It's looking beautiful. Wow, no major leaks. There's no leaking in that cabin. This one is
leaking a bit on the front, but it's not really a problem because there's nothing that can go wrong.
I put a tarp over the tools and stuff, so all good. Now I'm going to see if the...
I'm going to connect the solar panels again, see if the battery is still good.
Because I got AGM batteries and they're not supposed to be in the freezing weather.
But if they're fully charged it shouldn't be a problem. I have to say that the sun exposure is
not so bad. It's noon now and the sun is still pretty high I'd say. Probably sat there, so I
think I'll have about five hours of sun in the winter. And it's 29 November now, so we're three
weeks away from the shortest day of the year. And the panels get quite a bit of sun. The batteries
are full now. When I checked, they were 99% when I arrived here, so that's good. So let's see how
when I use my tools and everything. I think it's going to be fine this winter. Yeah, it's good to
see. So it's leaking quite a bit here. I'm not sure exactly where, but I think here because this beam
is rotten. It's probably there. Yeah, quite sure it's there. Anyway, it can't do much harm because the
spores should be replaced anyway. So there's no harm in like this wood can be rotten.
But these beams need to be protected.
At the moment I think like both houses are going to be individual houses. So both will have
a bathroom and the bathroom. So when I have guests, one or the other could stay here or there.
And this one is first priorities. I'm going to work on this first. And then I think on the first floor
it's going to be a bedroom, bathroom. No, bedroom and living room and a little kitchen. And then
here it's going to be the bathroom. And I'll make a septic tank over there, downhill. And then both
houses have connected sewers towards the septic tank. Plans might change, but that's my idea now.
So I'm clearing this out. There's a lot of like dust and grass and soil on the ground floor. So I
have to clear that out. I think I'm trying to win a bit more space in height because it's pretty low.
I cannot dig too deep because at some point the walls are going to be... I mean the walls are built
on the ground. So if I dig too deep next to the wall it could be damaging the structure. So I have
to be careful that I'm not digging underneath the walls because that's going to be a problem.
So these are the timbers for the windows. I have one, two, three, four, five,
six windows I believe. They're all very small. This is large so it's nice wood for the windows.
I'm going to start making the one in the small cabin. So what I want to do is fit the frame
somewhere here and I'm going to cut into the stones a little bit so it kind of sinks away
into the stones. Because I want to keep as much light coming in and if I just build it right here
I'm going to lose light you know. So that's also the reason why this is bigger than that.
Is that the light can shine through the room. Okay this is the ugliest table I've ever built.
But it's a workbench and it's temporary so it doesn't have to be beautiful. It works.
So the stones are quite loose. I wonder if it's better to first mortar it so it's all
more solid. Because now I'm beating out the mud which holds together the stones.
But the problem is I can't mortar right now because I can't grout it. That's what I mean
because it's too cold. It's freezing. Not right now. I think it's like two degrees in here but
during the night it's freezing so it's not able to properly dry.
And if you're grouting it and it's freezing it's just not good. That's nice.
Hello Martin. How are you?
You're staying in Pantelice. Would you like me to go one day?
Maybe help you a little bit by myself or with my partner or with my partner and one friend.
So we can go by in his car.
Hey Maxo. How are you? Yes you are very welcome here. I'm usually working during the days
because it's really cold in the night. So the sun sets behind the mountain at three. So I work
till four or five and then I go down because I sleep in the valley. You're welcome anytime man.
You and your friend. Whoever you want to bring. There's always something to do there. So
yeah let me know when you want to come. Hey guys. Welcome in my camper.
This is where I've been staying the last few weeks. I'm sleeping in the valley.
And these few weeks I'm preparing for winter. And the goal is to get as much materials and
supplies up at the house as possible. Because I don't know what winter is going to do.
There's already snow about 20 centimeters. But it's easy to get through with the car with snow
chains. Because it's the first snow. But you know during winter the snow will accumulate
quite high. Especially in the in the sections of the road where there's never sun coming.
It will get quite high. So it could be as late as April. Maybe early May before the entire road
is clear. So I don't want to wait that long with continuing with the renovations. So yeah that's
why I want to get all of the roof parts. Like the rafters. All of the wood. You know the battens.
The roof boards. Scaffolding. All these kind of materials I want to get up there.
Now I've been visiting some sawmills. There's a lot of sawmills here.
You know it's a forested area. So I visited a few sawmills. And the prices for wood are
actually quite good here. So if you buy it directly from the sawmill. So I've got the
for the roof. And they will deliver it at the house. Which is great. And I'm also talking
with them about the scaffolding. Because I've been thinking about how to do the scaffolding.
You know you could rent it at a company. You could buy older scaffolding. But I was thinking
I have to build a lot of things around the property. So I'm going to need a lot of wood.
So I might just buy wood for it. And build the scaffolding myself. I've been talking to the guys
at the sawmill. And they had a batch of wood. Which is just rests and leftover materials. And
all of this wood I can reuse for other things. Like for example the floor in the other cabin
needs to be replaced. I also wanted to show you the the plans for the roof. How it's going to
be built up. There's these five constructing beams. These are existing beams. Which are there
to carry the roof together with the walls. So you usually have one center beam. But because there's
five. The the rafters don't have to do it that much work. So they don't have to be that thick.
So there's about eight rafters. So basically first there's a rafter. Then there's the roof boards.
Then there's some space for insulation. Could be a rock wall. Could be something else.
Then a layer of wood to close it off. But it might not need that. I'm not sure about that.
And then a vapor barrier I think. Then a spacer. And then the battens for carrying the stones.
So that's roughly the plan. The good thing is
of having all these materials up there. Is that I'm flexible and independent on the season.
To really start working. Like even in February or early March. I could work on the window frames.
I could work on the walls. Mortaring the walls. You know there's so much
to do. And now I'm flexible to kick start a lot of jobs.
