Good morning, it's about 6 30 a.m here in Singapore. Woke up about 5 30, super hungry.
So came back to get what I think is one of the best paratha on the island and also
some butter toast and eggs. And while i'm waiting for my food to cook, a big thank you and shout out to the sponsor of
today's video, Surfshark VPN. Guys, I've been talking about Surfshark VPN for several years now. It's still a tool
I utilize every single day and I highly recommend you try it out. The world is opening up more, everyone's traveling more,
there's a high chance you're going to be connected to all sorts of different wi-fi hotspots at cafes,
airports, train stations. A lot of these hotspots are not very secure and they're really easy ways for people to gain access to your
personal information. And when people gain access to your personal info, it's pretty scary.
I'm sure we all experience this when we're chatting with our friends about something or googling something, all of a sudden the ads for whatever
you're talking about start showing up everywhere or they can gain access to your IP address, even find out your precise location.
There's some scary stuff out there.
So what a VPN is, is a virtual private network and what Surfshark VPN does is that it secures and encrypts your personal information
before it goes over the internet. So people who you don't want having access to your private info,
they're not going to have access to it. Also, Surfshark has something called Surfshark Alerts.
So when someone's trying to gain access to something like your email, you're going to get notified right away.
Also on the entertainment and just basic everyday functionality side,
you can use Surfshark VPN to access other countries' Netflix catalogs by making Netflix think that you're actually in that particular country.
Or when you're out of the country like me, you want to have access to your U.S.
streaming services, you can use Surfshark VPN to make those services think that you're actually back in the U.S.
so you can watch shows and movies that you pay for. And I've been telling you guys a lot of times when you travel overseas,
basic major websites like bank websites, a lot of websites just don't function at all.
Don't even load when you're overseas. So I utilize Surfshark VPN for something as basic as paying my bills as well.
So if you want to give it a try, go to my link down below. Use my promo code Mikey Chen.
You'll get 83% off your order plus three additional months for free and try it out for 30 days.
If you don't like it for any reason, get your money back. All right, I think they're waiting. I mean my food is ready.
So I got a chicken curry here. They give you a
giant piece. Oh, this is so
tender as well. Look at this.
Super tender piece of chicken.
This curry is so good. This is again one of my favorite paratha places on the island. This is the coin paratha.
Oh, that's so good. These coin parathas are my favorite. They're tiny so they're ridiculously crispy.
The chicken curry is so spicy and rich. This is the garlic paratha.
Look at that.
Loaded with fresh chopped up garlic.
I don't think I've had a place better than this in Singapore. It's too good. It's just too good.
This place is gonna take care of all your food cravings.
I mean if you want something carby, you want something spicy, meaty, rich, crispy, chewy, airy.
This is not at all. Something else I got.
Some egg, soy sauce, a little pepper, some kaya toast and just zip
it
in.
Eat that
with some coffee.
I've really been getting into coffee after coming to Singapore.
Mainly because whenever I go eat kaya toast, having some bitter coffee with the sweet buttery toast and the velvety egg yolk,
it's just so nice.
And this is the kind of food you can get all over Singapore. I mean these places open at 6 a.m.
There's a lot of these places that open at 4 a.m.
Basically anytime you're hungry here, you'll find some amazing food to fill your stomach.
And I don't even live in a very central location. This is around the Thompson Plaza area.
Another reason why I love it here so much.
Some awesome breakfast. Freshly squeezed orange juice for about $1.50. I think I'm ready for lunch now.
Hey, it's lunch time. I don't know if you guys remember a long long time ago
I did a video on Kyoto, Japan where it was basically a flaming,
literal flaming bowl of ramen. Well, they have a location here in Singapore. So that's gonna be lunch and
maybe the last time I
see my eyebrows. So all the ingredients are shipped from Japan. Premium matcha, the shoyu, the yuzu.
And I remember when I was in Japan, they have little
docks in the kitchen to put your phone up. So they film the video of you
staring into a ball of flames. So what I remember from this experience is they seat you at the bar,
they give you your bowl of ramen. Flash fire with oil and basically hellfire and all that happens right in front of your face.
So I'm gonna get the 226 year shoyu fire ramen, which costs 17, 18 Singapore dollars.
So about 14 US. Not bad. And for your beer lovers, they have an authentic Kyoto matcha beer.
Okay, so sitting in front and they give you instructions. Don't, please stay seated. Don't run away. Sit, keep your hands behind your back.
Pass your phone to them.
They do give you the broth so you can taste it before and after
the fire.
It's actually really good. That gentleman right there is heating up the oil.
Still there, right?
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, that was hot.
But as the oil is going on the scallions, the scallion is being fried. This ramen is definitely one of the most aromatic.
I mean the aroma from this bowl of ramen is intoxicating.
So there is garlic and scallion in this. And it's the same concept as cooking hot oil.
You flash fry the scallions and garlic and chilies. It just creates such an amazing, amazing aroma.
And your entire bowl is gonna be filled with that.
You're serving thin straight noodle. That's so good. I mean people do argue over the taste of this place.
I really like this.
I mean the biggest difference between the broth from before the fire and now. When you taste the fire, you taste the smoke.
You taste the char.
Noodle, very al dente, very chewy. I will have to say the char looks a little dry.
That's definitely the worst part of this bowl. A little tough, very chewy. Best part of this, broth in the ramen for sure.
I've always gotten the shoyu. I think that's definitely the best bowl here. Also, I got the charcoal
karaage. I mean
this definitely looks like someone went a little hard on the flames.
I think this is awesome. The chicken inside that very black outer breading is so, so tender.
It's charcoal, so it's not actually burnt. So you don't get any of the burnt flavor here.
This thing is just pure deliciousness. Chicken fried perfectly. Outside shell is light and crunchy.
I mean it looks so intriguing. It looks like it's gonna be bitter, overly cooked and none of that.
It's perfect and the dipping sauce I think has a little wasabi in here as well
which balances out the richness of the chicken. A lot of people knock this place. It's kind of a novelty.
It is, it is. I'm sure the added flame show
is a big draw for this place, a big reason why people come here. But I actually do think the ramen is delicious.
I remember in Japan, the shop gives you even more scallions than this, which makes it taste even better.
I think it's a delicious bowl of ramen. I think it's a delicious plate of karaage.
And end the meal, use your ice cream.
This is really really good. Very icy though.
Can use some of that fire on this ice cream. And all this, all the ingredients, everything shipped from Japan.
I think this has been an awesome ramen meal.
This place, one of the most popular Japanese restaurants here in Singapore and their slogan is high-end food, casual prices. I like that.
These dishes here look so awesome. So this is like a like a chic Japanese restaurant.
Wow, it's so pretty. At least in the photo, it looks so pretty. Look at this.
Omi wagyu. And this is served on a, on a leaf. Omi wagyu, by the way, one of the best wagyu in Japan.
They're so good. The soba looks amazing. Himi wasabi donburi,
or sato,
or yakudon. I have no idea
what to do because I want it all. Whoa, look at this. Seafood kaminabe set.
So Japanese hot pot with live tiger prawns, fresh salmon, assorted vegetables. I still got dinner after this.
I know I can't fit all this in but I want to try every single one of these food items.
It's gonna be a hard decision. So when you order a drink, not water, anything else, they give you complimentary appetizer. Cucumber.
And a little seaweed chicken.
They're both really good. Cucumber is really spicy
and sesame oily. That's really good. And this is the tea that got me the free appetizer. It's beautiful. It's a lychee iced tea.
Giant piece of lychee on the bottom.
They brought over syrup so you can add it yourself so you can control the sweetness level.
I'm glad it's not overly sweet. I was kind of afraid of that. That's smart.
Let's hop on some food.
First of all, they cook everything on a stove.
Anna
puts like a thick foil.
Inside there's carrots, greens, cabbage,
mushrooms, salmon,
prawns,
giant scallions and tofu. Everything you find in a shabu-shabu cooked at your table.
Wagyu is here.
This dish is so cool.
So dry hoba leaf, which is dried magnolia leaf on top. There's konjac jelly.
There's miso paste and sitting on top A5 Omi beef, one of the best breeds of wagyu
in Japan and it's all cooked on top of wood charcoal over this little brick stove.
All right, as good as this hot pot is I'm gonna have to come back to this because A5 wagyu trumps all.
The beef is cooked right now medium rare and what they told me to do was kind of turn it around
and dip it all into this
miso sauce and there's vegetables here too. Different types of mushroom, konjac jelly.
There we go.
Oh my god, oh my food god. Of all that is delicious in this world,
this is one of the most delicious-est. It's so good. I don't usually like
wagyu with anything but some salt and pepper,
but this miso is divine.
So incredibly earthy. Look how they actually give you a lot of wagyu. So this dish is about
$65-66 Singapore dollars, about 40 bucks. You get a good-sized chunk of steak and every piece so
deeply marbled and tender and covered in this again, very earthy, very flavorful, rich miso.
And you can also of course dip all the vegetables, all the konjac jelly in here as well.
That miso is so good. A little sweet and very rich, full of deep umami flavor. Perfect with the mushrooms.
This is some sort of rice cake. This is also so delicious. Again,
the best part of this, of course, the A5 wagyu. And this is all cooked on top of the dried magnolia leaf.
This leaf smells so good too.
The wagyu does what the wagyu does best. It just melts.
It just melts instantly. The moment you put it on your tongue, it's already starting to melt.
A couple bites in, it's gone. All it's left is this beautiful,
incredibly, incredibly rich flavor. I've said before, it's absolutely life-changing.
No matter how many times you've had wagyu before,
every time you bite into it, you fall in love with it all over again.
This is such an incredible dish and it's really
a work of art. It's so beautiful.
Flavor, texture, aroma. This dish has it all.
Going back to this hot pot for just a sec here. This is so beautiful as well. Beautiful colors. It's orange, it's green, it's white.
Look at this. Fresh, giant prawns inside.
The salmon is so
light and delicate.
I really don't need any dipping sauce.
It's so sweet and fatty on its own.
The broth is light, sweet, seafood-y. Everything just tastes so natural and fresh. Look at this. Do you need gloves for this?
The gloves are so nicely packaged.
The gloves are so nice. Suck on that shrimp head.
Oh, it's so good.
Especially when dipped a little bit into the yuzu.
Sweet, citrusy, and oh so tender.
This is already one of my favorite restaurants in Singapore.
I don't know how I've been here for a couple of months and haven't even
heard about this place. And this is why I just walk around so much. Today, I just went to a ramen shop and afterwards just
looking around to see what other foods around me. Came across this place. Not eating here before I left Singapore.
Would have been a giant
food regret.
I'm so happy for the rice. I don't think I need the rice for the shabu, really. Definitely eating it with the miso.
That miso goes so good with the rice. A couple bites of that. A little sip of broth.
Crunch out the cucumber.
All these dishes complement each other so well. One last thing I want to get to before it gets soggy on me.
I also got a cold bowl of soba. Look at this. Look how pretty this is. So the radish is made into a little bunny.
Lime as ears. And the soba is buried underneath this.
Cold soba under all that lime. And as much as I think this bunny is cute, I will like the radish.
Just like all the other dishes here, the soba is absolutely perfect. Beautiful, beautiful chewy texture.
So light and refreshing.
And citrusy. I got three very, very different dishes in every single one. This place knocked it out of the park.
I'm not in Japan yet, but this is quite a Japanese food experience.
All right, they're about to close for lunch. So I gotta hurry up and eat so they can go on break. See you guys in a bit.
All right, they're so nice here.
I was trying to finish up so they can go on break. They offered a couple desserts for me to try. First of all,
this is the matcha bava. This is a matcha french pudding. Now, I'm sure you've seen pudding jiggle before.
I don't think you've seen pudding jiggle like this.
Look at that.
That's extreme jiggling. This is the ultimate dancing pudding. I also want to cut into this.
Oh, this is so good. Wow.
That is a delicious, delicious matcha pudding. Slightly bouncy texture when you squeeze it between your tongue and the roof of your mouth.
It starts melting and then the magic happens. The matcha,
the amazing matcha flavor starts spreading
all over your taste buds and you're just left in a state of shock by how
matcha-y this is.
The other special dessert is three different types of mochi, the soybean mochi,
the black sesame mochi, and the matcha mochi. You drizzle some of that brown sugar syrup on top
and you start with the soy and you end with the matcha.
Wow, that texture is so light. Mochi sometimes is a little heavy. That tastes like it's about to fly away. Black sesame.
It almost tastes like a cross between a mochi and a jello. Again, it's so light. It breaks apart really, really easily.
The matcha one is the most bitter, but you definitely taste the quality in that green tea. This dessert is awesome. Comfort of the dishes.
Definitely a state that they deserve. Incredible lunch.
Dinner time. Last meal of the day. This place has been on my list for a while. EB Bar.
So this is, they say, home to rich umami prawn broth.
And they say the broth is cooked with 40 kilograms of prawn for more than eight hours daily.
And it's charred. And there's only really three options to choose from. You can get noodles with soup or
poke noodles dry or the po fun option. Let's get the soup and a dry version.
There's a lot of umami flowing around in the air right now. There's something about a charred prawn. It's just the best smelling thing ever.
Wow.
Oh my gosh, it is beautiful. First of all, it came in a steam basket, which is
fantastic. Two giant prawns
beautifully charred sitting in this bowl
of broth that's just
radiating umami. Look at these noodles. These are homemade noodles. This is crazy, guys.
Sprouts in here, a couple pieces of chicken.
I'm telling you guys that the aroma is just exploding out of the bowl. I'm not exaggerating a little bit.
Oh, wow, that's crazy good.
I don't even want to swallow that broth. I just want it to sit on my tongue and just keep
spilling over flavor all over my taste buds. If you ever took a sip of this,
you'll know exactly what I mean.
You don't even want this to go down the hatch. Giant prawns are just such a great source to extract just
the purest, most potent umami. And that's like what I'm sipping right now. Just potent umami extract.
It's sweet. It's smoky. I want to save the prawn for last. I just want to try a piece of this chicken.
Wow, very tender, smoky. And then the noodles.
These are homemade. Super al dente. Smooth, chewy, elastic-y. Delicious.
Mmm, those noodles are so bouncy.
That's really perfect with this broth. The number one favorite dish here, actually, is this. This is the dry version.
Look at this. Some ikura, two giant prawns, squid in here as well, calamansi.
Put the prawn aside. Grab the citrus. Give that a nice squeeze. A couple different types of noodles in here,
which kind of reminds me of a shrimp mee.
Ah, this is intense. This is very, very good.
They definitely took the essence of the prawn and they cooked it into these noodles. The noodles themselves here
are way more flavorful than the ones in the broth.
I mean the flavor definitely steeped through every strand of this. And also the noodles are so buttery.
There's also shrimp in here. This feels like it tastes like giant charred prawn mee.
Don't get me wrong.
This is absolutely delicious. Again, so buttery and rich texture. You got the chewy noodles, which are very, very al dente.
You got the smokiness of the prawn, the popping ikura. Everything about this is delicious.
But for me, I need that broth. I need that broth. That broth is just everything that's good in this world in a bowl.
I haven't even got into the prawns yet.
You bring this close, you give it a sniff, and if your mouth doesn't automatically water, I'm not sure you like food.
Oh wow. You can taste all that crisp smoke.
The char, the fire, and all that flavor is infused in this sweet giant prawn. This is absolutely amazing.
Prawn is good, but it all comes back for me to this broth.
I mean they really extracted all that great flavor from the prawn and just made one of the best bowl of prawn broth
you'll find anywhere. I mean the most popular one may be the dry noodle. I highly, highly recommend getting the noodle soup.
I mean, this is a flavor intense meal. Oh, they also brought over some fried chicken. Look at this.
This is a salted mackerel fried chicken.
I'm, not really sure what that means. Like, mackerel fish in here?
Oh.
Whoa. First of all, that hot sauce will roundhouse you in the face. Oh, that's spicy.
The other batter is incredibly light. So, so juicy. So yeah, I ask, there is mackerel in here.
The batter is so light and flavorful. Well today, honestly, really was just planning on going to get some fire ramen.
But then looked around the area where I was, then found Masada, which turned out to be such an amazing gym.
And then realized this was, this place was right next door.
And this is about as flavorful as a bowl of prawn noodle soup as you can find probably anywhere. Again,
that's why I love being in this country. One of the things I really appreciate about it is that
Singaporeans love to eat. They love food. Food is such a big part of their culture.
And because this place is not that big, you can find so many amazing food spots anywhere you go.
That's why I always say this is one of the best countries to go to. If your sole purpose when you go on a vacation,
or go on a trip like me, it's just for food. This is one of the top places on this planet.
I mean anything you want, western food, asian food, you're gonna find it here.
You're gonna find a lot of it here. My noodle's getting soggy.
I gotta get back to that. But as always, all the places I went to listed down below for you guys.
Thank y'all so much for watching. Until we eat again, see you later.
