The worst photography advice I've heard.
You should always shoot at the widest open aperture on your lens because otherwise you're
wasting money.
Typically, this terrible advice is associated with lenses that have a 1.2, 1.4, or 1.8 aperture.
And hey, I get it.
We must have the bokeh.
But just because the lens can't shoot that wide open doesn't mean we always have to.
It's there as an option.
Wow, what a revelation.
Sometimes we do have to stop down to f4 or f5.6 just to get the shot more in focus or
f9 for the starry light effects.
But more often than not, when you shoot that wide open, it could lose a lot of context
depending on the story you're trying to tell.
Yes, there is such a thing as too much bokeh.
I'm just as obsessed as any bokeh bros out there.
I always love me some juicy, creamy background blur.
But I will stop down on the aperture if I know that will help me tell my story better.
So don't obsess over the technicalities of the settings and just focus on what makes
a better shot.
Don't let these toxic advice stop you from taking full advantage of your lenses.
Otherwise, this has been.
