Episode 36: For This Episode I went down to Lexington, NC to film with D1 Commit to ECU Merritt Beeker. He is a Left Handed Pitcher throwing between 87-92 for a fast Ball. All his pitches move which is pretty impressive. We start the day at his high School (Class of 2021) where it was about 36 degrees and 15 MPH Winds. So it was extremely cold. Got some Stretching, Threw some long toss, and threw a Bullpen. The we headed to the Gym to get a Workout in.

What's up guys, my name is Merritt Beeker. I'm a senior at North Davidson High School.
I'm a left-handed pitcher and I'm committed to East Carolina University,
and this is a day in the life of me.
A typical game day for me looks like I like to wake up pretty early, so I'm always up around
7 30, 8 o'clock. I'll get some breakfast, my go-to breakfast, usually two scrambled eggs,
some sausage, and maybe a little bit of bacon. After that I like to, say the game's like at
two or three o'clock in the afternoon, after breakfast I like to go get a little bit of like
an auxiliary workout in, like not nothing too heavy, nothing crazy, but just to get the body
moving, get some blood flowing and stuff like that. Then after that for lunch I'll probably go
every game day I like to have chick-fil-a. I like to get the grilled nuggets and fruit cups and all
that before I pitch anything, so I'll usually do that, it's kind of like my thing. Then I'll come
back, get to the field probably an hour, hour and a half early, start getting my band and stretching
in, start doing my plyo balls and stuff like that, just get mentally prepared for the game.
I first got into baseball at like the age of three. I started playing t-ball really early,
my dad was a coach and like growing up I just always loved baseball and we've just been a
baseball family my whole life, so I started playing pretty early and just fell in love with
the game from there. I chose ECU over other programs, I just loved the place, it felt like
the right place for me. I loved the coaches, the coaches were great,
that was one of the biggest influences for me whenever deciding like the guys at ECU,
the coaches at ECU, they really like do a great job and I love everything that they're doing with
the program. And also like you can't beat the environment up at East Carolina, the fans are
great, I can't wait to play there, it'll be great. What's up guys, I'm Hype and I had to jump in this
video real quick to tell you about a giveaway I'm doing on my Instagram page. I'm giving away
a pair of cleats to one subscriber to the channel, all you have to do is subscribe to the channel

Being committed to a D1 school, I really don't feel a whole lot of pressure. I actually love
having the pressure on me, I mean I feel like I thrive under that. I feel like especially in high
school, you're held to a higher standard whenever you're playing, especially being committed to a
D1 school, so I think that like you still, even though you're committed, you still got to go out
and perform. My greatest strength that I bring to the game is I'm very competitive and I'm also
pitching like everything that I throw moves, like even the fastball, so that that's really
helpful for me because I get a lot of movement on all of my pitches and it works out in my favor.
And then my greatest weakness, I tend to get in my head a little bit, so I feel like I need to
work on that a little bit, even like if I make a bad pitch, just forget about it, move on to the
next one and just keep getting after it. My game day ritual is like I said in one of the other
questions, I get a Chick-fil-a before every game, like I get the grilled nuggets every time.
I've been doing that for like a little over a year now and it's just my thing now. I kind of made it
into my thing, that's my ritual. I think the transition from baseball just being like a fun
game to having to take it a lot more serious was the transition from middle school to high school
baseball. Whenever I came into high school, like it was a lot more serious. The guys around you
are taking it a lot more seriously, like your future really depends on how you do in high
school. So making that jump from middle school to high school is definitely whenever I saw
a change in the perspective you got to have on playing. My top three favorite players in the
league right now are Garrett Cole, Clayton Kershaw, and Tyler Glasnell. Started the day off
up at the high school, got some good stretching in, did some plyo ball, got a good long toss in,
get the arm loose, then went down, threw a bullpen, then came from there. Here at the gym,
got a good workout in, started out with some kettlebell swings, then hit some weighted pull-ups,
got some sledgehammer, and did some sled work. Then we went into some dumbbell rows, some band
stuff, then got into some farmer carries and lateral raises and finished up with some shoulder
mobility and an ab circuit. And that's been a day in the life of me.
