous here now
Things are starting to blow around in the garden Look
Oh oh
I'm not sure they've been here all along
We're going out And this is the raider
The thick skin I've tried to keep out of this
She takes the first opportunity to slip in
It's uncomfortable when it's so windy
We need to put a stone in front of the exhaust pipe so it doesn't blow up
The most unpleasant thing I think is the wind coming back
And I still have memory images from Storm Gudrun
The trees only snapped here in the forest
The sound that roaring sound when only a distant wind is heard so incredibly far away
Then it just howls and pounds against the whole house It's absolutely terrifying
What a customer
These are the kinds of stakes that have been used for pine trees or other forest plantings that I have received
They are large and perfect for driving stakes into berry bushes
Additionally a major advantage is that they fit perfectly into many of these greenhouses that are designed for small mini-greenhouses
For some reason I got a little feeling when I was in the car an hour ago
And I thought I would really like to take up this experiment with blueberry pickers
I was pretty much fed up with blueberry muffins three years ago
I had taken all these hundreds of blueberry cuttings to figure out how to root cuttings properly
I got between 30 and 40 plants from all the hundreds of cuttings I took
And gave away quite a few Some of them are standing by my potato patch
Then I got a little wink and thought I'd take a few more
But what I'm doing differently now is that I'm taking the seedlings much earlier in the spring
So that already in March and I plan to bring them in and put them on a heating mat indoors
Probably most of it will fail I already know that from the beginning
I can't help but feel that way I'll just delete that part from the list too
I'll do that
The best chance of success with blueberry cuttings is when using peat as the material in which the cuttings are placed
Field or rhododendron soil
It was Norrland I should probably write that down here right away
I can fit 20 of each type
I don't believe for a second that there will be 20 of each kind that end up getting mixed up
That would really surprise me
Then I just cut it as long as I can so I can push the needle almost all the way
so that it's just a small girl sticking out
But what I've learned about blueberry picking is that the best chance of success is
It's when you have blueberries in a very hot and very humid place
It takes a long time for the seedlings to develop roots
So one must have patience and be able to give up this place for a very long time
I'm home all day when I'm at home with the childre
So it's often the case that I clean inside do the breakfast do the laundry and the dishes
Such things prepare
Then just go out and I work the brain for 45 minutes and then back to the dishwasher again
Today I'm staying home all weekend with the kids
five days while Filip is away working in Stockholm
So it's naturally extra busy and a huge number of shuttles are running back and forth
Take them leave them night all the children and you know the whole thing
So those are the extra valuable times
I'll try to finish the project this weekend
that I need and can then check off the list
So now I'm going to go out and grab a small bed that's just outside the greenhouse
I have previously grown strawberries in this frame
It consists of some large second-hand or third
-hand sorting rules that I just put together
Now I'm going to clear some grass there and add horse manure
I'll grow something interesting here this summer I
think some kind of vegetable maybe cabbage this year
These huge worms that I found in the soil
are earthworms they are not compost worms
These worms are slower than the red compost
worms you may have seen in my worm composters
They also eat a lot and are very pleasant to have in the ground
Men they do not multiply as quickly and not as much mold does not form in the soil
And they are slower to eat and move around on the earth and so on
So it's simply a larger yield if you have these red compost worms
They will come with us now that I'm spreading manure
So welcome to the warmth
I'm completely red-faced right now
These are my friends Marianne Fargo hello
Sometimes I've seen you slip by in different places in my videos and on Instagram
I've just been in your tunnel and said hello
Oh now you're here and trimming my trees
Yes exactly
I took a green card last year for pruning fruit trees
So now I'm starting to do it a bit on commission and such
But I've been a bit cowardly about posting and so that I do it
You asked if I would come here to trim the tree and
then you would have been like this but I will do it now
So said Martin yes but you dare to cut off Sara but not to go out and anoint her
Why did you think you should cut down trees
I've worked quite a bit with trees in
my career but they are very big old trees
So those that are called protected trees
So I have been able to learn quite a lot in theory about how to prune trees
They don't really seem to have done it in practice
And now we're starting to plant an orchard
We have probably planted about 30 fruit trees or something like that
Then I thought well maybe it's good to know then
The first thing you said when you came here and
saw my trees you said have you considered mulching the trees
Tell me how have you been doing at
home We have put up
a silage For that we have gone around
We thought it was supposed to be
Compost is said to be the best
Fruit trees don't like it when it's too rich
They like and like
They engage in growing
and not simply producing fruit Like everyone else
Yes so one wants to establish fruit
trees very much in the beginning
but then it works Then they establish themselves quickly and well
They still won't put a lot of energy into
having fruit right at the beginning either
We have a lot of sand at home
Except at the very bottom of our orchard
There we discovered that we really have blue clay
Well just don't have too much change right on the stem
Because it's like especially the lawn that it suffocates
Well your trees are growing pretty well at least
I thought I'd try to tell a bit about what
I've been doing in the garden during March
I could hardly remember half of it And I've been a
bit bad at bringing the camera and documenting it too
Men in all fall är resultatet av det
nu när man ser hur trädgården ser ut
Maybe it's most obvious that I've had a huge
amount of horse poop I've been so happy about this
and I have also caught myself doing it as well
I think it's so fun to take a break
that I've put other things on hold a bit
For example I filled it with horse manure
in this new neighborhood I did last summer
Oh there are five beds with manure on the cardboard
and then there is a tarp and wood chips in between
Oh what I've really done is just
removed some quikroot that has
frozen in these beds
I've put on 20-30 cm of
horse manure
It's very good
Unfortunately I have a huge
population of moths that
live in the ashes and they have several nests there
They pick it up and pull
out a bunch of
stuff from this cover so that it spreads something terrible
But this year I have tried to reduce
the damage by putting on a cloth
I have filled the horse manure into the buckets
I have put horse manure into the tunnel greenhouses
I've put horse manure in the garden in the kitchen yard
and I'm also in the process of building up another one
In some areas one could say that
in the neighborhood where I will
be growing coal this year And in this very neighborhood I have
Actually four more traditionally raised beds
where there is also a moisture hose over the beds
It's just that I'm getting a bit tired of growing the
same way all the time and that 's
why I've done it this year
I already started last year covering the
entire area with grass clippings leaves and wool
Now I lay the woolen strings across facing the other
way so they become
more horizontal lines one could say
Here I will place a stake
on these so that eight plants fit in
each row and that makes a total of five rows
So it's fun to do something new
And here in this big bed
that I have covered with straw now
So strawberries grow and
what's it called now
Very scary
I have a beehive in the garden
So I'm a bit interested now in improving for the
pollinator as well by
putting out some perennials
I the garden beyond the
summer flowers that I hope to
be able to plant as well So this area over here
With this new neighborhood it's
going to be a small one it sounds
so cute to say but a cut flower
garden that is a flower cultivation
I have thought about this all year
Let's see if I can make it happen
All such projects tend to fail
Because I already feel that
I want to grow vegetables
Come on old man
Is it time
to go in Come on
I'm so eager to just try it
I happened to have an extra bag
I got the wrong type
and so I ended up with a different one
Who seems to be described as a delicacy potato Aura
and now I think I
really have
nothing to lose
I'm putting it in now in the
middle of March let's see
what happens I haven't grown
potatoes in my own garden
Other than in pots in recent
years I am so very hungry
to have potatoes because I have really missed them
So I just think I'll make it
as simple as possible and put
it down for he digs a small
hole and puts in the potato
Along the outer edge of the
bed towards the bicycle fence
I just place them a little in
a row so I know the approximate
distance is correct because it looks so ugly
I think
A huge distance in one place and
then a huge long
distance to the next
Oh now I think I'll try practicing this by keeping early
things that you don't want to
freeze away when you put them out
For example as potato seeds
that can be planted very
early so I make a deep
hole and put the potato in
That's because even if there was
frost in the upper layers of the
bed the risk of the frost penetrating
several decimeters is quite low
Then the potatoes can establish
themselves there and then the sprouts
will come up and hopefully it's a bit warmer
in the air then So we'll see
Aura is a variety that takes 10-12 weeks to
develop so it is not one
of the earliest varieties
I don't need that here
either because I have
early potatoes growing at another locatio
So this is like just a bonus and
then I'll grow something else
inside the potatoes towards the
cycles and exactly what it is
I'm not really sure yet
we'll see
It feels almost a bit silly to do things like this
you shouldn't absolutely do that
planting potatoes this early
it could just fail
It's still mild
which is great in my
pocket yes we'
re doing really well
Everyone is out and happy
the children are building and
It makes it safe
but you will come home for dinner
see you then
