Hey guys, it's Mike Chen.
Before heading out today and before getting to this video, my favorite time of the month,
Japanese snack time with the sponsor of this video, Tokyo Treat and Sakura Co.
Let's see what's inside.
First, Tokyo Treat.
And this month's theme is Sakura Picnic.
Anytime you open one of these boxes, you'll get a booklet detailing every single snack
that's inside the box, as well as some cultural tidbits about Japan, information about the
snack makers.
Ooh, I've never seen this before.
Banana Caramel Kit Kat.
Tokyo Treat's got exclusive flavors, like the Banana Caramel Kit Kat.
I love anything banana.
Need some tea.
Be right back.
Sakura Marshmallow.
Like a flowery cloud.
Sakura Hard Candy, exclusive hard candy.
Not typically into hard candy.
I love this so much.
There's also ramen.
Oh, check this out.
Pringles.
Cream stew Pringles.
I'm about to dump this whole can just directly into my mouth.
This is probably the milkiest Pringles I've ever had.
Alright, let's take a look at this Sakura Co. box.
So while Tokyo Treat's is more of the modern, fun, exciting, trendy snacks, Sakura Co. has
more of the traditional, authentic, artisanal snacks.
And every single box comes with a home item this month.
Chopsticks.
Beautiful chopsticks.
Of course, open the box, you get a booklet explaining all the snacks, snack makers, cultural
information about Japan.
Really a fun read.
Matcha Cream Daifuku.
Goes so well with cheese.
I already know this is gonna be one of my favorite boxes because I love going to dessert
shops in Japan and getting mochi and matcha tea.
And this month's theme is matcha and mochi.
Matcha Corrento.
Basically, matcha shrimp crackers.
Oh, this is so good.
It's sweet, so crunchy.
You taste that awesome quality in the matcha.
Even if these guys weren't a sponsor, it'd just be fun doing a video going through every
single item in these boxes.
And the biggest difference between these two boxes is that with Sakura Co., you're gonna
get 20 authentic, traditional, artisanal Japanese snacks and a home good item in every single
box.
Sakura Co. works with and partners with local Japanese snack makers who continue to share
Japanese culture and tradition that's been passed down for over 100 years.
And with Tokyo Treats, you're getting up to 20 most exclusive, limited edition, seasonal
Japanese snacks that are only available in Japan.
And I love the mission statement from this company.
They want to share Japanese culture through the medium of snacking.
Yeah, that's amazing.
So if you want to give this a try, go to my link down below.
Use my promo code Mikey for $5 off your first Sakura Co. box or your first Tokyo Treat box.
And make sure to order by April 30th to get this month's box.
Like I said, when these boxes come, favorite time of the month.
This is gonna be my breakfast, so I'm gonna continue snacking and enjoy the video.
Haven't walked around Flushing late at night in quite some time.
Such a good night to walk around.
See a little drizzle?
There's been a lot of Chinese barbecue skewers places opening up all over the place, all
around the country.
And a bunch of new ones opened up in Flushing.
Right here.
Sha Xian Snacks.
This looks good.
Try this place out later too.
Yeah, right here.
Ning Wen Barbecue.
Open till 2am.
If you ever come to these Chinese barbecue places, it's so good.
It's just a complete different type of barbecue.
Everything is cooked with cumin and chilies.
Barbecue leek.
That's amazing.
Whoa.
I think especially this place here, I asked for extra spicy.
That's freaking delicious.
Wow.
Also, highly recommend.
Large pork intestine.
Smells a bit funky, but when they barbecue it, it's crispy on the outside.
Melt in your mouth.
This might be the best barbecue pork intestine I've had at any Chinese barbecue place.
The flavor in this place is really good.
They just opened.
They're the only ones here.
This is freaking excellent.
And finally, well not finally, but before the next round gets here, gnocchi mushrooms
with pork belly.
Again, covered in chilies.
I like the fact that you can adjust spice level here, and they're spicy, it's actually
really spicy.
Yeah, this place is really good.
Wait till you see what's coming next.
This looks incredible.
First of all, they brought this whole sauna of a pot pot, and it's sitting in here.
Just full of chilies, sesame, scallions, fresh peppercorn sitting here.
Look at this.
About 30 skewers tied at the bottom, forming a little food teepee with everything you can
imagine from prawns to lotus roots to potatoes, sweet potato, corn, crawfish, beef.
I think there's eggplant in there too.
I see okra.
This is a lot of stuff soaking in this deliciously smelling broth of pure red chilies and peppercorn.
This is perfect for a rainy day.
Perfect.
I think that you don't really need much dipping sauce on this.
They do give you garlic or dried chilies, and I'm just gonna try the garlic one.
This is already good.
You really don't need much unless you really want to spice these skewers up.
Didn't go for the dried chilies.
Like I said, so many ingredients to choose from.
Some seaweed, large intestines, cooked in spicy boiling broth.
Ah, so good, so good, so good.
If you're a vegetarian, okra.
Dip that in some chilies.
Slimy, spicy, delicious.
It's so flavorful, at the same time, my mouth is on fire.
I walk home in the rain, it's gonna feel so good.
I think this is some sweet potatoes in here.
If you come here, I highly recommend just getting a pot of this.
Like whatever you want, whatever you're into, vegetables, tofu, meat, frozen tofu, this
pot's got it.
Little garlic, little extra chilies.
Oh, look at this cabbage.
This thing pretty much fell off the skewer, but look how drenched in chilies it is.
First night back in New York in a while, especially on a cold rainy night like this, couldn't
have picked a better spot.
That was so good.
It's still raining outside, body just feels warm and cozy.
Good first night back.
See you guys tomorrow.
Ooh, Tianjin Dumpling House.
This used to be on Main Street.
This place is awesome.
So this area, I mean, I haven't been here in a long, long time.
If you go down Casino Boulevard from Main Street Flushing, you get to this whole area
where there's a ton of amazing Asian food.
One of my favorite Northeastern places is here.
There seems to be a bunch of new places, like a Malaysian place right over there.
And this is a new place I just saw photos of, and I had to come and try it out.
Shanghai Eats, cash only.
As soon as I sat down, they came over and they told me that the number one thing here
is the Sheng Jian Bao, which is the pan-fried buns.
That's the reason why I'm here.
I saw pictures of that.
It looked amazing.
And they told me a fresh batch just came out, so if I want to get it, I gotta get it now.
So got that.
Got a bunch of stuff they recommended.
There's a curry beef brisket with fried tofu vermicelli soup.
They recommended the drunken chicken.
Also got some wontons.
Okay, so these are the pan-fried buns.
These are just magical little buns.
So right now, some scallion sesame on top.
The key is the bottom.
Look at that.
Beautifully golden, so toasty and crispy.
These things are not soup dumplings, but they're basically soupy buns because, again, if it's
done right, there should be a ton of soup in here.
So you want to be very careful eating these.
Just treat them like soup dumplings.
Put them on a spoon.
Little nibble on top.
Wow.
Check out what I'm seeing right now.
Look at the amount of soup in here.
Look at that.
Oh my goodness.
I feel like I need a bowl for this thing.
Luckily, I got a spoon underneath this thing.
There's so much soup in here.
Completely overflowing.
I'm gonna go take another nibble on top.
Mmm.
Oh, the soup is hot.
Super hot.
Usually, you should just be sipping from that little opening, but I want to get a better
look at what's inside.
Look at that.
Oh my goodness.
The skin is super thin, and the meat inside is just ginormous.
And the soup, a lot of it spilled out already, but soup, when I first opened it, was up to
here.
So when you open the bun, it's like a tsunami of broth just pouring out, and I got myself
some hot oil, and they put some vinegar in here.
White vinegar is not something you typically see, usually it's black vinegar, but let's
add this, and let's try the soup.
That's delicious.
I personally feel this will be better, even better with black vinegar.
I'm just asking them for that, but a little more hot oil, vinegar.
Oh my goodness.
I thought I took a big slurp already.
Still so much soup left in the bun.
Mmm.
Beautifully crunchy bottom, which is always a great sign.
These are excellent, little pan-fried buns.
Oh my goodness.
Light skin on top, super crispy on the bottom, filled with soup, filling is giant, it's meaty,
it's delicious, it's juicy, it's got good flavor.
Want a good breakfast?
This is a good breakfast.
The next item, this is the appetizer.
So drunken chicken is traditionally a zhejiang dish, which is not too far from Shanghai,
so all throughout that region, this is just a very classic dish, cooked in usually Shaoxing
wine, so you're gonna get a little bit of an alcohol flavor throughout the chicken as
you chew.
The chicken texture is chewy, yet extremely juicy.
Every single bite, you get that great aroma from the wine.
Otherwise, it's just such a refreshingly delicate dish.
If you like chicken, and you've never tried something like this, give that a shot.
Soup dumpling.
Let's see how this is.
Crab meat, pork, tons of soup, thin skin, all good size.
I just wish they gave you little bits of ginger, which they might if you ask for it.
Just like you can ask for the black vinegar instead of the white one.
But that is a beautiful looking soup dumpling.
Look at all the broth that's in there.
Holy moly, this place is seriously bringing the soup, the good soup, too.
The skin just melts in your mouth.
This is an excellent soup dumpling.
This place, like so far, everything I've had, so good.
Hot oil wonton, obviously classic.
If you're going to any Shanghainese restaurant, you gotta get some wontons.
Shanghai big wonton is a trademark.
Look at this thing.
Looks like the wrapper's pretty thin, and again, with this place, giant filling in the
middle.
Oh, this is good.
The skin is smooth, it's got a little bit of chew.
Inside is chi cai and pork, which is shepherd's purse.
In my opinion, the best vegetable to go inside wonton.
This I never, ever had before.
This is a beef brisket and curry vermicelli noodle dish.
Look at this.
Vermicelli noodles, thin cuts of brisket in here, and then fried tofu.
Alright, this thing, the curry flavor is a little light.
I feel like this definitely needs, at least for me, a ton of more flavor.
You taste a little bit of the curry flavor, not too much.
So I'm gonna add some vinegar, some hot oil, a little salt, actually, and some white pepper,
which always goes good in soup.
Like any Chinese soup you eat, I always recommend adding white pepper.
Much better.
I always enjoy exploring new places whenever I'm back in Flushing, and there's so many
different areas where restaurants pop up, and this is definitely a really good area
to explore.
If you're into Northeastern food, a lot of Northeastern restaurants here, a little less
busy than a whole Main Street area.
Seriously, some of the best Northeastern food I had in the city, around here.
In this place, if you come, 100% recommend getting the fried buns.
Like, get them as soon as they come out of the wok, best time to get them.
Don't wait till they get cold.
Soup dumplings are great, wonton's good, shrunken chicken's amazing.
It's a brand new Shanghainese restaurant, definitely worth giving it a try.
I got a bunch of the fried buns to go, because they have different flavors of fried buns.
They have a crab meat pan-fried soup dumpling.
I just noticed that, so I'm just gonna sneak one in while it's still hot.
These are little yellow ones.
Just like the other ones, filled to the top with meat and juice.
Look at that.
Oh yeah.
Add in some vinegar, some hot oil.
Oh, I definitely burned myself a little by that.
When you take a soup dumpling or a fried bun too lightly,
when you don't show it the respect it deserves, they will burn you.
The bottom is the best bite.
A little crispiness from the bottom of the bun,
that's also soaked that delicious juice that's inside the little dumpling.
Next time I'm here, that's all I'm gonna eat.
Just order a bunch of buns.
This is a new Thai restaurant.
It just opened up around the Mori Hill area here in Queens.
It's kind of bittersweet, because there was a Singapore place that was here that was really good,
so I was looking for that.
I'm gonna sell this place.
Let's give it a try.
Bo Thai bo ran, stir-fried rice noodles.
Okay, yeah, let's do that.
What else did you say was good?
Yeah, let's do that.
And then the lungs up.
Yeah, so for dessert.
Wow, you got the Ovaltine Volcano.
That sounds good too.
Oh, you got the Thai tea sizzling ratty.
That's the best, right?
Yeah, we need to get that.
They're so nice.
They sent over an appetizer.
Look at this.
This is called a gyoza.
Oh, here we go.
Wow, I missed this.
Let's talk about this for now.
This is called a gyoza.
It's a wonton wrapper.
Kind of looks like a crab ring.
Inside is fish balls, and you dip it in a spicy tamarind sauce.
That is delicious.
Crunchy wonton shell, super delicate.
Fish ball inside.
Already a great balance, awesome food combo.
And then dipped into the sweet and spicy tamarind sauce.
That's one thing I love about Thai food.
When they say spicy, they are not kidding around.
Texture's amazing.
The spices are amazing.
Actually, I love this tamarind chili sauce.
Mmm.
This is one of my favorite things I ever found in Thailand.
The Lung Zab.
It's basically pork backbone, fresh chili, cilantro, herbs, in a spicy Thai soup.
First of all, it's just a giant platter of meat.
That, if I remember, falls off the bone.
And I can already smell the aromatic spicy broth.
You want to get the pieces that are kind of soaked into this broth.
Look at that.
And what I love about this also is you're going to get a lot of marrow,
a lot of tendon cartilage inside the crevices of the bones.
And that stuff is such good eating.
Mmm.
A little bit of marrow right there.
Oh, that's good.
The soup, just like I remembered it, extremely spicy and sour.
My two favorite flavor profiles.
And that fits so well with the pork.
Every single piece, there's just so much different types in here.
And you definitely got to eat it when it's drenched and drowning in the sauce.
Mmm.
Meat is ever so tender.
And they're all meats around the bones, which makes it the most flavorful.
And don't let it fool you.
This soup is not a sporting cast.
It's definitely a co-star here because it's that good.
Take a bite of the meat.
Sip of the soup.
Oh, that soup is so good.
Extreme spicy, extreme sour.
This goes perfect with pork.
Oh, nice. Oh, that is beautiful.
Thank you so much.
This pad thai, first of all, has two ginormous prawns on there.
And the pad thai itself is enveloped in this, like, light eggy crepe.
Scallions, peanuts, sprouts, lime on the side.
Whoa, that's the steamed fish.
Oh, that looks awesome.
Thank you so much.
As soon as this fish came to my table, oh my goodness.
The hit my nose took from the aroma of the garlic.
Chili, lime, herbs, cilantro.
And look at this puree of just garlic and chilies and more herbs all over this fish.
It's freshly steamed branzino.
So I'm expecting something flaky and tender here.
But let me go back to this pad thai for a second here.
They told me this is their best seller.
You can see why.
Oh my goodness.
Just look at the size of this prawn.
Look at that.
Put that aside for now.
And just look at this beautiful pad thai.
Break the nest of the egg open.
Little splash of lime.
Here we go.
Mmm.
That's freaking delicious.
Put some tofu, some chives in here.
Noodles are chewy.
It's sweet, it's sour.
Ah, so good.
I gotta get into a bite of this.
They fried the legs over here too.
So you have a little crunchiness as well.
There you go.
These legs are like little shrimp chips.
You can probably just put this whole thing in your mouth.
Mm-hmm.
Let's go ahead and eat the whole shell.
Shrimp shell actually lowers cholesterol.
So keep it simple.
When they bring you a whole prawn, put the whole thing in your mouth.
Look at this.
Branzino, whole fish laid out.
Beautiful, white.
Flaky flesh of the fish.
That looks so amazingly scrumptious.
It's steamed too, so this thing is super healthy for you.
Put some of that into the garlic and chilies.
Highly recommend this if you come here.
The fish flavor is very, very mild.
The texture is just awesome.
With the garlic and chilies, it's just some next level stuff.
And also, look at this.
What do they have in here?
Ooh, look at that.
Oh, they put something in the bottom of this fish.
There's scallions and ginger.
Yes.
That is such a great move.
Scallion and ginger steamed fish.
One of my favorite things because it retains the natural great flavor of the fish.
And the ginger and scallions just kills off any of the bad part of the fish in there.
So this just tastes so clean.
Sizzling Thai iced tea, ice cream, over roti.
Also cornflakes in that as well.
I think I had this one time before in my life.
Come on, Thai iced tea, ice cream, cornflakes, roti.
So in this video, I really wanted to show the new restaurants around.
Flushing some love and food that I went to.
Absolutely knocked it out of the park.
Of course, their information is down below.
If you guys want to give it a try.
And as always, thank you all so much for watching.
Until we eat again, see you later.
