Okay, I'm ready to trim the Ikebana vase that I made two days ago.
And again, before I start it, I'd like to know how thick the bottom is.
And this is my measuring tool. Two pieces.
And one for horizontal, you cross over, and one for vertical, so you subtract the difference.
And you know exactly how thick the bottom is before you start it.
But now again, the rim is too wide, so I won't be able to put my horizontal ruler over,
so that I showed you the other day that if you want to increase the size, it's very easy.
Just get two parallel bars, cross over, and you can increase whatever the size you want it to be.
So this one here,
measure the very center point, and I come with 168, and then pull out and put it on here.
So it's about 178. So 168 and 178.
Right, so I cut the subtraction 178 and 168, so it comes with 10 millimeters.
Okay, 10. So keep that in mind that I have 10 millimeters.
If you tend to forget it, you can write it down like 178 minus 168.
Okay, and then turn it upside down and start to trim.
So the rim is fairly thin actually, so I don't want to remove too much clay,
maybe just a little bit. But here it's kind of thick, so I will remove a bit more here.
But I still want to keep that piece fairly stable, so I will keep the foot size about this
wide, so it's more balanced. But this part here, I can trim a bit more here.
So to give myself an idea where the foot ring will be, I told you that I like to keep it more
stable. So I will put the outer part of the foot here, and then the inner part of the foot ring
here. Okay.
And also the inner part here, usually I leave it about three to four millimeters, so
meaning I could go, I have 10 here, so if I leave this part about four, I could go
at least six or seven millimeters deep. So that gives you some idea that how much clay I will
remove from here. So let me check it before I keep on going. Right, so this is about right
six here. I can remove a bit more here in the very center, but this part here is fine. So now
I'm going to just refine it, make sure the corners look nice and the smooth, the bottom is smooth.
Right, so after getting this part right, now I'm going to compare the
inside corner and outside corner. So I could cut a little bit more clay down here.
Okay, so the foot is finished, and I'm going to just polish, burnish.
Right, so after carefully removing all clay and a little bit of texture here for the decoration,
I'm putting the foot here. So the Ikebana flower arrangement vase is finished, and
usually this part here, if your foot is wide enough, because you're going to put water inside,
and also the frog inside is going to be very heavy, so I don't worry about being tipped over
as long as you have a vase that is wide enough. That's why I keep the vase wider and kind of
narrow down on here, so the whole piece looks more balanced this way. Alright, so thanks for watching.
