Welcome to Castle Combe, a medieval village with handful of houses situated in beautiful
Cotswolds. It's often called England's prettiest village and in my opinion it definitely deserves
this title. Today I want to take you for a walk through the village and share with you
the peaceful atmosphere of this place. This tiny village is one of my favorite places.
It's full of charm and history. I read somewhere that no new houses were built here since 16th
century and it does feel like time has stopped here 500 years ago. In the speed of modern life
I find places like this healing. Walking medieval streets among houses built centuries ago
makes me think about many generations of people who lived there.
Same walls and roof over their heads, different lives, each of them dealing with their own
problems and everyday struggles. All of them living their life and just trying to be happy.
This put things in different perspective. Sometimes we feel that our problems are
too much to take and things are so bad that it's almost unbearable.
Like the world is ending. But these 500 years old houses are still standing today and their walls
witnessed many broken hearts, many problems, injustice. Yet the world goes on. People heal,
move on, find solutions to their problems or forgive. And this is a really reassuring thought
for me that no matter what's happening, how bad things may be, the world will not end.
The sun will always rise and each day is a new chance for us.
Whenever I visit Castle Combe it amazes me how peaceful this place is. The chirping of the birds
and occasional bells from Santa Andrew's church transfer me to medieval times.
It's incredible to think that despite how much this world has changed over the last few hundred
years, these two sounds remain exactly the same. Every time I visit this village I feel even more
inspired to curate simple way of living. Be present in the moment rather than always rush to the next thing.
People who originally built this village had no mobile phones, cars or even street lightning.
Yet can we tell they were less happy than us today?
I think the key is to make the most of what we have. We have been given the amazing gifts
of technology, fast travel and modern medicine to enrich our life and make it safer.
Constant business, chasing money over complicating simple things became habits
or even values in today's world and this is the path I don't want to follow.
Recently I came across a quote that I find beautiful and true and I want to share it with you.
Aspire to lead quiet life, to attend your business and to work with your hands.
Thank you for spending your time with me. See you soon.
