I am now in one of the best
neighborhoods in all of Rome which is the Trastevere neighborhood
It is undoubtedly the city's premier bohemian
neighborhood and the truth is it's really cool
More pleasant than in someone's arms
Well and after 15 minutes of petting the cat
I think I've already been bitten by fleas for the
rest of the year but anyway it's not a big deal
Well as I was telling you this neighborhood Trastevere is the quintessential bohemian district
It is full as you can see of alleys of this kind
With plants on the facades and the
truth is it gives it a really cool touch
In addition to the colors with which all the building facades are painted
Then there are many bars
So it's a perfect place to visit the city all
day and then come here in the afternoon to relax
Sit one of the hundreds of terraces available
It's simply a much quieter much more peaceful area
Just enjoy it
It is near the Vatican and also on the western side of the Tiber River
I have eaten here now
The truth is that it's very good I've eaten pasta and tiramisu
So the days I'm going to be here are going to be all pasta pizza tiramisu
Panna cotta cappuccinos everything will be like this and without a hitch
The truth is it's a meal I love
But to show you look how beautiful everything is
This part where I am walking now is the Circus Maximus
It was the place used during the Roman Empire for chariot races
You will recognize them especially from the movie Ben-Hur
And the truth is that it's a place where practically nothing remains of what it once was
only the memory remains
Oh it's like a little park you can walk around
And there's the plaza and the small island in the middle to see where the curve was made and such
But back then it could accommodate up to 300 000 people
Seeing the different ones up to 12 four-horse chariots that could be in the race at the time
You can get an idea of the size of this place and how important it was
It is very close to the Colosseum and this whole area was like the playground area so to speak
I have just come to the Roman Colosseum which is the crown jewel here in Rome and in Italy I think
Oh I was here 13 years ago and it's still the place that impresses me the most
And it's a shame what bothers me most is that it's not well preserved
not as well preserved as for example the Pantheon
Because when you look at pictures of how it was back then it's an amazing place
The Colosseum was an amphitheater that was used since it was
built 2 000 years ago and was mainly used for performances
But yes it's a bit of that circus vibe they had back then
It was used for gladiator fights and there were even dramatic theater performances
For a time even naval battles were fought between ships because the
central part was so large that they would flood everything with water
And with ships fighting each other they had battles
But it became mainly famous for the gladiator battles that took place here
The executions that were carried out
And it was an incredibly large site that housed between 60 and 80 000 people
The average attendance was around 65 000 people for all the performances held here
They were also divided by social classes where people with fewer resources were at the very top
Where it was least visible and it was in the lower and middle levels where the most
powerful people were the government people and those with the greatest purchasing power
He has appeared in countless movies so I don't think we need to give many more
explanations about what it was used for but basically it served as a distraction
This site was used until the beginning of the Middle Ages when it was gradually abandoned
It is quite damaged today as you can see because it suffered many earthquakes
and many people came to steal rocks and other elements of the building
It deteriorated significantly over time and today much of it has had to be rebuilt
Just to have the main structure and prevent it from collapsing even if it's just simple
But otherwise they have not restored it nor renovated it to look as it did then
Then most of what you see that is partially collapsed is part of
the original structure which helps you imagine how it was back then
The goal at the end of the Colosseum was what was known as bread and circuses
which basically means that if you keep the people fed and entertained you give them entertainment
As in this case all the shows that were held here in the Colosseum
then you end up getting the people to accept anything
Then this is what the governors of that time took advantage of to make the policies they wanted
And something that has carried over until today is exactly what is still being done
Near the Roman Forum and quite central as well in what is called the Piazza Venezia
The monument to Vittorio Emanuele who was the first king of Italy is there
It is a giant building with a sculpture that is more than 70 meters tall
And you can go up there are stairs but there is also a small cable car
that operates almost all day and it offers great views of the central area
At the time it was quite controversial because it is a rather new building from the 20th century
It was completed in 1911 and generated considerable attention because of the construction of this building
They had to demolish part of what was an old medieval neighborhood and one of the hills behind it
Because as I've told you behind it is the Roman Forum the
entire Piazza Venezia area and then comes the Colosseum
Then it also has the nickname "the typewriter" because of its shape
but the truth is that today it is one of the iconic sites in the city of Rome
It is difficult for you to leave without seeing it because it is in the center
Well I'm wrapping up the day it's been a very long day I mean because I haven't stopped
but the truth is I love Rome the only negative thing about Rome is that I think it's the city
More crowded than I've ever seen in my life meaning there's a lot of people everywhere
And I don't know like New York Paris Bangkok it's just nothing nothing to do with the pressure
It's crazy in Rome with tourism For example Bangkok
has a lot of people but they're locals you know I mean
This is generally the stress you feel with tourism
But aside from that the city is on par with the most beautiful ones I know
And the truth is that I have loved coming back and visiting everything again
No wonder I'm out of breath I've already walked about 35 kilometers 35 kilometers that's why I'm exhausted
but the truth is I have enjoyed it all so much and nothing I ended the day visiting
The most important points to see at night when illuminated and in a more peaceful manner
And I have dined in Trastevere I thank you here for "Continue Traveling "
To the guys from Seguir Viajando for recommending a restaurant in Trastevere
It's very good super cheap I mean in general eating and dining in Rome is very cheap
I think the pizza cost 5 euros a whole pizza and I don't know I mean
And then it's amazing everything here from pasta to pizza is incredible
What let me down a bit was the cappuccino I've ordered coffee at several places just plain coffee
So I was expecting a fairly good cappuccino and a fairly mediocre one but well
Otherwise the rest of the food is incredible so nothing else I can't stop recommending it
Come to Rome I'm going to close now because I'm exhausted and nothing else
Thank you so much for making it this far see you tomorrow or not
