Daily Life on A Boat

Okay recording Cleo Nope, not interested Super chill chore day here on board and basically we're trying to conserve our energy Super low-key because we're leaving tonight Taking curiosity to a new anchorage New whole set of islands. Yeah, I guess it's part of the same island. No, it's part of the society thing. Little Leeward Islands. That's where we're headed. Remember that time we were sailing across the Pacific Ocean and our traveler shattered? Basically this entire piece Just ripped straight out of the traveler and the traveler is the only thing that can hold the boom Now we have the new part and we figure it's best to install it before we head out It's a simple swap, but if you go losing your balls, the whole thing is useless I'm on ball duty Okay, we okay Sweet That should not be so stressful Dear aquatic life, I love you, but please stop trying to take over my home Nobody likes a hairy bottom, but it's better than a crusty bottom Just like the landscapes and culture the marine growth changes as we move about in Ecuador The barnacles were like zombie pirates. We'd scrape them off, but they just kept coming back Now we have soft furry creatures that after a week or more start to resemble the old shag carpet. I had in my room growing up Puffer. Oh gotta go the turtles back. I'm swapping our dinghy from cruising mode to offshore mode It gets minion up higher and we lock and strap her in so she's out of the way in case we get big seas It always blows my mind how long it takes to get curiosity prep for passage It's just an overnight sail, but we never want to assume mother nature's gonna go easy on us well so much for our Relaxing conserve energy day. We ended up kind of doing projects all day. I thought that it was hard stuff. But anyway Looks like we've got 10 to 15 knots of wind tonight So it's not gonna be a lot considering that it's a downwind sail. I think it's gonna be a spinnaker night and And chill for the most part unless something exciting happens. That isn't predicted at the moment hang out for a couple of hours Take off 9 o'clock, maybe? Sounds good to me. Let's get there around 9 o'clock tomorrow Maybe? Have to race a little bit so I can see the reef. Okay, hold on Two shooting stars Beautiful I wish you could all be here with me I wish I could catch the stars Catch the stars If I can afford it I'm gonna buy it It is 1.47am We've had a steady like 18 to 20 knots Just cranking So it feels really good Didn't really sleep much I think I'm just too excited to be out here I can hear You know Everything going on down there And I keep feeling a surfing And a dropping It feels too exciting so yeah It was just sleeping for me But I'm happy to be out here It's odd how good it feels To be sailing And I don't know why I'm surprised every single time But I am It's just Such a happy place It's calming There is a reason people keep doing this It's not When it's good, it's good My absolute favorite time of the day The sun is just Starting to come up over the horizon The colors are starting to change The ocean is getting that Gorgeous deep blue color And I feel Accomplished Like we did something It's just a sail overnight It's not that big of a deal I feel like starting the morning With that Je ne sais quoi Something that's like I can't put my finger on it I feel like we did something Okay maybe the other reason I love this time of day Is I know Niki is going to make an awesome breakfast But the color is pretty too I'm fairly certain This is going to be a terrible idea No, not for you Probably not the best idea To try to make fried eggs When you've got a side swell But hey This is what you do when you wake up and you're tired And you want an egg sandwich So we're having egg sandwiches Ruly or not It worked Hey That's my sandwich No, no, no Okay Time to eat Yes You know it's good cause it's messy The egg sandwich In your face Alright here we go That is so nerve wracking Every single time I think we got it up Just in time to take it down Don't film me right now It is such a debate In situations like this Whether or not to even bother We could have just Jibed Once, well twice more To get us to our destination But it would have taken twice as long Or we could hoist the spinnaker And get there twice as fast More direct route Or we could just kick on a motor Bring all the sails down And it's going to be motor boaters And of course when you're tired And it's kind of hot You're thinking of motor boaters And the sailor in you says You can't be that lazy So we pull down all the sails Take the effort of getting the spinnaker out Get it up and flying And of course we've only got Seven to eight nautical miles Left to go so it will only be up for an hour But it's an hour And we'll be there Let me say something Okay Put it out there Anybody who's ever gone on a road trip When you're really really close to being there Now imagine you decide to Okay I'm just a couple minutes away I'm going to jump out of the car I'm going to do a hundred pushups I'm going to run around in circles Sweat, do all this work, change a tire And then I'm going to get back in the car And drive the last few miles That's what it's like When you decide to take down all the sails Put up the spinnaker on the last few miles That's what it feels like Changing a tire after running around in circles But it's so worth it It's a beautiful sail I think that might be a slight Exaggeration But we'll give it to him in a moment Land ho You're supposed to say land ho Oh land ho No, Mawaini, I think Mawaini We'll get it before we leave Ride it honey Squall Might get a free deck rinse Watch it'll pass right by us And we'll get like three sprinkles Just enough to really like settle the dirt in Come on big brain Big brain Mawaini's big brain Tough The radar's not showing red anymore I think that might be All you're going to get is a little sprinkle Hello governor Oh man, we're almost there Thank goodness She's losing her mind It's one overnight sail I'm not losing my mind Just in a good mood Anchor time Those clouds are not Going to make it easy to see bommies And the wind's not very helpful Either Fourteen, that looks like it goes To Around ten And then further back looks like seven So I think the depth Is there, I think with It's just the coral heads we'd have to worry about Getting wrapped up around our chain So we could always float it Did we drag? A little bit Going for a dive? Not super confident about the anchor It kind of did this a little bit Before it hooked, which usually means It's this much sand And a bunch of rock So we're going to go dive, see if we see any bommies See if we see any Anything we don't want underneath us Or maybe something we do I saw a couple eagle rays right when we Dropped the anchor Maybe we'll see more I have a camera And you have a camera We're going to go see stuff Pretty sure I just Botched that, but anyway Have fun Going into That's super wiped I did not sleep last night So I think I'm going to struggle just to stay awake For the next couple hours But I can do it Okay, how cold is it? Two? Twa? Rain Woo Run honey Run Woo It's the drip dry process Uh The anchor looks like it is just In a little bit of sand And it's hard underneath So Not an ideal spot, but it will work fun For today We will move tomorrow, we can paddle around Scope it out Maybe we'll get some sunshine It's a little late in the day It gets hard to see bommies So I say Anchor alarm, shower Movie, bed Glass of wine?
