And welcome to Major League Baseball International special
presentation of the 2022 World Series from Minute Maid Park in
Houston.
We're back in Texas for game six of this World Series.
The Phillies up against it.
The Astros one win away from a championship leading this
series three to two.
Kyle Schwarber's had good at bats up and down the series.
Hoskins real Muto.
Bryce Harper the DH once again in the cleanup spot.
Castellanos look at his postseason numbers.
How about that ERA one point strike thrower to twenty four
strikeouts only six walks deadly curve ball.
He's been on point brilliant in game to be the guy for game
seven behind the plate.
And that is no swing a ball off the plate inside of the Phillies
get a big break a walk to Schwarber and from Bravado as I
think he's still thinking about that to strike pitch.
Yeah it's a really good pitch.
Why not use it a little more.
Hoskins first pitch swing grounded to third Bregman gets
the out of second that's one at the double play on a turn by
the Astros two down you know for a guy that throws so hard
Valdez when he's on he's going to do a lot of ground balls.
If you're Dusty Baker and a fan of the Astros you have to like
what you see off the inside of that actually hit him hit him
in his foot or his thigh.
That's a base runner for the Phillies.
Yeah one way to get out if you're a real Muto behind it
to count one and two Harper on the ground and a nice play the
shortstop playing on the shift.
Jeremy Pena got to his feet and throws him out.
And the Astros defense had a great start to this game.
The first out to beat Jeremy Pena has had such a great World
Series just made a terrific defensive play.
Alvarez playing in left field for game six Bregman Tucker
Christian Vasquez he's the D.H.
Look at that E.R. Ray in the postseason to sixty seven he
touched on it a little bit of a
clunker and his first start here in the World Series.
If Wheeler can get ahead with that heater and expand with
that curveball it could be a good night one to two base
strikes out swinging and that one at ninety eight miles an
hour.
Man for the Phillies what a great start for Wheeler on the
ground is short coming in to field at that Sosa throws out
Jeremy Pena out number two Alvarez with two down and
nobody on he flies one to left center field Schwerber is there
and he'll reach up and make the catch.
So that's a seven pitch inning and for Zach Wheeler a totally
different start to this game than in game two.
Flanders throws in a fastball for strike three.
Now that's what happens when you start to look for that
curveball but you get it about the fifty one foot area you've
got to cover the curveball that's about seventy nine miles
an hour.
Alec Bowe not waiting around a line drive back up the middle
for a base hit.
Alec Bowe has had himself a very nice series.
That's the first hit for the
Phillies.
Segura takes a curve for strike
three.
Go ahead and turn him loose.
I don't call the ball.
So now this didn't squeeze just a little bit here.
I mean those are borderline pitches not guaranteed strikes
but Sosa hits a high fly ball left field Alvarez going back
still going back in front of the
wall.
He will make the catch just to the right of three sixty six
Sosa gave it a ride.
Oh so close for the Phillies.
Bregman been hitting high velocity in the playoffs.
This time he gets tied up on the
inside fastball Sosa Scott throws him out.
Wheeler being very deliberate three to his low ball for I say
low really more inside.
Kyle Tucker draws the walk.
He's the first Astros base runner of the game Vasquez on
the ground a short Sosa over to his right has it a little
bubble gets the out of second Segura the arm strength to turn
the double play.
Now Sosa had just a tiny bit of a hard time getting that ball
out of his glove and it didn't matter the pitch from Valdez
Schwerber takes strike three called Manny frozen with three
straight fastballs after falling behind two oh you almost get the
feeling that Schwerber was hunting a breaking ball that
at best.
Meanwhile he's just been ready to go.
Curve strike three.
Get locked Hoskins up there to two real Muto strikes out
swinging on that curve.
That's the first swinging strike three for from Valdez.
He strikes out the side Schwerber Hoskins and J.T.
real Muto to two Mancini line drive base hit right field.
So he does take it the other way and Trey Mancini has got
himself a World Series hit Mancini leads away from first
not going three to another broken bat it's a comebacker
Wheeler does a great job of feeling it got the out of
second not in time.
Segura's return to first man there was a lot going on the
barrel of the bat was flying by Wheeler had to avoid that field
the ball spin around he had two infielders converging the one
one Aminato softly on the ground toward third going to be a tough
play ball scoops it up and throws just in time to get the
catcher running Maldonado.
This might be a time to try that breaking ball that big
sweeper down and away to two went with the fastball and
struck him out.
Well pitch ninety eight with a lot of down and in movement with
the fastball right in under his hands now stands back up long at
the top of the bat here three two is strike three called and
Castellanos can't believe it.
Yeah.
Frambois Valdez has had about four or five pitches not go his
way but he catches a break on that one right there I think
home drives it to right field it's not a strikeout but it is
out number three Kyle Tucker for the catch with a chance to
clinch Jeremy Peña leads off the bottom of the fourth against
Zach Wheeler first pitch swing and another base hit for
Jeremy Peña.
Trevor hustles over and scoops it up Peña as a board to start
the bottom of the fourth man has he been good Alvarez a pop up
shallow center Sosa his back one away Wheeler another oh two
and he got him with the breaking ball through that curveball for
strike three two down Kyle Tucker stands in Tucker had the
best at bat the first time through this time though it's
going to be a one pitch at bat
charging Zagora got him at first that is out number three
so Zach Wheeler works around that lead off single by Peña
ground ball hard hit but to second Altuve throws out
Zagora Bierling swings away 3 1 bounces it to second Altuve
throws it out to Sosa goes down swinging man the curveball in
the dirt Maldonado puts the tag on for strike three that's about
what you're going to get the rest of the night Vasquez
chopper over the mound.
Zagora has got it.
He throws out Christian Vasquez
Phillies still only have the one
hit Alec Bones single Astros have to Mancini goes down
swinging went back to the curve.
Talk about a game of inches that
ball's a couple of inches higher.
He doesn't make that play to
McCormick strikes out swinging.
What was that I was saying about
Wheeler not getting the strikeouts.
He just blew away both Mancini and
McCormick and he had an 11 pitch
inning.
We go to the sixth two to four
bird drives one to right field
Kyle Tucker looking up it is
gone.
The first run of the night it's
another Kyle Schwarzer home run
his sixth of the playoffs and it
puts the Phillies ahead one
nothing.
Well it seems like the bigger the
stage it started in 2016 when he
was wearing a cub uniform this
virtually all the season came
back for the postseason put the
Cubs on his back and he's come
up with some big hits for the
Phillies and it almost feels
like that's impossible.
Frambois Valdez in the regular
season against left handed
hitters gave up one home run.
Most lefties aren't that guy
Hoskins swings away a little
swinging but Bregman charges
barehand Bregman got him what a
play.
I didn't think he had a great
chance to make that play.
J.T. real Muto to the change up
for strike one.
Muto to Bregman a little more
routine goes off the speedy
catcher two down Harper strikes
out swinging curve ball got him
ninth strikeout for Valdez who's
just been brilliant tonight and
yet one mistake pitch hammered
by Kyle Schwarzer who would
blink first.
It really wasn't even a blink.
It was just a blast.
Don't have to give him up in a
hurry.
I would imagine it's Alvarado
for that exact scenario.
Now Maldonado gets hit and J.T.
real Muto is arguing Maldonado.
He leaned in to those calls in
this World Series.
Rob Thompson may also be arguing
if maybe the ball hit the bat he
wants to challenge it didn't hit
the bat it definitely hit his
elbow guard.
I think that's exactly what Rob
is arguing.
And I know that that is
reviewable part here with
Maldonado Dave right as his ball
was starting to get closer to
me almost back away from it.
We lose two to a ground ball one
to second once a year and not it
just wasn't hit hard enough.
He was way closer to the plate
this time up and he got hit
Pena up the middle.
Pena's got another base hit to
base sprints around second
heading for third.
The throw is going to go to
second.
And Jeremy Pena has pushed the
tying run to third here in the
sixth inning with another hit.
What do your point that
fielder's choice being able to
get Maldonado the lead runner
out what a job by Zach Wheeler
Phillies needed him to come up
big and he has a performance by
Zach Wheeler but in a do or die
game even with the pitch count
at seventy one Rob Thompson's
feeling like he has to get his
best match up here against
Jordan Alvarez.
And so the Phillies are going to
the bullpen.
He's been so good the month of
October they need him to be good
one more time to one.
Perez to deep center field
feeling all the monstrous home
run from your down Astros ahead
three to one Schwerber hit the
homerun in the top of his sixth
inning Jordan Alvarez a three
run shot here in the bottom half
Ness Bregman draws the walk and
this one in the dirt kicks away
from real Muto Alvarado is just
coming apart now pitch moves
Bregman into scoring position.
Tucker strikes out swinging
Sergio Anthony Dominguez now
takes over the lead is gone it's
three to one Astros Jose
Alvarado gives up the three run
homer plus a walk in a wild
pitch that would pull him into
the base hit Bregman coming
around third Schwerber drops the
ball.
The score Christian Vasquez the
designated hitter to makes it
four to one Astros a base hit by
Vasquez to drive in Bregman up
the middle on the ground.
Segura's got it on the backhand
across the body throw and a
great pick by Hoskins for round
number three.
But the Astros down one nothing
off the mat.
Jordan Alvarez with one of the
great swings in the history of
this franchise massive monstrous
home run that put the Phillies
behind three to one and then the
Astros added another one after
that Castellanos waiting for the
one to pitch.
He pops it up by second Altuve
going back.
He wants it to go with one for
two.
One of two Phillies hits Boehm
strikes out swinging to got it.
He threw the splitter and Hector
Neri's against his old team.
All the emotion pouring out the
Astros are six outs away from a
World Series championship.
They could taste the World
Series title now.
Zach Eflin takes over for the
tenth time in these playoffs
about your bullpen usage.
You've got a guy in Wheeler that
was throwing the ball so well
Eflin strikes out McCormick
not that I was not quite as
close to the plate in this.
Funny how that works in this
plate appearance he flies one to
left move to down to two pulled
into left field Altuve is going
to get himself a hit.
He had decided to stop and then
Schwarzer dropped the ball hurt
himself for what I was sure he
was going to go for second.
I guess he's all right.
Oh two got him with the curve
ball.
So not this time for Jeremy
Pena.
He goes down swinging and now
they give the ball to a guy who
has just turned into the
ultimate weapon in their
bullpen.
Look at those playoff numbers
about that.
He Ray he doesn't have one.
They could get on base.
Bryson Stock lines one to third
and it's caught by Bregman who
was playing in I bounce to go.
Yeah a couple of things that
show up every day with the
Astros the bullpen and their
defense Bregman has had a
terrific series not only with
the bat with the glove Mars to
the right center field.
Big part of the ball park the
one to Schwarzer goes to but
with two strikes he pops it up
and it's strike three.
And the Phillies are retired in
the eighth inning and during
this bottom of the eighth
inning Ryan Presley is going to
start to get ready in the
Astros pen David Robertson's
had a nice postseason for the
most part for the Phillies.
Her ball struck out Alvarez.
Yeah that's the car he struck
him out three times in his world
series on that same pitch.
Bregman pulls that one into left
field so Alex Bregman gets
himself a one out hit.
Borders throw to second the
time he is safe.
See he goes in head first.
Segura places that tag.
Did he get the finger before any
other part of the hand got to
the base.
Maybe I think he did by like a
fraction of an inch.
I think Bregman's out.
And maybe the leader of this
whole Astros team Alex Bregman.
Yeah he's had a great
postseason.
For a pop up left center.
Schwarzer makes a call and the
catch.
So here we go.
Three outs of life left in the
season for the Philadelphia
Phillies three outs away from a
championship for the Houston
Astros on to the ninth here in
Houston.
Here the Astros are three outs
away from their franchise's
second world championship.
Hoskins a fly ball shallow
right.
Kyle Tucker two outs to go.
That's the first here in the
ninth.
Muto line drive center field and
that's going to get down base
hit.
Those two at least get the tying
run to the plate here in the
ninth inning.
He swings at the first pitch and
pops it up.
Jordan Alvarez waiting for it to
come down.
Number two and the Astros are
one out away.
Muto runs Castellanos is it
playable Tucker coming in Kyle
Tucker is going to get there
make the catch the Houston
Astros are the twenty twenty two
World Series champions field
celebrating in the dugout.
One guy who's getting all the
hugs.
There he is at that see there in
that dugout in Dusty week
trustee Dusty Baker the second
World Series title in Astros
history one that for all these
players coaches front office
members they feel is a
validating championship and the
magical run for the Phillies has
come to an end.
There is a lot of people around
the Astros feel that by winning
this World Series and help
vindicate the World Series
Championship of 2017 with all
the controversy with the trash
and the backhand gate.
A.J. Hinch losing his job
Jeffrey Luneau losing his job as
the general manager.
They were the best team in the
American League and they proved
they they're the best team in
baseball in twenty twenty two
and that man Dusty Baker all
those wins two thousand and
ninety three of them nine
division championships three
pennant wins for Dusty and now
at long last as a manager a
World Series title.
We talk a lot about that big
swing from Yordan Alvarez but
kudos for Amber Valdez was
brilliant himself six innings of
one run baseball two walks nine
strikeouts went toe to toe he
and Zach Wheeler put on a
pitching display for six
innings for most of these
players they were not here in
2017 only five holdovers from
that championship team to this
one the Astros celebrate and I
hope that Dusty celebrates
forever and ever look at that
Justin Verlander you know
there's a call we had a chance
to meet with Dusty the managers
meeting this afternoon Dave
around four fifteen and there
was just a calm over Dusty a
little bit more business like
than he had been through the
first five games usually when we
walk in we sit down he's ready
to crack some jokes but he was a
little bit more serious this
afternoon 106 regular season
wins for Dusty's team and now a
World Series title and he was
not he's been a part of a lot of
great teams but he was not on
the twenty seventeen champion
team Dusty wanted to finish it
off by writing down the final
out got to take care of every
last detail yeah hopefully
dusty that toothpick didn't
swallow that toothpick getting
pounded on there.
