Pop-up campers. Is it the overland dream vehicle or is it a little bit too much?
I'm here at the four-wheel pop-up campers booth and I've always been a fan of the
pop-up campers because you could still have your truck, you could take it off
relatively easily and you have a full home in the back of your vehicle. What I
love about pop-up campers specifically is it's only adding 1,300 pounds so you can
have a heavy-duty off-roading truck with 37s or 40s on it and have your full
setup in the back without having to tow a trailer. But check these things out
they're pretty rad. So this is the Hawk and it pops up and the advantages and
disadvantages on that are pretty well known but in general you just have a ton
of space, a ton of storage and when it collapses down you're now way more
aerodynamic. Versus a Lance or something that's more heavy-duty you have cabinetry
you have more storage but the reality is for overlanders I think this is the way
to go. The other ones are closer to 2,500 pounds and the center of gravity
is much lower on these because you're gonna store all your gear below the cab
and when you pop it up all of that is just empty space which is cool. So the
people who are gonna love the pop-up campers are the minimalists they don't
want to take a ton of stuff and they want to go to some pretty deep places
into the sticks. I like this one this is a Project M because you have your
sleeping area up top all your storage down here a deck storage system this is
as minimalist as it gets but you could also store bikes motorcycles other
things to use the back of your truck bed but I like the side paneling here
because it's gonna be able to actually go off into the sticks. The pop-up just
gives you so much more room in the back which is always cool and by mounting
some jacks to the side you could actually lift it up when you're done
camping unscrew some bolts on the inside and take it off. Now check out the flat
bed. Alright for someone who's looking for something a little bit more
permanent you can still take it off and have a flatbed truck. Oh man this is
crazy nice you have a little kitchen dinette right here a full sleeping
quarters that's like a queen-size bed windows all around and you know it's
pretty protected from the elements that's gonna deaden the wind noise if
you have any. Refrigerator right here and then more storage compartments all over
the place a little dinette which is really cool and what I really love about
it is anywhere at $3,500 could go this can go so this could seriously do some
crazy off-grid exploring. I like pop-up campers I think they're cool they're not
for everyone but if you want the modern creature comforts and have onboard water
and everything else but don't want to get earth roamer or like operating motor
home this is a great solution for you.
