Travel accommodations is one of the first things that comes to mind
when planning a travel budget. That's because accommodations will more often than not be the
main cost during any travels. Since I like to spend more on experiences rather than hotels,
I tend to opt for fairly affordable accommodations. And it was only natural during my Japan trip
that I stumbled across something known as Caps Hotels. Caps Hotels were first introduced in
Japan in the late 1970s due to the lack of accommodation options for the typical Japanese
salaryman who needed a place to stay when they either missed the last train home or were too
drunk to get home otherwise. As such Caps Hotels were born with the intention of providing cheap
and basic overnight accommodations. With time Caps Hotels exploded in popularity and now even
foreign tourists are staying at them as well. So I knew when I arrived in Japan that I immediately
had to try one of these out and I went with probably the most well-known Caps Hotel chain
9 hours. I decided to stay in one of the newer branches in Akasaka. Once checked in we're
directed into an elevator where we'll locate the men's locker room area. With the supply locker
card you get access to your own storage locker where you can store your luggage as well as other
personal items such as clothing jackets or shoes. You'll also find a basic toilet amenities bag
which includes a toothbrush, a towel, and a pair of pajamas. But before slipping into those you need
to take a shower. In the individual shower rooms you'll find your basic necessities such as shampoo,
conditioner, and body wash. Once done slip into the pajamas and don't forget your slippers.
We go back into the elevator and head up to the exclusive men's sleeping area. Here you'll be
greeted by space-like sleeping pods which look like something out of a movie. It's actually really
nice and cool in here. A lot cooler than I expected. I was afraid it was going to be too hot but I like it.
All right so we're in the pod here and as you can see nice little pod.
Pretty pretty cozy. A lot bigger than I initially imagined. I saw some videos on YouTube and
they're a little bit tight but this one is actually quite roomy. I feel like I can like
stretch out quite fine. I'm like five ten you know lay flat down and everything like that. It's
pretty cozy. Of course with every pod there comes a few accessories with it. So your power port,
your light adjustment. Let's test this out. Oh yeah make it like really cozy and romantic.
Of course the USB power port. I don't know if you can see the air comes in here.
So the pod stays nice and chilled. Like pretty cozy. A lot bigger.
Than I expected it. To be honest I thought it was going to be a lot more tighter but
so far so good. I like it. It's very spacey. It's very minimalist in a sense.
So would I recommend staying at a caps hotel? Yes and no. If you're only staying for a day or two
and you're going to spend most of your time exploring the city anyways then yes. If you're
staying any longer than that then I personally would either choose a hotel or Airbnb. Overall
it was pretty comfortable staying at nine hours. It was a different experience but I definitely
missed having a whole place to myself where I wouldn't have to be quiet because I was going
to bother someone. But I would totally do it again. I really love the place, the design
and everything. So I would totally recommend anyone to stay at nine hours.
