December wild island camp

Well this is me and Tyson heading out for a little sneaky one-nighter Well guys this is going to be just a little short one again I got a chance to go out for a I had a one-nighter off work and a little spare time so yeah it's cold and damp Meant to be some sort of arctic blast coming next week well sorry this week on Wednesday Three days away but the temperature has dropped rapidly already you can tell it's winter Been a while since I've carried this much kit this far I'm not struggling but I'm definitely aware I'm carrying it there she is quite low or very low really be all the frost in the mountains everything all the water will be frozen up there so there'll be nothing coming down Or not a lot anyway I'm gonna walk up a bit further You see the little sprinkles of rain it's like spitting then you've got like a rainbow over there Well it's first flood Zone camp and it looks like it's well out of the water but I've got to cross that because There's no bridge so I might just take my boots and socks off and do it that way save rushing around for a bridge or something well here we are first flood plain camp completely washed clean it's like there's a new beginning A bit of a fire pit well the stones for the whole fire pit there but that is it that is it it's not Really oh yeah I see firewood now It's quite a bit over here a couple of good bits over there He's already found a ball literally we've been here two seconds let's have a look oh look at that It makes me wish I had my chainsaw look at these places punch another old fire pit that is nice A bit of dry wood as a start lift it with one hand I'm happy with that all the barks you know it's Come down the river because all the bark has been chipped off of it tonight I'm going to be setting Up my DD tarp and also the hammock nest just because it's my comfiest winter setup so for a I'm hanging my tarp this way around so that I can have my fire here on the stones and the river's just there just the uh snug Pack Elite Five in there so far Still got the underquilt to put on and uh my blanket hi I've been and got under the bench It's easy to get rid of again so that there's no trace my fire pit is just a little stone back The wall was raised up and I started to collect firewood just small twiggy bits quite happy with my little area and got a little table over there the size of that log Come on well I've just checked the The sun is going to set in 45 minutes and it's going to drop to zero or minus two degrees tonight Hopefully it won't be that cold with the fire this close to my hammock so it should be pretty sweet I've had a big breakfast and a big lunch Just snack later on I've got some sausages to cook and my coffee's ready Yeah looking forward to it This arctic blast next week hopefully it'll be some camping time There's a little robin though a little chill down because it's started raining not quite cold enough for it to be snow or ice yet Tyson's just on his uh thermal mat with a snug pack blanket over him just to keep Keep my cheeks warm while he's not running around starting to get the lap of luxury on the go got my wool blanket on my bench still raining lightly what a view that is The moon is coming through the old axe is holding up well it's got a few years on it now It still does the job this is the spit roast I use I got it from Shane Coffee on YouTube he gifted it to me It was a long time ago that's the coffee spit setup a little square on the end allows you to turn it carry mine in my peg bag sausage cooking slowly just off at the side well sort of Gas my five logs it's not dark it is it's just each of the black that's where I changed them o get the other side toasted off I've put out my fire for the last time now it's almost midnight and I'll get about five hours Sleep so it'll be dark again when I get up Hopefully get light on my way back See you Mr Tyson is ready for bed oh that's bright morning guys I slept real good Mr Tyson's over here I always like the fact that when you're on the way back there's very little to carry Everything in one bag just my tarp to take down ground sheet to take in still got old tyson stuff down here got my mitts for when it gets really cold so warm my fire gloves My power bag sleeping bag under quilt hammock yeah and a spare jacket got the good old jet A ball on the go the ice butane so it doesn't freeze the gas a lot no sign of the sun yet Still early okay it's 5:40 in the morning so I've just spread out the ashes to warm us both up Before we head out Tyson's little loinclo Yeah that's my breath It's a bit nippy not as cold as it could have been I've got a dog back on the lead just because I know there are cows in this field up here I don't know if you can see them The city's light in the distance another 30 minutes and I'll be home I think it's all frosty and slippy now right out of the cover the sun's coming up in the distance well it's not it's Sort of like showing a bit of
