What are you typing in the captain's log?
That at 4 35 p.m we hoisted the spinnaker.
It's still super nerve-wracking because we've only flown this now
twice and we've never really had anybody on the boat with us while we've done it
we've just been figuring it out and yeah i mean it feels like it's one
of those things where the genoa is comfortable the main is
comfortable i don't feel like i can make too many
screw-ups there and or if i did i can fix it but with this
it's like there's it's this free thing so if it falls
or if it goes on the wrong side or attaches to something it just feels like
there's a lot that could go wrong and then you
ruin this expensive sail and that it just yeah
so it feels like there's a lot more on the line so it's very
butterflies yeah but it's so pretty and it's out
and we're moving normally at an angle where we couldn't sail if we did not
have this thing you're gonna kill that engine
yes i'm trying to break the captain's log too much to do
drop the hook just in the nick of time look at the moon
right there it's cool we're tucked away in this tiny little pocket here
and the ocean is just right there that's the open ocean just a
i don't know maybe a half a nautical mile behind us and it drops off to like
3 000 feet so the idea is tomorrow we're gonna go to this little national
park that's over here that little island over there do some
snorkeling then go outside hopefully catch some fish
in the deep waters maybe some wahoo maybe uh
i don't know who knows i don't you know our luck with fishing
but anyway yeah that's the plan at least
whoa check out that sunrise this is singa's favorite hidey hole loves
being where the sail is what are you doing in there
is that your fort we left hope town yesterday and made our way to man o' war
which is north not south and south is the direction
we've been headed since we got here making our way through the abacos
but jason's brother is flying into freeport
so now we are backtracking kind of going
right back the same route we just came except for stopping at new spots this
time and picking him up he'll be here for the
holidays which is very exciting and then we have him for like a week
and jason's entire family well immediate family
including his like aunt and uncle and everything anyway they're all coming
which is a really big deal because we haven't seen everybody in a long
time most certainly not all of us together so anyway
exciting stuff for us headed that direction
uh and it'll be interesting to go back the same route
but make new stops and see if we find something else interesting and new along
the way that's our game plan for the next
several days
so
free shark bait we just grabbed this mooring ball
i'm surprised we found it it seemed so tiny out here and
this is the open ocean behind us there's a a nice element of butterflies
and fear going through my chest or stomach or
whatever because i don't know it's just us
out here floating in the ocean about to go snorkeling with whatever's
down there
thanks for those words of encouragement and how about you nikki
yes i feel like shark bait certainly no there's a mooring ball
this is a snorkeling spot so whether there are two of us or whether there are
five of us shark bait all the same
this is where we were anchored we're gonna come out and go out to sea
here doesn't talk about it we can't find any information on it
we're gonna assume it's okay and go for it worst case scenario if it's looking
crappy or whatever turn around we can always turn
around
over 20 knots of wind now which means we have to reef
the main sail that is what jason is doing now
it's windy it's not bad we're sailing baby
you ever wonder what it's like from the driver's seat
here is the view
if you want to be technical you're gonna call it the helm station
or the view from the helm turn this off oh don't be a barracuda
no be a wahoo it's colorful
is that a false tuna it's beautiful but we're not sure what
kind of fish he is
he's a little little spiky so we're gonna throw him back
right well from what i can tell that looked like maybe a skipjack tuna
which would have been edible but we weren't sure so we didn't want to kill a
we weren't sure we could eat it so we tossed him back
next time he wasn't on any of my little fish identification charts
anymore we are in through the whale and we are heading to
uh just north of no name which is where the pigs were and there's a little spot
on the very very southern tip of green turtle key
we've got about 30 more minutes of sailing the sun's going down
and let's just say tensions are up a little bit because i made nikki throw
back that skipjack tuna she's not too happy with me but i
we didn't want to kill it if we didn't know what it was and we didn't think it
was edible so anyway oops
we'll see you tomorrow
