Hey guess what? It's day 74. Today on this episode of tiny shiny homestead. In the
never-ending earth bag. We're going to be continuing the outer circle. Imagine that.
I feel like we don't need to say this anymore because that's all we're doing
for a long time. We keep saying we're gonna switch it up and then we don't so
I think we should just stop saying that we're gonna do something else and then
just surprise them when it's time to do something else. Okay. So just just
prepare yourselves for more earth bags. Eventually we'll be doing something else.
Eventually.
It's the last roll. Hopefully. What if we didn't order enough bags? I think we did.
We'll see. What if we didn't? We'll have to call them.
Somebody had an idea. Guys I have an idea and while the kids are getting dirt
ready we wanted to share this idea with you. Guys we're real tired of laying
earth bags for this project. We're very tired of this project in general. And the
plan was for this outer wall to go up five feet. Now what was the reasoning
behind that? We're worried about deer. Was that it? We're concerned about animals
jumping but we have never seen deer on our property since we put up our electric fence.
I don't know maybe if we have a delicious smorgasbord they'll make make
the jump. I think it's worth trying our idea. So instead we mentioned before that
we're gonna have openings on this outer circle that are around four foot tall
and they're about 30 inches wide. They're kind of like the ones we did on
the inside. Right. So the plan was to go ahead and put them in soon and
vertically. But I was thinking if we just switched it and put them
horizontal that would make our wall way shorter which would in turn let more
light in. Yeah that's kind of what we're worried about is the long shadows in the
winter. Anything over three or four feet is basically going to shade the entire
garden area anyway. Especially with this inner circle being so tall the east side
is getting a lot of shade. So I think what we're gonna do we're still up in
the air about it. We just decided we just talked about it. Yeah and it's not decided but to make
this project go a little faster we could put our openings in horizontally and have
our wall be much shorter. I mean I like it. Less work less bags get done faster let
more light in. I think the pros are outweighing the cons at this point. Unless
the deer come back with a vengeance. Now and we can build this in a way that we
can always add to it you know. Right or we could build it so that we could add
like a like a fence on top of it somehow or something. I don't know. Yeah there's lots of
options. I think we're just gonna explore this idea a little bit more. We're gonna
think about it a little bit. Yeah it's not decided. Maybe you should just let us know
what you think. Should this wall be a little bit shorter or not? Or should we
continue bags for many more months? Hmm it won't be that long. Feels like it. Okay that's my idea. So who knows? Do you know? Nope.
Welcome back to Book Club Thursday. My book picks this week are the Honest
History volume 1. We really like these because it's a fun way to learn what
really happened. There's a bunch of different ones available so make sure
you go check them out. We decided to cut it early. We're done. That's it. Yep. See you
tomorrow. Peace. Well we got another like 30-40 feet done. Yeah. Not pushing
ourselves too hard today. We're down one person. Well and we're doing doing so
many other things today we just we didn't have a lot of time to actually
work on that. Yeah. Late start again. But a little bit every day then you get
closer. So that's our our motto. Yeah. A little bit every day. Okay. Guys if you
haven't seen last week we put out our new video of our solar system build.
Yes. How exciting. Jonathan worked so hard on that. Finally got it out last week. So we
hope if you haven't seen it just check it out right here. Yeah. We hope you like
it. Yeah. We tried to make it as informational but also as not boring as
possible. Yeah. So when we first started our solar power build we were like
researching like crazy like we always do. And we couldn't find all the
information in one video and I feel like you created that. Well yeah. And I
mean you know we got a lot of our ideas from like Juan and Michelle from
beginning from this morning and they helped us piece that together and so
they had videos of the different pieces but their systems a little bit different
because it was in a bus. Mm-hmm. And and yeah there wasn't like a like a huge
overview of like everything all together in one spot. Right. Which I for me I'm
like a big picture person so like I need to see like all of it together and how
it works together. Yeah. Anyway. Maybe I'm weird. No. I'm really proud of you for
getting that done. Oh thanks. It's a really good video. Thanks. High five. You helped me. A little. Anyway. How many good times are we gonna say anyway? I don't know. We say it too many times.
What are you doing? Sniffing in the grass. Being real distracting. Oh you know what
we need from you guys? We need you to let us know if we should make this wall
shorter and put horizontal frames in or keep them vertical. Yeah. Because we can't decide.
Pros and cons to both. Yeah. And well maybe we'll talk about that more
tomorrow when we slept on it. Yeah. And thought about it. Can I real quick just
say my con? Sure. Yeah. My con is I'm wondering if we do a shorter wall and
it's still too much shade for a garden. Mm-hmm. Then we'd have to bring that
outer wall up more to turn it into something else. Maybe. Which is still doable.
Maybe. Or I mean you know it could be that the roof just slants. That's way too
far though. It'd have to be a little higher. Anyway. Maybe. So many things to consider. If it's like a goat area it doesn't have to be
super tolerant. We still want to be able to walk through it to clean up. We'll just walk
through it like this. No. No we won't. Guys anyway we're still trying to figure this out.
Leave your suggestions in the comments below because maybe you have thought of
something that we haven't. Yeah that's very possible. Let's just hope that it
turns out that it works for a garden because I would be super bummed if it
doesn't. Yeah I don't know. We'll see. It's all an experiment. Yeah. It'll be
something. Yeah it will. Alright. Guys we'll see you tomorrow.
