Hi guys!
You are watching Oxy Vlogs and if this is your first time here and you would like to
know more information about life in Dubai, keep watching this video.
Today I have a very special video for you about 7 things you didn't know about Dubai.
Emiratis tend to keep to themselves away from the tourists, so it's very unlikely that
you will be sitting on the beach and chatting to a local.
Most tourists get a chance to meet a local only one time at the airport when they get
their passport stamped.
Border control is staffed almost entirely by Emiratis and many government roles are
reserved for locals.
But these are not great places to start chatting to them about their life.
If you want to know more about the history of the country, you should go to the Sheikh
Mohammed Museum of Cultural Understanding, where you will get more information about
the local culture.
Emirati nationals are only 20% of the total EU population.
The majority of the population is Indian, Pakistani, Western and Asian.
Dubai is not that tall as you think.
It has only 1,344 skyscrapers, that's not many compared with Hong Kong which has 6,606
and New York which has 6,180.
But Dubai has the tallest building in the world which peaks at 828 meters.
Police cars in Dubai are epic.
With so many supercars on the road, Dubai police can't just drive around in a normal
car.
That's why to keep up with the crime, they've got Lamborghini, Ferraris, McLaren and Bugatti
Veyron.
Another interesting fact and I'm sure that most of you haven't heard about it, but
the tallest building in the world which is called Burj Khalifa was supposed to be called
Burj Dubai before it opened in 2010.
Last minute they changed the name in honor of the Emir of Abu Dhabi, the President of
the EU.
Because during that time the country had been in deep crisis, massive property bubble and
Sheikh Khalifa bailed out Dubai and helped the city financially to finish the construction
of Burj Khalifa.
That's why as a token of appreciation they decided to change the name.
When you visit Dubai for the first time you will be quite surprised because you will see
far more men on the streets than women.
The Dubai population is around 3 million people and 72% are male and 28% are female.
Most city's expats are male who left their home country and came to the EU to earn money
and support their families back home.
58% of the population is aged between 25 and 44 years old.
Before tourism Dubai made its money with oil.
But before oil the main traders were fishing, farming and pearl diving.
In early 20th century there were 300 pearl sailing boats in Dubai creek with over 7000
sailors on board.
So when you visit Dubai highly recommend you to visit the historic part of Dubai as it's
completely different from Dubai you used to see on TV.
And the last interesting fact for today that you can buy pretty much anything from a vending
machine.
There is a gold to go ATM in the Dubai mall where you can buy anything from the gold coin
to a gold bar.
And there is even a computer installed inside the vending machine which controls the prices
every 10 minutes in line with the real time fluctuations in the market.
So guys thank you for watching.
