Hi guys, my name is Meg and welcome back to my channel.
Today I'm going to show you how to make the world's simplest mouthwash.
This is just such a healthy alternative to all those mouthwashes out there that you can buy in
the store. Even though you're not swallowing it most of the time, a lot of those toxins and
chemicals absorb into your skin and it's just really not healthy at all. Every single one of
these ingredients that are in this are healthy and good for you and have really obvious benefits.
So I love that about this recipe. I'm here in my laundry room because this is where I keep
all the supplies for making these sorts of things. So we're gonna do this video in my
laundry room today. I know these are usually done in my kitchen, but I just wanted to change it up
a little bit. So all you're gonna need to make this really simple mouthwash is some water. We
live somewhere where I'm actually more comfortable filtering it, so I'm gonna use filtered water
today. But if you live kind of out in the country more and you have your own well and you drink
water out of the tap anyway, then just that's totally fine too. And then you'll need baking
soda and some essential oils. And that's it. So I actually keep my mouthwash in this little plastic
bottle. It's a squeeze bottle and it has a top that you can just like squirt the mouthwash right
out of. So this has worked really well for us. I just keep reusing the same bottle. So this is a
16 ounce bottle and I'm gonna fill this up with water. I have a funnel here because I will
definitely make a huge mess if I don't use that in my filtered water. And then we're going to use
some baking soda. I just have one level teaspoon of this. And you know, I should have thought this
through and done the baking soda first when the funnel would be wet, but what can you do? I'm
actually gonna run a little bit more water through there to get the rest of that. Now you guys know
for future. It's better to put the baking soda in first. Okay, now we're gonna move on to our
essential oils. The first one I'm going to use is peppermint. And this is just a really great
essential oil that I use for pretty much all my homemade like oral health stuff. I use this for
my toothpaste. It's just really great at killing bacteria. It smells and tastes great. It smells
like how mouthwash should. So I'm going to use 10 drops of peppermint. And then I also have lemon
here. And this is just another really great oil for your dental health. It fights bacteria. It can
also help prevent receding gums and tooth decay. This oil also has properties known to stimulate
tissue formation and can support healthy gums. So lemon oil is just a really great option for
toothpaste or mouthwash. I pretty much always add it to both of those things. I'm going to do five
drops of lemon. And then the last oil that I'm going to use today is clove. And clove is just
another really great oil that I pretty much always use in my mouthwash or toothpaste. I've heard that
it can help heal cavities even. I have really sensitive teeth and clove oil can help numb
your gums and help with sensitive teeth. It really does help out my sensitive teeth.
So I'm going to do five drops of this one as well. And then I'm just going to put the lid on this
and shake it up. And it's all done. Keep in mind that you don't have to use the exact same
essential oils that I do. I know that tea tree essential oil is really great for dental health.
You can also add a wintergreen instead of peppermint because you'll get that same minty
flavor or even spearmint. There's just a ton of different options with the essential oils. So do
some research and make sure that they're safe to put in your mouth before you put them in your
mouthwash, obviously. But there's a lot of room for playing around with this recipe. It's not
super strict. For the first few uses, I usually try to shake it up before just because unless
you've used warm water for this, it's going to take a little bit for the baking soda to incorporate.
So I don't want to have a whole bunch left at the bottom when I'm done. So I'll just shake it up
before I use it for the first few times after I've made a new batch. But that is all you have to do.
I almost feel stupid making a video about this because it's so easy. That will really help keep
your teeth and gums healthy. It will help with bad breath. It's just going to be really all-around
great. And we've been using it for quite a while now and we love it. I also did a blog post on this
that I will link below if you want to get the measurements really quick and not have to watch
this whole video every time you make it. I hope this video was helpful. Thank you for watching
and I will see you next time. Bye!
