It was only two and a half years ago after a tiring five-year renovation and restoration
that Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes claimed she would be staying put at her Hancock
Park mansion.
She told Architectural Digest that this is the estate her daughters will grow up and

Shonda snagged this home in 2014 for $8.8 million, but is now hoping to sell it for
a whopping $25 million after all the work she's put into it.
Aside from this sprawling mansion, Shonda is no stranger to Hancock Park neighborhood,
also owning a handsome English Manor home here, another house she sold for $7.2 million
and more.
Wait till you see all of the insane features in her homes.
You might be surprised at what you get for $25 million.
In these videos we don't reveal any addresses and even though I've done a house tour of
my own place, please do not show up at any private residences because it's not safe
for anyone.
Shonda Rhimes is a TV producer, screenwriter and author best known as the showrunner and
mastermind behind the successful medical drama series Grey's Anatomy.
She's the creator, head writer and executive producer for the show, as well as its spinoff
Private Practice and the series Scandal.
2017, Shonda entered into a multi-year development deal with Netflix, in which all her future
productions would be Netflix originals, while Netflix already bought streaming rights to
Scandal and Grey's.
Reportedly, she just inked a new 5-year deal with Netflix as well, valued at about $150
million, with built-in bonuses that could add up to money in the $300-400 million range.
At the time of this recording, Shonda's estimated net worth is at about $140 million
already, which has afforded her multiple luxury homes in the Hancock Park neighborhood of
Los Angeles, and even a plush penthouse on New York City's Park Avenue.

Back in 2014, Shonda forked out $8.8 million for a stunning 3-level, 11,749-square-foot
residence located on a 1.14-acre lot in the highly coveted Hancock Park neighborhood of
Los Angeles.
Built in 1923, the 7-bedroom and 12-bathroom estate was extensively renovated, with architect
Bill Baldwin taking 5 years working to replicate original historical photos.
Notable remodeling highlights include sleek hardwood flooring, crown molding, Venetian
plaster, designer lighting, and custom wall and window coverings.
The end result?
A $25 million mega-mansion jam-packed with deluxe features.
According to Shonda, she didn't even really like the designer-done home when she first
looked at it.
In fact, she even called the 1923 Elmer Grey-designed abode an ugly, wrong house.
After her architect fixed up the exterior back to its original look, an elegant Italianate
villa, the place was up to Shonda's standards.
Or the outside was, anyways.
A Chicago stonemason was brought in to recreate every detail of the original front exterior,
preserving the history of the home.
Then, White House decorator Michael S. Smith worked on the interiors to create his signature
look, a bit of classic California style mixed with romantic.
Upon entry, guests are greeted to a foyer ducked out in heated gray and white marble
checkerboard floors, a spiraling staircase, skylight, and brown glass chandelier.
The formal living room had honeycomb coffered ceilings that were recreated from original
photos of the house, and that took a lot of work.
Shonda's mansion had a number of dining and living spaces in the main level, like
you would expect.
There was a colossal family room fully furnished to Shonda's liking, with stone-carved fireplace,
custom cabinetry, and oversized windows offering tons of light and French doors that lead
to the back garden.
Several more gathering spaces on this level of her home included a library with corner
fireplace which also happened to be the room Shonda stored her vintage record collection,
and a light-filled double-height salon with wood-beam ceilings that led you outside via
arched doors.
Shonda's chef kitchen was comprised of stainless steel appliances, white marble countertops,
and a granite island with ample storage space.
In fact, Shonda called it her dream kitchen and the space also had custom floor tiles
and a huge 60-inch range.
Even the service quarters in her home were lavish with a deluxe laundry room and a home
office and crafts room.
For the nights when it's entertaining, the formal dining room seated 14 guests and had
Chinese lantern-style fixtures overhead.
Shonda's designer palace came with six bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, located on the
upper level.
The master suite encompassed the entire south wing of the home and included a sitting room,
cozy fireplace, and private balcony access.
In addition, the space was completed with a boutique-style dressing room that could
easily pose as an additional room in the house.
The ensuite bathroom was equally stylish, right down to the tiles underfoot, and there
were features like a soaking tub and glass shower.
The regal home even had a basement including a soundproof movie theater, complete with
stadium seating, personal snack bar with lounging, and children's playroom.
As you may expect from a $25 million dollar home, the grounds boasted a swimming pool
and spa combo with a poolside cabana.
Guests could also enjoy resource-style amenities like an extensive stone patio with an outdoor
fireplace and plenty of space for alfresco dining.
Other highlights included a wellness center, pickleball court, outdoor kitchen with built-in
barbecue and wet bar, ideal for any luxurious pool party.
Shonda truly thought of everything at this mansion, even adding a stunning herb garden
touched with mature trees and landscaping, plus a hedged secret garden with fountains.
It's no secret that Shonda Rhimes has a love affair with Hancock Park because her
second luxurious mansion was also located in the posh neighborhood.
She initially listed this home back in 2018 for $10 million, and after no bites, she would
continuously slash the price.
Despite the fact that she had to settle on $7.2 million back in September of 2019, she
purchased the property back in 2010 for $5.6 million, so we'll call it a small win.
Built in the 1920s, this 8,298 square foot estate situated on a corner lot had been updated
with a modern feel.
This mansion boasted six large bedrooms and nine bathrooms and included a sumptuous interior
complete with entry hall detailed in elegant checkerboard flooring.
The regal home included a spacious living room decked out in lush furnishings, a stone
fireplace, and high coffered ceilings.
The formal dining room offered custom cabinets, lavish drapes, and carpet with a glossy wine
bar.
Then there was an open plan, expansive great room with plenty of eating and dining areas,
custom fittings and fixtures, swanky light fixtures, and chic furnishings perfectly centered
on a built-in fireplace and flat screen TV.
Possibly this home's biggest highlight was the music room with vintage record collection,
grand piano, and front doors out to the terrace.
Nearby the eat-in kitchen included all the modern appliances and a large peninsula which
opened to a casual dining area.
Upstairs, Chanda's former master suite included dual baths, two walk-in closets, and a separate
study.
Not to mention her bedroom had classy blue accent walls, French doors to a sunny private
balcony, seating area, and more.
Outside, her property was walled and gated for privacy and there was a tiered grassy
yard with plenty of space for lounging and entertaining.
Then, steps led up to a pool on an upper terrace.
Other highlights included a 600-square-foot cabana which had been converted into an entertainment
lounge with wet bar and tile-accented fireplace.
Believe it or not, Chanda has actually owned three mansions in the Hancock Park neighborhood
plus a duplex just west of Hancock Park which she bought in 2007 for $1.66 million.
But back in 2017, Chanda forked out $4.6 million for an English Country Manor that spans 4,895
square feet and boasts 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, complete with stone terrace with
a cozy poolside guesthouse.
I mean the $25 million mansion is more than enough to blow one's mind, but personally
I love this spa.
Chanda's 1920s-style residence was sold to her by real estate star Josh Flagg for
Million Dollar Listing LA, and it's a true stunner.
Upon entry, guests are greeted to a three-tiered fountain at the front yard, cozy porch, and
chic doors that open to a marble-flooring center hall that pour into the formal living
and dining rooms.
The graceful living room features swanky furnishings, a stone fireplace, and a small adjoining
office, while the dining room comes with custom cabinets, coffered ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling
24-pane casement windows.
The gourmet kitchen is outfitted with up-to-date appliances and stone counters on wood cabinets,
but despite the sleek fixings, the kitchen still has a little bit of a rustic feel.
Just off the kitchen lies an informal dining area and library family room with wood-beamed
ceilings and French doors to the yard.
Chanda's English Manor offered two guest bedrooms on the upper floor with private bathrooms,
plus a window-line study with extensive built-in desk space.
Then her master suite here offers a vaulted ceiling, additional fireplace, plus cushioned
window seats set between built-in wardrobes.
The ensuite bath features stone-tile flooring, twin carved wood vanities, a freestanding
soaking tub, and glass-enclosed shower space with chandelier above.
Probably one of the selling points of this home was that sumptuous stone terrace that
offers a heated swimming pool complete with multiple lounging spaces.
Other features worthy of envy include a barbecue area, fire pits, and wet bar touched with
one bedroom, one bathroom, poolside guesthouse with media center that opens to the pool.
And I'm willing to bet Chanda threw a few Grey's Anatomy pool parties here.
While you may think Chanda only buys homes in Hancock Park, she added to her real estate
portfolio in 2018 with a plush penthouse located on New York City's Park Avenue.
I can't believe it wasn't another home in the same LA neighborhood, but I guess she
needed a spot on the East Coast too.
Chanda dropped a whopping $11.75 million dollars for this luxe 2,300 square foot home that
boasts two bedrooms and 2.5 baths.
Highlights include a 29-foot-long living room jam-packed with high-end furnishings, an antique
fireplace, and outfitted with elegant art and decor.
A separate dining room is highlighted with custom cabinets, stunning antiques, not to
mention a second fireplace that opens to a small loggia converted into a home office.
The high-end Eden kitchen here offers Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, marble quartz countertops,
and a massive center island.
Additional Eden kitchen features include a pass-through wet bar and a butler's pantry
equipped with dishwasher.
If that's not enough, Chanda has a massive master bedroom to unwind after a busy day
in the city, which offers a sitting area, custom hand-carved antique wood shelves, fireplace,
and regal chandelier.
Another feature that takes the cake with this posh penthouse has to be the massive custom-fitted
walk-in closet that opens to the private wraparound terrace with panoramic views of the New York
City skyline.
Alright, so I think we'll bring this house tour to an end here.
We checked out not one, but four of famous TV producer Chanda Rimes' homes.
These included her handful of lavish estates in the Hancock Park neighborhood of LA, and
one beautiful New York City property.
After checking them all out, I know it's a lot to remember and to choose from, but did
you have a fave?
I liked that English Manor-style house in the Hancock Park neighborhood best because
of the mix of rustic and modern features.
I think it was elegant and charming.
