BASILICA OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Leaving the outskirts of the Seine, we go up to the Basilica of the Holy Spirit,
the favorite place of the Parisians for their Sunday walk.
The Basilica of the Holy Spirit rises at the top of the hill of Montmartre, north of Paris.
The basilica is quite recent, built in the 1980s,
although the style intentionally recalls the ancient Byzantine Romanesque architecture,
whose remains can be found in many parts of southern France.
The three-arched portico of the large facade is surmounted by two bronze equestrian statues
depicting two French saints, Giovanni d'Arco and St. Louis IX.
Moving away from the rest of the tourists,
we can still find quiet and fascinating places that characterize the area of Montmartre.
The best way to experience Montmartre is to take some time to take a walk along its streets,
letting oneself be slowly conquered.
A carefree attitude is the key to understanding the true spirit of Montmartre.
The large building has managed to maintain its original color, bright white,
but it is capable of polluting a large city like Paris.
It seems that this depends on the stones of Chateau Landon used to erect the basilica.
When it rains, the stones react to the water and release calcite,
which works as a whitening agent, keeping the stones very white.
