Also love spending the day eating at Japanese convenience stores. I have always heard that Lawson in Japan has way better desserts than 7 - Eleven. So wanted to try it out and see.
That's a big red bling.
This place has got some good stuff.
I don't even know what this is, but I want it.
Yes, two men and eggs.
Teriyaki chicken and soft-boiled egg sandwich.
Tofu, sure.
I don't even know what this is, but it just looks so cool.
It's like some kind of seafood pasta.
Desserts are actually where Lawson really shines.
So all these different types of pudding.
Oh, these are so good.
Mochi pudding.
Oh my god.
These are amazing.
Hoboken.
Zero calories, huh?
I'll give it a try.
Anything from Hokkaido, I love.
I guess this is like the special right now.
This massive mochi with a strawberry.
Heck yeah, I'll take one of these.
I swear, the sweets here are just insane.
So many things I want.
My basket is like almost all sweets right now.
Yeah, I want this.
Whatever this is.
This is just pure impulse buy right here.
You know what?
Let's just see what else I missed over here.
Okonomiyaki, huh?
Big plate of soba.
Seafish rolled potato salad.
I admit, I go a little overboard when I'm shopping at these convenience stores.
But 7-Eleven and Lawson, now we're ready to feast.
I still don't know what this is.
Looks like it could be good.
And while that thing is cooking,
I love soba.
It is one of my favorite things.
Cold soba in bonito broth.
Opening my chopsticks, learn my lesson the last time.
Still got a scar here.
This is a packet.
I think you're supposed to toss this onto the noodles.
It's to kind of loosen them up a little bit.
A little seaweed, a little scallion.
Mystery dish is done.
Oh, it's a risotto.
Did not catch that at all.
It's like a cheesy, seafood-y risotto.
You know what?
It's definitely not the greatest risotto in the world, but it's edible.
It's definitely not one of the best things I had at 7-Eleven.
And it's kind of flavorless.
I think it's mixed with cheese and some marinara sauce.
It's not gonna have good seafood, but the flavor is just kind of off.
It's not a bad flavor.
It's just kind of a tasteless flavor.
Although the soba lacks a lot of chew, this is still good.
The bonito broth, excellent.
I like this.
Don't like this.
My all-time favorite sandwich combo.
Tuna with egg.
Classic Japanese sandwich.
Egg salad, tuna salad.
I like taking a bite of one.
Right away, take a bite of the other.
I'll just mix a little soba in with my sandwich happiness.
No bad way to eat the sandwich.
I mean, creamy egg salad and creamy tuna salad on just the softest bread ever.
If that doesn't just make you melt inside, you need to get a puppy.
I wanted to try this.
This is the teriyaki chicken and egg.
And I really like this egg, because this is the soft boiled egg.
And this thing I love, and I usually like this with the egg salad sandwich,
because it gives you a much yolkier, eggier flavor.
So this is like a triple-decker sandwich.
Teriyaki chicken in one, soft boiled egg with egg salad in the other.
This is amazing.
It's like the 7-Eleven Cupid's arrow just pierced my heart.
I'll be honest though and say, I think they could have put anything on the teriyaki chicken side.
Like, I like the chicken teriyaki.
It's tender, it's sweet, not dry at all.
But mixed with the egg salad and a soft boiled egg?
That sweet teriyaki sauce creeping into the melty, delicious egg.
And the chicken provides just a tad change in texture.
I mean, the egg side is so subtle and smooth.
And the teriyaki side really brings the bang, you know?
Pork okonomiyaki with yakisoba.
While we wait for that...
What is this?
Ooh, it's a potato salad.
But I already bought it.
I have two potato salads now.
When I first saw it, I didn't think it was a potato salad.
Oh, I opened it upside down.
Oops.
Because I saw the eggs, I thought this was some kind of like a tempura thing or something.
Creamy potato salad with fresh scallions.
I'm gonna bring this out.
Spicy rice roll potato salad.
I'm gonna dump this onto the cap.
I mean, this looks a little funky.
Doesn't look the best.
Add it to my sandwich.
Spicy fish roll.
Wow, that fish roll definitely brought on the flavor.
You know that slight brininess and that great seafood flavor of fish roll?
It's all up in that potato salad's business.
What do we have back in the U.S.?
Like, potato salad with the skin still on the potato.
That's all I can think of right now.
These two types of potato salad.
Like here, you got scallions on your potato salad, you got fish roll on your potato salad.
You could come to this country and just write epic poetry about this potato salad every day of your life.
Alright, let's go check out my okonomiyaki.
I just wanna say, before eating it, this thing looks beautiful.
Pork okonomiyaki with yakisoba on the bottom.
Every time I eat an okonomiyaki, I feel so bad for destroying the perfect pattern of sauce on top.
I'm a fan of this.
I'm especially a fan of the yakisoba on the bottom.
Wow, that flavor is great.
Okonomiyaki is a bit soft, but the cabbage is still crunchy enough to make it not bad.
Oh, that flavor is so great with that nice Worcestershire sauce.
Hello, chili shrimp bun.
First impression, not great, huh?
You don't see a lot of shrimp in here, and you do see a lot of goo.
That's horrible.
Why is it so gooey and weird?
And the spice is nice, but what is this random paste?
Stick to the pork bun.
This- this is a failure.
This thing was a complete impulse buy.
I was by the checkout counter, and I was like, what is this?
Looks like red beans and some sort of cream inside.
A little bread.
I feel like it definitely has a lot of potential.
If there's a toaster oven, I think this would be excellent.
You toast the outside, because it's not good soft.
This is one of those breads that would be great heated up.
It's like creamy custard, sweet bean paste.
Flavor's excellent.
I just need a toaster oven.
So if you get this at Lawson, I think they have- maybe if they do, have them toast it up for you.
This is something I wanted to introduce you guys to, because this is amazing.
This is like a- like a choco bun.
It's called a hobokon.
It doesn't look like much.
It's kind of funky looking, like someone punched it in the face.
Little chocolate powder all over it.
Cream and chocolate on the inside.
You see all that?
And the outside is just great mochi type skin.
That chocolate powder is so creamy and chocolatey inside, with little bits of chocolate in here as well.
And the outside just got the perfect amount of chocolate powder.
My friend Lily introduced me to this thing when I came here in Tokyo.
Best find ever.
I would have never found it, because look at it.
It looks like a- like a little Debbie cake package.
Doesn't look like there's anything special.
And don't worry about this.
I'm going back to this.
I just need to try out- I just need to try some of this stuff out before I can just fully commit my mind to just taking this down.
This looks like such a pretty little chocolate cake.
Huh, I don't know if it's a good thing that this chocolate cake looks like it's just ran a 5k or not.
Oh, interesting.
Complete different shade of brown inside.
Yes, 100% yes on this.
Wait, maybe 80% yes.
Something just changed.
The initial flavor and texture is so good.
This whole thing just kind of breaks apart in your mouth.
And I don't know what they did, but after you break through the outer shell, the inside just completely crumples.
You can see some jam in there to kind of change the flavor up a little bit.
I have no idea what this is.
It just said tofu on it.
I got confused, so I got it.
It says Sister Tofu Store.
I saw the three ladies and they look like they're very professional.
So thinking this could be good.
I can't say this is good.
It's also not bad.
It just tastes like really thick soy milk.
It's like a really wet tofu or really solid soy milk.
So if you're into that, this is the drink for you.
Really want to try the zero-calorie thing out.
Could something with zero calories really be that good?
Chestnut flavored.
Looks very unimpressive, right?
Yeah, that's horrible.
Is it a pudding?
Is it chocolate?
Like, I can't believe I'm using this mystery tofu to wash the flavor of that thing out of my mouth.
Look at this pretty little thing.
Expensive for just one piece of mochi with strawberry and red bean.
I feel like there's something that you could propose to somebody with.
Like, hey, darling.
I just want you to know, I love you very mochi.
Ladies, would that work?
Love you very mochi?
Come on.
That's a big strawberry.
That's a big red bling.
Oh, yeah.
Ladies and gentlemen, if somebody ever asked you any question or any flavor and presented you with this,
the correct response is put that in my mouth immediately.
This strawberry is like a sweet geyser.
The mochi is some of the softest.
Look at that.
It's kind of just...
It's almost like it doesn't want to let go.
It's like very cold-dependent mochi.
This might just be Lawson's best dessert ever.
All right, a few more snack packs to try.
I feel like this stuff, I kind of know what they're gonna taste like.
This is just like, ooh, I wasn't expecting this.
Hokkaido.
Look at this pudding thing.
Oh, my God.
Heck to the yeah on this.
I don't know if this is at 7-Eleven, but go to Lawson and get this.
The milkiest of pudding.
The cake, ever so light, sitting on top of just all that's good in Hokkaido.
Oh, I love Japan.
All their stuff, you can get at a convenience store.
This stuff is better than most things you get in restaurants.
I guarantee you, try this out.
If this is not one of the best desserts you have ever had, restaurants included,
I'll come to your wedding and sing a Taylor Swift song.
I'm not gonna try these last two pudding cups thingies because nothing's gonna beat this.
This is the greatest thing.
All right, I gotta finish my breakfast, but this was a fun day.
I feel like every time you go into a new country, like for me, when I go anywhere new,
the first day and a half, like I don't want to go anywhere.
I just want to sit in my hotel room or my Airbnb and just kind of laze around, you know,
just kind of planning my week out, especially when I have more time in a location,
but be able to try so many things I haven't before.
And to be able to do it right here in my own private space, this is fantastic, guys.
And what's really great about trying more things is you're able to know what else is good.
And I'm really happy I found some really good things.
Hopefully, you guys can try them out.
Let me know how you like them.
But trust me, they're awesome.
Whatever I said was great, including like this.
Oh, so good.
All right, still got like two more weeks left in Japan.
So after today, we're gonna hit up a lot of different restaurants, a lot of fun places.
It's gonna be magical.
And as always, thank you all so much for watching.
Until we eat again, see you later.
If you're wondering what happens usually after the camera turns off,
how I met your mother, or Friends episodes, or Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or a particular anime,
we'll start playing on my laptop, and I just sit here, and I eat, and enjoy myself.
That is how I spend my day usually.
It may sound lonely to you, but for me, extremely enjoyable.
All right, see you later.
A few moments later.
Special update, this mochi thing, here's what it looks like, mochi cafe.
This is the greatest thing ever.
I mean, I already said that the other one was the greatest dessert ever, but oh my god.
It's got matcha, mochi, and pudding.
It's so good.
Head blown everywhere.
All right, that's it.
Another video.
Bye.
