What's going on guys, this is Noah with Northern Scavenger and today I'm going to be showing you guys one of my favorite backcountry meals, the backcountry bushwhackers oats.
In this there's about 1032 calories and you can get all your ingredients for bulk burn.
So this summer me, Alex, our other buddies Dave Green and Chris Jard are going to be doing a monster trip across Labrador.
The trip is expected to take about 35 days, so it's a pretty big trip and there's a lot of planning involved.
One of the big things is prepping and planning all our backcountry meals.
The breakfast that I chose to do for all my breakfast is my backcountry bushwhackers oats.
This is a combination of oats as well as other stuff that adds up to about 1032 calories.
So part of this is making this meal that is going to be big enough to withstand a day's worth of work on a 3000 calorie per day meal plan.
To start you want one cup of your favorite oats, quarter cup of cranberries.
Then I'm going to add a third cup of crushed walnuts.
So pound for pound walnuts has the most nutritional value in terms of fats and calories per any of the nuts.
So that's why I chose this and they also taste pretty good too, so that's a perk.
Then we're going to add a half banana.
Next let's start adding our powders.
So we're going to add a quarter cup of protein powder.
So you can choose a flavor, I'm going with chocolate, you can go vanilla, totally up to you.
Next, four tablespoons of powdered peanut butter.
You're not getting as many calories per tablespoon as you would with normal peanut butter.
So you have to add a little more to get that same amount of nutritional value.
Alright and now to finish this off I like to add a little ground flax seed.
This will get you above that 1,000 calorie mark and also it is a great addition because it has a lot of fiber in it.
As well as other micronutrients that will help you in your long days.
And that's it, there you have it.
If you can get this in your system in the morning I guarantee it's going to stick to your ribs.
And you'll be able to have long hard days on the water and in the bush.
Thanks for watching guys, hope you enjoyed.
Stay tuned until next time.
Bye for now.
