Hi guys, Chris here with the Base Camp Review Show, and today we're going to take a look
at the Leaky Micro Vario TI Cortec Trekking Poles.
Boy, that's a mouthful, isn't it?
And we're going to put these things together, take a look at them, I'm going to field test
them, and then we're going to find out if they're worth it.
Hey guys, Chris here, welcome to the Base Camp Review Show.
This is my new studio, I've been working on this, and what we're going to be doing is
we're going to be taking a look at outdoor products, backpacks, tents, trekking poles,
just about anything related to hiking, outdoors, that keeps you comfortable, safe, all like
that.
But it should be a lot of fun.
We're also going to do, just do some fun things, I've got some ideas planned, should be fun.
But let's take a look at these guys without any further ado.
The Leaky Micro Vario TI Cortec Trekking Poles, like I said, say that five times fast.
But these are really nice, they collapse down to about 15 inches, not even, it's just a
little under 15 inches.
Comes in a nice stuff sack, which I like, and these put together really fast.
They're Z style, and you can see, this is why they're called Z style, and they look
like a mess, don't they, it's like, what happened?
They came to a baggage claim like this, what did you do with my trekking poles, how am
I supposed to go hiking now, huh?
But not to worry, we have Kevlar cables that keep these guys together, it connects from
here to here, and here to here, you can see the cable, and we simply slide this into here,
slide this into here, like that, and open this up here, pull this out, and buys us a
little room.
And then we can pull this out here, and there's a button that pops out, see that?
Right there, a little button popped out, I'm going to do that one more time, look at that.
And these things are rock solid, once you do that, they are not going anywhere, you
don't have any joints with any adjustments down the shaft here, and you don't have to
worry about something loosening up, and then you, the trekking pole collapsing down on
you while you're going down a slope, or just down the trail.
Very nice, very lightweight, they go, the availability range is 43 inches at the lowest
point and 51 at the highest point, they have a rubberized and cork handle, the cork is
nice because when it gets hot, they stay kind of cool, and when it gets cold, they don't
get it, they don't freeze your hands, like hard plastic would, it's also got some rubberized
material here, there is a nice ball at the top, so when you're going down a steep slope,
you can put your hand on that and just ride it like that, instead of having to have your
hand like that, which is kind of awkward.
It does have an adjustment right here, for the strap, simply lift up on the strap here,
straight up, and now I can pull straight out to open this up and make that larger, or pull
this straight out, the extra strap, pull that straight out, and to snug it up, and
when you're done, simply pull down on it, put your hand to the bottom, come back around
here like that, and you are good to go.
They do have a flex, it's called a flex carbide tip on the end, I would recommend also adding
the rubberized, black rubberized, it's like a stopper on the end, and if you're walking
on hard surfaces, like sidewalks, slick rock, or rocks even, it's nice having that so you're
not taking this carbide tip into a rock, it gives you a little bit of flexibility there.
You can get snow baskets for these, these are not snow baskets, these are like for dirt,
mud, sand, these screw on and off very nicely, and I'm very happy with these, they did cost
me $140, $10 tax I had to pay, so it was $150, is it worth it, I think they are, I would
recommend these, what we're going to do right now, actually we're going to break them down
real quick, watch how fast we can do this, here's that ball, press that, close that,
go like that, and you are done, and then you can take this part, and take the adjustment,
and slide that down, and there you go.
Now it does have, see this here, this kind of rubberized, almost like fabric material,
as a secondary handle, so if you're on a side slope, you can slide down here, and then you
can do some quick adjustments with that, so you're not just stuck with just one handle,
so I found that to be real nice, but let's go take a look at this, I'm going to field
test them.
Alright, overall I really like them, they're lightweight, they're 18 ounces for the set,
I wasn't sure if it was for one or two, but it's for the set, they pack down really nice,
as you can see they fit really well in my backpack, 15 inches tall, the mud baskets
worked, you can see I got some mud on them, and they kept it from going up the trekking
pole here, which is cool, one of them did slide down right at this point here, and what
I had to do was re-pull it back out, and then adjust it with the wheel here, and then reset
it, and that seemed to really help it, so you do have to adjust that, overall, I really
like them, they give me some really good balance, I really feel like I can trust them, they're
really strong, I'm going to give them 5 hiking tracks.
Alright, welcome back, alright, it's been a good, it's been a lot of fun, the next
time on the review show here, we're going to take a look at the Gazetteer Road Atlas
series, and we're going to talk about why it's important to have one of these in your
vehicle on the way to the trailhead, or for a road trip.
Coming up, we're going to do a camping hammock, with the Cammock brand, I got a nice hammock
here, it's the Roof version, and we're going to check that out, do an overnighter and let
you know how that goes, and next up, we have, top 5 hiking memes, these are memes I found
on the internet, outdoor memes, hiking memes, and they're a lot of fun, so we'll take it
from the top, number 5, got period on first day of 6 day backpacking trip, that's tough,
number 4, oh you wear a north face jacket, you must go on so many adventures, that's
our good friend Gene Wilder, who passed away this last year, very funny man, number 3,
all hikers secretly desire to whirl like Julie Andrews when hiking through an alpine meadow,
that's actually true, I think most hikers do that, number 2, goes into wilderness and
dies, that's harsh, and the number 1 hiking meme, is they thought I was tired, I'm acting,
that's my favorite, that was good, that was good, alright well thanks for watching, I
want to thank Leaky Trekking Poles, and I want to thank World Wide Web for the hiking
memes, remember happy camping, and as always, keep hiking, thanks for watching.
