we're here at the lake
we're gonna top up, aren't we?
yeah
I will follow you then
this is where my dad goes fishing
its a private fishing lake that he's got access to
because he's a member
so putting our traps down here for the crayfish
there's a good chance they're not gonna get disturbed by much
apart from the odd canal boat or maybe a rowing boat in the actual canal itself
like a canoe yeah it's nice and secluded should be
good. Hey we're near. The baits. The buckets. So the buckets and the nets. Where's the nets?
Where? No. These are some fish. My dad mixed up and made himself. Really? What's that?
Do you want to have a sniff? No. There's a zebra. But the zip's broke.
Pour the other ones in. We'll stick a few in here. So they're inside the net. How did you do that?
Put the whole lot in. The whole lot? Yeah. There we are. So that should keep them alive for a while.
There's one there. There you go. It's gonna go. We need to close it a little bit.
When it falls in anyway they're gonna bait the area really. Ah right. How are you
gonna chuck it? It's far supposedly Harry. Is that alright there? Is it too far or too near?
And this one is going to here as well.
Done? Done. I want more. Oh that one's a zebra. We need to change the zip scene. Yeah.
Are we gonna buy more? I mean they've got big claws on them little buggers. These nets, they don't really last forever.
So yeah. We'll just get some more off of eBay. They're not that much money. I'll put links in your video
description to where you can get the licenses from, where you can get the nets from. So if you do want
to do this yourselves, we're doing a service for the waterways. Yeah. And all the fishermen.
Because my dad used to love fishing. But now he doesn't get many fish because there's too many crabs.
That's why we're taking them. I keep calling them crabs. I say crabs, I mean crayfish.
One, two, three. That is far still. We have enough out in the middle. Yeah. Oh right.
Almost there. I'll just stay there. It takes a bit of a wait to pull the line down because we get
canoers coming along here with big oars. Okay. Hopefully we'll get more tomorrow.
Well yeah, you're fishing them for about 24 hours. You don't want to leave them too much longer than 24 hours
because after they've run out of the food in there, they can't get back out of the trap.
Oh right. I've got to put it in nice and slowly. I can't do this fast.
Is it heavy? Not yet. Oh there you are. Oh they are big. There's a couple in there. Yeah.
How are we going to put that in there?
Oh look at these. Are they going to go in there?
Come on let go. Oh that's plenty. Let go. Yeah. Still there. There we are. Oh my god. How many
have you got there? There's a lot. More than 10. There's a dozen in there I think. There's a lot.
Yeah. That should be all right. Another one there. Pull it slow because all the crayfish,
if they're over the net. Yeah. They fall off. Yeah I can see the net. My god.
Where? He hasn't got any on the outside. We've got a big one. We've got a big one in there
but just one on his own. Look at him. But it's big. We can stick it in the same bucket can't we? Yeah.
We've got a lot of, got a lot of these. Cabbages. Cabbage. He's not cabbaging.
He's kind of on his lunch. That one. It's massive. Yeah. You've got gloves there. You brought
gloves. No they're my dad's. Oh. There he is. Look he's upside down. Let it be. You're gonna crawl.
Stay careful. I got him up the right way. Wash all the mud out. Yeah. Empty the water out. Yeah.
Sprinkle salt over and they go mad you know. Yeah start sicking and pooing all the crap.
Wash all the salt and crap out of them and if you like you can add second salt in you know. Okay.
And then wash them out and then put them in boiling water to kill them. You've got loads of salt.
I made a mistake. They don't like water you know. Oh fair enough. Ah. No they don't like water
because they die you know. Yeah. So these are the signal crayfish. You just have to apply for a
license. You attach your license to your nets. Throw the nets in. Jobs are good. Yeah.
So we're going to put salt in it later on. Yeah. Wash them out with tap water. Yeah.
And then empty the sink with the aft and sprinkle them with salt. Yeah. And then they'll be happy.
They're going to be sick innit. And then maybe salt them again.
Perfect. Right. It's almost like pre-marinating them. At least we have a lot. Isn't it?
We're done now. We're heading to the car.
Where are they? Here they are. You've got loads. All my days. A lot. Thank you very much for
