But anyway, today I want to talk about the worst player in NBA history, Sun Yui.
Heard of him?
Probably not.
Makes sense for a bad player.
Now this can be subjective, but this is my opinion on the worst player of all time and
you're about to see why.
Sun Yui was the 40th pick in the 2007 draft.
Drafted by the Lakers, Sun Yui got to live the dream as a shooting guard, playing with
Kobe Bryant and possibly learning from him.
Many players would give everything to try to learn from Kobe Bryant, especially a shooting
guard, and Sun Yui was handed it.
The Lakers thought to take a chance on Sun because he was a 6-9-2 guard.
Seriously, what is up with these tall Asian players?
He decided to stay with his international team in 2007 and joined the Lakers in 2008.
In his international career, at first he played in the ABA, the international league and not
the historical one, where he was an All-ABA first team player.
He was also solid in the Chinese Basketball Association, playing a significant role in
Beijing winning championships back to back, but the NBA, that was a whole different story.
The highlight of Sun Yui's career was in his first game, where he scored 4 points.
4 points!
He would only score a grand total of 2 more points in his 9 other games, but that wasn't
the worst part.
In the 5 minutes that he scored 4 points, he also committed 4 fouls and had 2 turnovers.
He had as many fouls as points.
In fact, in his 10 games, he had more fouls than points, only had 2 assists and 0 rebounds
as a 6-9 shooting guard.
I don't know about you, but that's just trash.
Now I tried to find NBA highlights of Sun Yui, but the only NBA highlight I could find
of him was him scoring his first basket.
The other highlights or so-called highlights of him are just him fouling people or missing
rebounds in 240p resolution.
So this is the best or worst player of all time could get and that makes sense.
After those games, he never saw playing time in the NBA again.
What amazes me is how he wasn't waived by the team.
Sun Yui rode the pine all the way to a ring.
He is the worst player in NBA history to win a ring and that's facts.
After a championship, Sun Yui was waived, picked up by the Knicks, and dropped again
before the start of the next season.
Even after all of this, I was between Sun Yui and Cherokee Parks as the worst player
in NBA history, but the fact that Sun Yui only played 10 games was the deciding factor,
especially because it was enough for him not to play another game.
That's a sign that even in practices, he just wasn't showing any potential.
Now we have to consider that Sun Yui may have not gotten enough chances or was put in at
the wrong place at the wrong time because behind Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, he might
have not gotten enough time or chance to shine.
But the coaches did not really talk about Sun Yui.
If he was on the Lakers team for an entire season, he must have participated in practices,
but coaches still didn't talk about him.
Maybe he did just enough to be useful in practices as an extra lanky body and that's why he
But that didn't get him any playing time and that doesn't excuse his horrid play.
As a player that had more fouls than points in his career, Sun Yui became the worst player
in NBA history and lucky for him, a forgotten player in the long, long history of the NBA.
