Alex does his version of the #CanoeFlipChallenge that is in place to raise money for Project Canoe. If you are unfamiliar with Project Canoe, we highly recommend you check out their website www.canoe.org
About Project Canoe Project Canoe is an organization that offers therapeutic and educational outdoor programming to Ontario youth in both wilderness and urban environments. Their focus is on youth who might otherwise miss out on the experience of outdoor adventure as a result of systemic or mental health barriers they face in their lives. Project Canoe is a Registered Charity established in 1977 and has served over 4000 youth.
What is going on guys?
It's Alex here with Northern Scavenger and we have a fun video for you today.
Some of you may be familiar with the Canoe Flip Challenge that's currently going on.
A great little challenge that has been made to raise money for Project Canoe.
For those of you who don't know who Project Canoe is, they're an outstanding organization
that focuses on taking at-risk youth or youth who wouldn't have otherwise had an opportunity
to get into the backcountry, into the backcountry.
Some of you may be familiar with it.
Noah and I did the Meanest Link route a couple years ago and we raised money for Project
Canoe on that challenge.
We tried to do the Meanest Link in under 10 days.
It's an organization that we're definitely familiar with and any opportunity for us to
have another opportunity to support them is an opportunity that we're going to take.
Now this Canoe Flipping Challenge, for those of you who are unaware of what it is, essentially
the challenge is to flip a canoe over your head as many times as you can in 60 seconds
safely and then to make a $1 donation for every flip that you're able to do over your head.
The other option is to be as creative as you can and so I've decided that I'd like to be
a little bit more creative in this one because I've seen some great videos out there, some
other great creators who are coming up with all sorts of fun ways to do this challenge
and so I've decided that the way I'm going to one-up this today is I'm going to see how
far I can ride with this canoe on my head while on a unicycle.
So I haven't done much unicycling at all lately so I think just getting on this thing is going
to be interesting.
I think it's like riding a bike but I don't know that for sure.
So in order to tie this to a donation what I've decided is that I'm going to hop on this
unicycle, throw this canoe over my head, I might actually put the canoe on first and
then hop on the unicycle.
I'm going to give myself three attempts to see how far I can ride and whatever my longest
distance is I'm going to donate $1 for every foot that I'm able to ride this unicycle and
I'm going to see how far I'm able to go.
If I don't make it that far on any of my three attempts then I might just have to add them
all together just to make my donation worthwhile.
So anyways, without further ado, time to hop on this unicycle and see how far we can go.
Alright, attempt number one.
Yeah, excellent.
I feel like I'm playing road hockey but I don't know what you call this sport.
Oh, he just pulled in and yep, that's good.
Ready?
Hang on, I'm going to, yep.
I feel like this is going to be a good one.
Yep.
Oh, we got some momentum.
That was pretty good.
Time to measure it out in the old Canadian fashion.
This is a 16 foot canoe.
Let's see how many feet this is.
That's 16...
32...
48...
64...
Alright.
64 and a bit.
Like 70 feet.
Woo!
Alright, so I think that that ended up going pretty well.
I didn't think I'd make it as far as I did.
I was a little nervous, but we pulled it off.
So, it looks like on my first attempt I rode about a foot,
attempt number two was about 10 feet,
and my third attempt I made it 70.
So I think we'll put those together for an $80 donation
that I will be sending to Project Canoe.
In terms of nominating people,
I think most of our friends have already done this challenge.
So, in that case, I challenge the viewers
to either do this challenge
or to look up Project Canoe,
learn a little bit more about their organization.
If you can afford to make a donation right now,
I know that they would greatly appreciate it.
And we would definitely appreciate that as well.
And just make sure that when you are making donations
to tag hashtag CanoeFlipChallenge
in the comments section on their website
so that they're able to trace back how much money
was able to be raised by this fun little challenge.
So, thank you very much for following along
and we'll see you guys on the next one.
