Climbing near Mount Rushmore

Today we are out at South Seas, outside of Rapid City. It's about 20 miles away, right next to Mount Rushmore. It's really nice because you can go here with a more experienced person and they can set you up a route and set themselves up a route right next to it. I like Rapid City a lot. There's a lot of stuff just right next door to it. You can go 10 minutes outside of town and find a place to climb and you can go 5 miles and find a place to boulder. It's just all over pretty nice. We just went to Yellowstone and on our way home we're stopping in the Black Hills. Over the last maybe 7 years I've come back to the Black Hills to do rock climbing. The rock here is phenomenal and it's so much fun. We're just visiting from New York. We love Rapid City and then all of a sudden you drive like 20-30 minutes and you're in the Black Hills and we're going hiking and there's nothing around us, just wilderness. This whole area is absolutely beautiful. The rock is absolutely beautiful. Can't help it, you just become a rock climber. Well, I'm not an expert on the rock but it has quartzite in it. So it's like granite with quartzite. So you'll hold on to hardly anything and you're able to do ridiculous moves. It's a really awesome rock. Rapid City is quite developed so we were very impressed with the stores that are there. Really conveniently located too. This whole area is just gorgeous. A short drive takes you out to the outdoors.
