Something else I discovered about this trip to Thailand is that there is no direct flight
to Thailand, at least from New York.
So I have to fly first to Tokyo, then to Thailand.
And the whole trip is going to take me 25 hours just to get there.
Hello.
Thank you so much.
I love it when lounges have a fountain.
Alright, let's go check out what really matters.
The food.
The food is just meh.
But I'm okay with that because I know there's going to be some good food on the plane.
I love they have a little introduction here just in case you never had an orange before.
I think this is a different plane than the one I was on last time.
Push. Okay.
Got a mailbox.
Slippers. Headphones.
Goodie bag.
I think this is a new and improved bag.
I think this is an older airplane model than the one I flew to Japan on.
It's got a nice big screen.
Oh, and the food tray is here.
Service on this airline is always awesome.
As soon as I got to my seat, someone came by and introduced themselves.
Now I'm just going to get settled and wait for my favorite book, you know, the menu.
My favorite book is here.
What this flight does is it offers you typically just two choices.
A Japanese menu and an international menu.
So in addition to my Japanese menu, I also got a pulled pork sandwich and an aki tofu soup.
And I got the awesome ramen I had last time.
So yeah, my typical meal and a half.
Thank you.
One thing I love about this airline is how beautifully crafted their foods are.
This looks like crab wrapped in a little cucumber.
And this looks like a little mushroom salad.
And I think this is ham wrapped in honeydew.
That's interesting.
Very refreshing.
Wow, I was not expecting that.
I thought the crab and the cucumber was sitting on top of maybe a daikon.
But that was a mango.
That crab wasn't imitation crab.
That was real crab meat.
This little appetizer, that was really refreshing.
My ramen and my pulled pork sandwich.
Whoa.
Caramelized onions on top.
They brought this to me and they took it away because the turbulence was so bad.
I was afraid this thing was going to get all over me.
This is definitely the best bowl of ramen I've had, you know, this close to heaven.
I feel like whenever I get food, it's whenever the turbulence starts.
I think somebody out there just don't want me to eat.
Little pickled vegetables.
Fish.
Rice.
And miso soup.
Yeah, I'm going to drink that miso soup right now before this thing ends up all over my lap.
Sorry, everything is so shaky.
The turbulence is crazy right now.
This is the fish.
It looks like ginger on top.
This is a mackerel.
Look how flaky that is though.
Cheers.
That's some restaurant quality stuff.
Wonderful ginger taste.
The meat is so flaky and nice.
I think I especially love that sauce.
It's a soy sauce based sauce.
I think I have officially eaten myself into a food coma.
You know what?
That's not a bad thing.
Good night.
This is Yuki and Rio, flight attendants on ANA.
And they're so nice.
You guys are so nice.
They made this for me.
First of all, beautiful flowers.
And then a beautiful fruit plate.
Is this candy?
Candy.
Candy?
Oh, thank you.
Oh, nice.
Wow.
Did you fold this?
Yeah.
Wow.
This is so cool.
You guys are so nice.
Thank you so much.
This airline is awesome.
Who does this?
This is so pretty and thoughtful.
Yuki and Rio, thank you guys so so much.
I'm speechless.
This is the coolest thing anyone has ever done for me on a flight.
Didn't think I'd be back in Japan so soon.
I have half of mine just to walk out of the airport.
Because I love this country so much.
My layover in Tokyo is going to be about three hours.
So that worked.
Got a bunch of green tea.
What I need now is just like a massive bowl of ramen.
This looks good.
My soba's ready.
This is awesome.
I love this little pepper sauce.
And they have hot oil here.
I got some Japanese clam chowder.
I got soba noodles.
This looks really yummy.
Chicken curry.
The food in this lounge looks really really good.
I love these little miniature vinegar packs.
They're really good.
I'm going to try the soba.
It looks great.
The flavor is really good.
The noodle is a little soggier than I like.
But the soup is great.
I mean I don't know.
It probably came out of a packet.
But this tastes really good.
I feel like I'm wasting a lot of valuable stomach space on like airplane food.
Alright guys.
I'm going to finish all this up.
Not too much.
Three hours short layover.
Then I'm off to Bangkok.
And I am flying Thai Airways.
And I'm going to be flying business class.
So I'll show you what that looks like.
First impression.
I really like it.
The food looks really good.
Spicy chicken salad.
Ooh larb.
I love larb.
Roast duck red curry with pineapple.
Pineapple.
Stir fried asparagus with garlic.
Wow.
I'm not even hungry.
But I'm getting excited about this.
The leg room is probably one of the smaller ones in business class.
But here's what I'm really excited about.
There is a massage option on the chairs.
Okay I don't think this works until the plane takes off.
But I can't wait to try that.
Alright this is really interesting.
The seat belt of these seats are like car seat belts.
It feels safer but a lot less comfortable than regular airplane seat belts.
One thing I noticed because I was sitting here.
And I was just thinking something is different about this plane.
And I realized what was different was that it was so quiet.
It almost felt like I was sitting in a library right now.
And I don't know whether that's because I'm sitting in a specific section of the plane.
Or it's just the plane itself.
But it's really quiet in this plane.
Okay let's try out that massage button.
Something is happening behind me but I can barely feel it.
Okay I feel the pressure on my lower back.
But it's kind of like being massaged by a couple of kittens.
It's adorable.
But it's just not enough pressure.
I feel a little more now.
It's going up my back.
Another way I can describe it.
It feels like one of those massage chairs.
That sharper image.
That is somehow operated on AA batteries.
And it's just running out of power.
I mean I do appreciate the effort.
And I love the concept of the massage button.
I guess it's better than nothing.
This bathroom I feel is a lot smaller than other business class bathrooms.
It's prettier.
It's got all these beautiful flowers.
And got like a little perfume in here.
And it doesn't really have a lot of the toiletries you see in the Japanese airline.
Or the Taiwanese airline.
But it does have a plug.
What is cool is that they gave you actual towels.
A little salt pepper shaker.
It's okay.
Fish is a little dry.
A little bean salad.
Mung beans.
I've never had this in salad form before.
Mung beans with mustard.
Oh this is really good.
This is the main dish.
It looks like some sort of egg omelette with green and red peppers.
And some cucumbers inside.
And this is prawns in chili sauce.
I love Thai rice.
Oh that's lovely.
The pepper and cucumber is nice and crunchy.
Shrimpy taste in the eggs.
Didn't look like it was going to be that good.
But that's really tasty.
Very very excited about this.
That was just okay.
I feel like the sauce is a little bit too sweet.
The prawns are cooked well.
Nice and springy.
I mean it's okay.
I feel like the egg dish definitely tastes better than the shrimp dish.
Which I never thought I would ever say.
Well this is really cool.
This is ice cream with it looks like jelly beans inside.
I mean I'm sure those are not jelly beans.
But look how pretty this is.
I'm still mystified.
Oh I know what this is.
This is heart of palm.
Ice cream is definitely Thai tea.
Thai tea.
But I'm pretty sure this is heart of palm.
That is wonderful.
Thai Airways definitely outdid themselves with the ice cream.
I've been outside and it's already hot and steamy inside the airport.
I'm really scared.
I always feel sort of rich when I exchange like US dollars for Asian currency.
Because you get a lot.
In online countries like Korea and Japan I heard the Thai money actually goes a long way.
So I'm not spending like you know a thousand yen on a bottle of water.
Woah it's 11 o'clock at night and this is a seafood barbecue buffet.
And it's still hopping.
Woah this hotel is nice.
It's got it's own washer dryer.
Little mini kitchen.
Very modern design.
Living room is pretty small.
Let's see if we got a view.
Ooh we got a balcony.
Sort of a view.
Ooh got a robe.
Little bedroom.
And the free snacks.
Woah bathroom is nice.
This automated toilet.
What?
Oscillating pulsating rhythm.
I will try these and probably not let you guys know what they do.
Very clean.
Very modern.
It's got all the Asian toiletry goodies I like.
Oh this is cool.
There's a bathtub that's inside the shower.
Hotels are definitely not that expensive in Thailand.
I think this room.
This is a suite.
I think I paid $100 a night for.
Anyway so I'm finally here.
I'm finally in Thailand.
I'm so excited.
It did take a long time.
But I'm so excited to start eating tomorrow.
I did drive.
It's like 11.30, 12 o'clock right now.
And there's still tons of places open.
Little food stalls that are still open.
I saw on the drive over to this hotel.
So I can't wait to start exploring.
Alright guys so I'm going to go to bed.
Because I did not sleep a single wink on the plane.
I'll see you tomorrow.
