how to install grp fibreglass flat roof, roofing tutorial pt 1
We're back here on a Monday, it's day four and we're just about to take the roof off now.
I'm going to put a nice fiberglass roof on, so we're going to show you step by step how you do
that. I hope you enjoy. It's just the old felt roof and it's leaking in on that corner so where that
dodgy tile's been cut. We're just about to take the roof off now.
I've got all the felt and the edgings off now, there's a bit of a pain in the arthur but
just trying to work all these levels now. It's dead difficult because of the old roof. There's a
big, there's a big dip in the old roof so we're going to have to pack it up and drop it out.
There's a lot of work involved in re-leveling this because the fall runs the opposite way to
where we want it to fall. There's a dip in the middle so lots of packers and bits of wood everywhere
but this is what you've got to do. See the original fall of the roof was from that side
down to this side and there was like a gutter on there if you remember and we're falling our roof
from the back to the front where we're going to put a nice piece of gutter on the front and then
down straight to the front. So we need to re-level it all. That was a nice car wasn't it? Right folks
we've got the level sorted now after a lot of bloodied mithering about. We've packed up everywhere,
we've got the actual roof running flat. So we've got the roof running flat this way and this way
now but we need to get fall from the back to the front and you might be asking how are we going to
do that then? Well we've been to the timber merchant this morning and we've got these
fillets cut, these pieces of fillet which give us our fall. We're going to put them on each joist
and our board goes on that you see. So that goes on top of each of these, goes up to there
and it gives us a fall to the front. It gives us 50mm to nothing at the front. Can you see how it
all works? Once we've got these fillets on then we can start cutting the OSB board and then we're
ready for proper action. Casey's here now with our dinner, I think he's been borned again.
Right we're going to get some insulation in between them joists first and then we're going
to put the board on. So you've got to leave a 3mm gap for expansion so make sure you leave yourself
3mm. We're just getting this front fascia board on now.
Top of the boards now. I don't know about the weather.
Right we've got the roof ready now, we just need to give it a brush
and a sweep and a clean and it's ready for putting all the trims on and bandaging the joints.
To make this hard to last
I'm ready to tape these joints up now and we're just going to use gaffer tape.
I've just cut all the bandages and now I'm going to go and put a mix on.
Right joking aside guys, I know I look like I'm going for a swim but
it's very important that you cover all your eyes and you get your hands protected because we're
messing with chemicals here. My dad's up there with acetone cleaning the trims off
as you've just seen and I'm down here mixing resin with catalyst as well.
