Hello and welcome to sunny Tashkent. We are sunny. So last night we got back here on an
overnight train from Termez down on the afghan border. And last time we were here
when we were leaving it was nearly plus 40. Literally a week ago. And the weather's really
changed now it's nice and chilly it's like about 16 degrees really great. Yeah just how we like it.
So we came out to film and we're starting the day of course on Amir Timur square probably the most
famous square in the city. But to be honest we're going to hot step it straight across town in a
yandex to get something to eat because we are starving. Actually so as we're walking off from
the Amir Timur statue behind we tell you about last time we were here which was an evening
someone got slightly too close to the statue didn't they and the police. They're like taking
he just got i think he just stepped on the very edge of like the last step
too close to the statue and the police were like get down get down they were screaming at him
weren't they we were like oh my god we're not doing the same thing so we stood well back
someone's having a good day
nice hello
nice to see you hello how are they
and a caravan jizz please
okay
right food was really good we're feeling better we were off to explore a bit more of the city but
we're under a tree at the moment because it started spitting so
the first stop is the Tashkent metro which is supposed to be very beautiful let's take a look
that station is called cosmonaut la and we're not entirely sure if you're allowed to film inside
because it was forbidden for a while so if the footage is not great you know why but we're just
about to go in
try and be sly about filming
me
so this station is called cosmonaut la or cosmonaut which is soviet astronaut and all the
way along here you've got images of the different soviet cosmonauts like this one here which is
Alexey Leonov which was the first person to walk out into open space and he's actually from Kemerovo
which is our last stop we're heading upstairs to Chorsu bazaar for all places
right this is Chorsu bazaar which is the biggest bazaar in Tashkent and probably the biggest in
central asia it's pretty hectic there's all sorts going on there's all sorts of sections
let's go have a look around
because it's in the evening and it's too open
this is going on
so to be honest we got here a bit late it's only six o'clock
and it's supposed to close at eight but everyone seems to be packing up so we're actually going
to come back in the morning i think we'll do it more justice in the morning we can have a
chat with some people so we'll see you in the morning okay we're back at the bazaar
and let's try again almost got done by a barrier over there good start to the day
it's only up from here nice music lovely
this is one of the grandest bazaars in central asia it is massive
and it's not just this dome it's all the way around the edge but here i think it's just the
food part the outside we've seen clothes we've seen parts of food but here's mainly like meat
you can see noodles noodles everywhere fresh noodles so much there's so much i'm speechless
right now so much if only we had a kitchen that we could buy this food and cook it all in
just it's a nut section now
everything is sectioned here here we can see the meat section
there is dairy you can see people's action i've said that but here we have
all the dried fruit and nut section and there is so much
oh my god so this is one of the oldest bazaars in central asia and obviously one of the biggest
tashkent itself is the biggest city in central asia and this is the heart of the city everything
goes through here the place is pretty awesome it's been a place we've wanted to come for a while
obviously we've seen epic images of choosu here and yeah we want to come to a market that looks
like this pretty crazy it's the best thing i love it i don't know it freaks me out but i love
watching watching people like being invisible yeah that's the best thing about being up here
on like the balcony section you can just look over and just watch the craziness below you
without without being threatened with buying everything everything yeah because i feel
guilty when i'm buying leg of lamb please i'm such a pushover okay two yeah two gone two two's fine
the thing i wanted to say about the dome by the way is it really creates an atmosphere like it
helps the acoustics obviously the sound when people are shouting it you rise to the top
it's bouncing down it's really really atmospheric amazing
foreign
there's only so long you can keep whipping meat for so i'm going to head out to the fresh air
for a bit there's like another two kilometers of bizarre to go so i think we'll have time
foreign
i've got a bag already
foreign
so as you head out of the dome you get to the vegetable section and there's all sorts of grains
now we're heading down some more stairs and we're getting into the touristy souvenir section
which is good because it's our last day in uzbekistan and we need some souvenirs
foreign
We'll meet again for sure.
Goodbye.
Right, we just had a quick pit stop.
Now we're going to grab a cab and shoot across the city.
Hello.
Right my loves, we arrived at the place where
the oldest Quran in the world is.
Mind the step please.
I'm not, I'm too clumsy.
They are building a great mosque there.
We walked past it.
Well, and you can sort of see now
that it looks incredible.
We are so gutted that we can't see how it will look
when it's finished.
Well, we'll have to come back for it.
Just an excuse to come back.
So it has been quite overcast to be honest today.
But, right now in the evening
as we got here, the sun started to break through.
Which is perfect because
it reflects off here very beautifully.
It is so gorgeous.
Oh my god, I have got
something I can put on there.
What?
Yay!
Oh my god.
So comfortable.
Ta-da!
I mean, I think it's only supposed to be men wearing them.
You could be bucking the trend.
You're just
shitting on my fireworks,
Matthew.
Hello.
Is this where the Quran is being read?
How much is it?
25.
25?
Okay, so we ran out of cash
and we can't pay back hard here.
So Matt's going to go in
and tell me everything.
I'm going to watch the footage when I edit this video.
But yeah, it's whether
one of us or none.
So you're coming with Matt.
Let's go.
The kind man let Julia come too.
Oh my god.
I'm going to cry, I think.
I am crying, I think.
Right, to be honest, on that note,
on that incredible note, we're going to finish
this quick tour of Tashkent here.
Unfortunately, we didn't really have enough time to film
everything in the city. There's so much here.
It's such a giant city.
It is. The biggest city in Central Asia.
And there is so much to do.
There's the Tashkent Tower, by the way, which we did go up
when we came through here.
And that's an awesome thing to do. There's loads of museums.
There's so much more to see.
This was just scratching the surface.
Cannot wait to come back and do a lot more.
Yeah, and see the finished mosque.
Yeah.
Yeah, thanks for watching this video
and see you in the next one.
We're in a place called Karaman, and we're back with Matt.
I could have got changed
in the three hours I had to wait for you.
We don't talk that long.
See, you wonder why he was texting
so quick.
So this is
Kosmonauts.
Kosmonauts are the Soviet astronauts.
And...
Thumbnail.
Hello, mate.
