You ever hear of chickpea tuna? Yes, that is a tuna salad sort of dish but made without actual tuna.
Instead, we're using chickpeas. It's super delicious, super easy to make,
and the perfect recipe for summer. I'm going to show you how to make it right now.
It's amazing how similar this chickpea tuna is to traditional tuna. It's super, super yummy.
But here's the thing. A lot of people think that when you go vegan, you're only going to be eating
like soy products, processed soy products, or lettuce, kale. But the truth is, you have so
many options. It's super easy to turn traditional animal product-based dishes like tuna salad into
vegan ones by simply replacing the animal protein with the plant-based protein and sticking with all
of the same ingredients, just, you know, a veganized version. For instance, instead of using
traditional mayonnaise, I'm using vegan mayo. Super, super easy to make these substitutions,
and this, I promise you, is a dish that everyone will love. So let's start with throwing in our
chickpeas, and then we can add in our celery and our shallots here, and then you can scoop in your
mayonnaise. Then let's add our mustard. I'm using Dijon mustard and umeboshi plum vinegar. And then
we just toss in our celery seeds, and I've also got some black pepper and some red chili flakes
in here as well. Great, and now let's just pulse it. You don't want to over blend it, though. Be
careful not to do that because we don't want to turn it into hummus. Just want to make sure it's
pulsed all combined, and we still have that nice tuna-y texture. So let's give it a taste.
Really yummy. And just so you know, if you don't have a food processor, you could make this dish
by just mashing all the ingredients together in a bowl with the fork. You need some, you put some
like elbow grease in there to mash it all. That'll be fine, but if you have a food processor, obviously
this is the easiest way to go. Oh, or you can use a mortar and pestle. If you've got that and you
don't have this, you know, use what you got. So let's serve this. I thought maybe it would be nice
serve it on some toast. So here I have a piece of just toasted Ezekiel bread, which is fabulous.
All right, so I rinsed and chopped up some kale before. Chopped it really finely so it's a little
bit more tender. So let's put this on top of our bread. That looks nice. We need some greens,
right? You could also use romaine or whatever else you like. All right, so let's top our toast with
some of our chickpea tuna. Now I'm going to garnish it with just a little bit of sea salt,
mostly for looks, also for a little bit of texture. Another quick note on this chickpea tuna is if you
don't want to use vegan mayonnaise, you can also use a ripe avocado. That'll also give it that
amazing creaminess that the vegan mayo gives it. So let's give it a try, see how delicious it is.
So good. Oh, with the kale, it's like extra good. I like the taste of kale.
So oh, it just all comes together in perfect deliciousness. This is great for lunch,
for picnics in the summertime, for kids, for anybody, and for any occasion, really.
