In this video we will discuss about the thumb rules for RCC work like Concrete & steel and we should follow when we using concrete steel for our every need in civil construction work. Some thumb rules are essential for reinforcement of concrete structures. In this video, I discuss some of the thumb rules when it comes to RCC Work, concrete and steel used in construction. This is a thumbs-rules video for civil engineers working in reinforced concrete constructions who are not well represented in the field and less experienced. Our aim is to give a basic idea of how we could easily calculate RCC quantities. This video describes the standard thumb rules in construction, today I'm going to talk about the standard thumb rules you should understand when doing high rise buildings. Understanding what and when to use thumb rules are important factors for designing buildings. This video explains some standard thumb rules used in Civil Engineering. Thumb rules in construction is a video for new construction workers. It provides information about standard thumb rules in construction.

Hello Friends Welcome to Knowledge Hub
channel Let's learn together As I said in
the last video we are starting a series
of thumb rules Today is our second video
In the last video we saw what thumb rules are used for standard high-rise buildings
In today's video we will look at thumb rules for concrete and steel
Let's start
Thumb rules for RCC concrete and steel
As we saw in the last video how thumb rules are used in construction
First of all the thumb rule for concrete
If we want to calculate the quantity of concrete in any project
With respect to area We don't have a drawing
available Only the area is available If we
want to calculate the quantity of concrete
according to the area
then this is the thumb rule
The volume of concrete required is 0.038 cubic meters per square foot of area
We can calculate the total volume based on 0.038 cubic meters per square foot
For example if our plan area is 100 by 50 it equals 5000 square feet
Therefore the amount of concrete will be 5000 square feet multiplied by 0.038 which equals 190 cubic meters
The ratio is 0.038 cubic meters per square foot of area It is important to keep
this in mind Accordingly we can calculate
the quantity of concrete from the area
For 1 cubic meter of concrete cement is generally used according to the mix design
The aggregate ratio is also according to the
mix design On average it is 0.82 m3 to 0.88 m3
For 1 m3 of concrete the aggregate ratio is between 0.82 m3 and 0.88 m3
10 mm 20 mm and 40 mm aggregates are used according to the mix design
The sand ratio is 0.50 m3 to 0.55 m3 per 1 m3 of concrete River sand and
crushed sand are also used according to the proportion and mix design
The thumb rule for steel
The minimum quantity of steel required for 1 m3 of concrete is 1%
For 1 m3 of concrete it is 0.01 m3
The weight of steel is 0.01 m3 of steel into 7850
The density of steel is 7850 kg per m3
Accordingly the weight of steel for 1 cubic meter of concrete is 7850 kg
The general rule for the amount of steel required for slabs beams footings and columns
The steel required for a residential building is 4.5 kg to 4.75 kg
4.5 kg to 4.75 kg is required for square feet of steel
For commercial buildings 5 kg to 5 5 kg is required for square feet of steel
According to B N Dutta Sir's recommendation
the percentage of steel structural member
is mentioned The percentage of each structure
is mentioned Column beam slab foundation
For slab 1% of the total volume of concrete
For beam 2% of the total volume of concrete
For column 5% of the total volume of concrete
For footings 0.8% of the total volume of concrete
Now we will see this through an example
For example there is a slab of 40 m x 0.15 m size
First of all we have to calculate the volume of concrete
The volume of concrete is 15 x 40 x 0 15 which equals 300 m3
After this we need to calculate the amount of steel according to the formula
As we have seen on the previous slide B N Dutta's guidelines
Slab is 1%
Now the quantity of concrete is 300 m3
So slab is 1%
So when calculating the weight of steel
the volume of concrete is 300 m3 x 7850
7850 is the density of steel
So the total is 23 550 kg for the slab
Accordingly we have to calculate the volume of the beam
300 x 7850 x 2.02 equals 47 100 kg
Column is 300 x 7850 x 0.025 equals 58 875 kg
The steel weight of the foundation is 300 x 7850 x 0.008 which equals 18 840 kg
Now we will see the thumb rule
for RCC These are some thumb rules According
to the volume for example how much
steel is required per cubic meter
For roof slab 80 kg of steel per cubic meter is required
For beam 120 kg of steel per cubic meter is required
For columns 160 to 180 kg of steel per cubic meter is required
For foundation 45 to 50 kg of steel per cubic meter is required
This is an assumption and a general rule
It is not that only this much accuracy is required
Accuracy is required according to the drawing and the bar bending schedule
To calculate the unit weight of steel there
is a simple formula: D squared divided by
162 We can calculate the quantity of steel
per cubic meter These are all thumb rules
For example how much steel is required per cubic meter This
is a percentage These are all
based on tentative and thumb rules If you want
to calculate the accurate quantity of steel
Then you have to prefer the bar bending schedule The
quantity in the bar bending schedule remains accurate
So friends we have seen how to calculate the quantity
of steel and
concrete according to the thumb rule and how much steel is required per cubic meter of concrete
We have seen all these details in this video In the next video we will see
how to calculate the quantity of concrete
according to the thumb rule of shuttering
