Hello my name is John and in this video I'm going to give you a few tips if you're planning to travel to Bulgaria
I was in Bulgaria a few weeks ago a country located in Eastern Europe
And the truth is that I was very surprised so I'm going to give you a few tips if you're planning to travel there
If you fly to Bulgaria for example from Spain you can find very good deals to get there
And you start by visiting Sofia which is the capital
There are three main ways to get from the airport to the center
One is to rent a taxi
If you do this be careful
Once you land there is usually someone trying to recruit you right
Avoid taxi taxi and that group of people who walk around following you reject them
Because that's not official taxi drivers it's people who have agreements with other taxis
And they will charge you much more than with regular taxis and with the official ones
Then if your idea is to take a taxi to get to the center as soon as possible
And in the most comfortable way depending on where you go go to the taxi stands
You can hire a taxi and pay there on the spot it will tell you how much it is
They give you a ticket you give it to the driver and he takes you to the center
Then do it this way
Another way is to take public transportation there are two ways
One is by bus which is already for real adventurers
Because the driver usually doesn't speak any English and
they tend to be buses that are usually quite full of people
It is usually quite complicated to
get around by bus Well if you like adventure it's a good option and it's one of the most affordable choices
Another better option is the metro
There is also a metro that connects the airport to the center
So even if it's in another alphabet good then
you can guide yourselves if it's well noted down
Bulgaria is a country that uses a different alphabet so you
might have some trouble understanding the signs and such
They are usually not in English they are usually only in Cyrillic
If you are for example coming from Spain or any country in the European Union
Roaming is enabled which will consume your data
whether you are using your phone here or in Spain
So take advantage of that use the data to move
around with Google Maps or however you like
To help you with the organization there during the trip when you arrive
The other option to reach the center is by renting a car
For me it was the best option in fact what I did was
because I wasn't going to be only in Sofia which is the capital of Bulgaria
I was moving mostly to the south to two other points and
then the best way for me to make the most of the days I was going to be there
It's time to rent the
car If you haven't seen the videos from when I was in Bulgaria
I'll leave you up there and there you can see how I rent the car and so on
It was very cheap I think it
cost around 10-13 euros a
day or something like that it was very good I didn't take any insurance apart from that
If you stay in Sofia there is a wide range of hotels
and hostels as well but hotels are not very expensive
In general Bulgaria is a fairly inexpensive country I stayed
at a hotel that was very good a 10-minute walk from the center
I think it cost me 30 euros or
something like that maybe a bit more maybe but
it was great Regarding the best time to visit Bulgaria
You have the summer part which is extremely hot
keep in mind that it will be very hot
And if I'm going to do for example
hikes in the mountains and such you'll notice it
And if you go in winter as has been my case
you will find everything practically snowed in with temperatures
below zero minus two minus three
Depending on how the week went but well it has quite
wide contrasts Then if you
go between seasons for example
If you go in May or if you go in September or
October you will have a bit milder temperatures
And they are not exaggerated one way or
the other so keep that in mind too
The typical food here is very Eastern European
meaning that it usually consists of quite dense meats
They are very filling in general or with a lot of roasted vegetables
you are going to be quite full
But you know that's why you understand how the Bulgarians are such a big people
I mean because if that's their diet
I tell you it's pure protein
For example Sofia is a city that looks perfect in the morning
So if you want to spend more time go
ahead but if you want to make the most of the time you'll be in the country
to see more things
If you dedicate half a day to it that is I think you can visit it
in about two hours you will see the whole
city you will see the whole center
Because everything is all super close meaning that going
from point to point is just walking and you don't move at all
Then starting from two hours the time you
want to dedicate but that would be enough
I therefore spent the rest of my time there visiting villages
in the area but I couldn't see all of the Eastern region
Because I didn't have time and didn't want to be stuck in the car the whole trip
but there are other cities like Veliko Tarnovo
which is the old capital
or if you go to the coast you already have places like Varna
which are beautiful coastal areas
And in the middle there are a lot of towns worth visiting
there are also parts with nature mountains or caves
Beautiful rock formations In my case I went to the
south where there is a monastery which is the
most famous monastery in Bulgaria
I highly recommend it it is located on
the summit of a mountain at 1 100 meters in altitude
It is located in the
Rila area and besides seeing
the monastery which is beautiful and it's free to enter the premises
You can go hiking in the mountains
depending on the time of year with
more or less ease If you go in summer Bulgaria is generally very hot
In Sofia you will notice it already
or if you go on excursions
to the mountains in that Rila area there is a very nice hike that is with
There are a few lakes in the mountains you can
take a trip to see them
and it's very beautiful
But I couldn't go because I went in
winter and it was completely snowed
in meaning it would have been impossible it's more used for skiing
So I dedicated it to visiting the Rila
Monastery and then I went back south again
In the south I went to a town called Melnik which is famous
for being the smallest city in all
of Bulgaria for historical reasons
You might think it's
a tiny village it doesn't have much but
I loved that I caught a local
festival and then it was like
There the Bulgarians are very
folkloric and then when you
see those festivals you will associate them with Bulgaria
ose dances with
those colorful costumes those lively
dances where the whole town gets involved in dancing
It's really beautiful to
see really cool I had a
great time and it was definitely worth the trip
I was going there exclusively
to see the town and some mountain
formations called the Melnik
Pyramids which aren't really much
You see them in photos and say "It's beautiful and all
" but when you go there
they're just brown mountains
Because they are made of clay which
takes on curious shapes due
to erosion wind and so on What I especially recommend in Bulgaria
It's worth trying to look for local festivals to see how
they celebrate because that
local atmosphere is really cool
See how the Bulgarians celebrate there they
are people
the Bulgarians are very kind people
but it is true that it will
cost you to find someone
who tells you things with a smile on their face
Only if a couple more wines arrive which is easy during those festivities but if you
go to restaurants and so on
You will see that
those who attend to you are very kind people
but with serious faces which
is a very Eastern European trait
It's also true that I know in Russia and in the countries of the region
but it doesn't mean that people are
unfriendly it's simply a way of being
So that's why I recommend that you interact a lot
with them they don't
usually have a very good command of English but anyway they can get by
and help you guide
yourselves and that's it I don 't want to go on much more
any questions you have
If you are planning to travel
to Bulgaria please let me know in the comments or contact me
as she hasn't mentioned it yet
And I respond to you gladly
as always so
many thanks for having
made it this far
and see you next time Goodbye
