Elsewhere in the NBA, it was another big night on deck in L.A. coming tonight. Kyrie Irving expected
to make his debut with the Mavs tonight as Dallas faces the Clippers, but ahead of the matchup,
Kyrie touched on his departure from Brooklyn saying he felt disrespected during his time with the Nets.
I'm just sitting in the seat today. I just know I want to be places where I'm celebrated
and not just tolerated or just, you know, kind of dealt with in a way that doesn't make me feel
respected. And there were times throughout this process when I was in Brooklyn where I
felt very disrespected and my talent. I work extremely hard at what I do. No one ever talks
about my work ethic, though. Everyone talks about what I'm doing off the floor. So when
things start to change and you're not getting transparency and honesty from people in the
front office or people around you, I mean, I don't know what person feels comfortable or confident
in that type of environment. I wish them well. I left them in fourth place. I did what I was
supposed to do when Dallas called my agent. It was definitely exciting because I didn't have to
force anything. I didn't have to overthink it. I just flowed into it. They wanted me. I want to
be here. And this is just kind of where we stand at this present moment. And just take it one day
at a time. All right. So Jalen Rose back with us now. And Jalen, since the trade became official,
many people wondering how to ultra high usage stars like Luca and Kyrie will fit together
offensively. How confident are you that this will be a successful pairing?
I'm extremely confident. Let's start with their owner, Mark Cuban. Oh, I bet that when Kyrie
talks about feeling comfortable, did a great job of making sure that not only he's probably wanted
for the short term, but hopefully try to keep up for long term. Their GM, Nico, did a terrific job
of pulling the trigger because he's known Kyrie for a long time. Their head coach, Jason Kidd,
is going to be masterful at being able to employ two high usage point guards,
ball handling, lead ball handlers with both of these guys. And here's why. Luca likes to operate
primarily from the left side of the floor. Mid post, step back jump shot. Look at Kyrie. That's
the right side of the floor. The iconic shot that he made in the NBA finals against Steph Curry,
right side of the floor. And both of these guys, guess what they make you do?
Double team. And you can double team both of them on the same play at the same time,
which means they're going to be able to go one-on-one on a nightly basis. And it's going
to be a nightmare for defenses. One of these guys is going to score 35 points every night.
One of them. So therefore, the defense now has to make sure that they're paying attention to that
and it's just going to unleash the other player. This is going to be great to watch. I can't wait
to see these guys get out there and do their thing. The numbers just don't add up. You can't
get both of them with the double team and have the other person standing there. They're going
to be knocking down shots. The earliest, though, that we may see this pairing going to be Friday
in Sacramento, because Luca, of course, out tonight. We'll have more from our Mavericks
reporter in the next hour. Jalen, thanks. And we turn now to senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnowski
here with us now. And let's flip to the other side of this trade, Woj. And of course, that's
what happens now in Brooklyn. You reported KD. He's working with the Nets on the direction of
the team. So where do things stand right now before tomorrow's trade deadline? Kelsey,
the Nets continue to canvas the marketplace, see what kind of deals are available. This is a tough
market at this trade deadline, especially for contending teams. There are so few sellers out
there. The prices are really high. Players like OG and Anobi in Toronto, who virtually half the
league has inquired about. Toronto may not move on from any of those really valuable assets they
have for teams around the league. They may wait until after the season to look at really reshaping
this roster. But they are absolutely, and including Brooklyn, taking offers on Anobi,
Fred Van Vliet in Toronto, Gary Trent. There's still players like John Collins in Atlanta,
who the Hawks would like to find a deal for. They've struggled to do so. But Brooklyn is out
there. Their conversations with Kevin Durant have been really consistent here in the last few days.
They want to keep Kevin Durant. They want to continue to try to build around him.
Trade deadline's tomorrow at three o'clock. Things can change quickly in this league right now.
Brooklyn's goal, build around Kevin Durant, see what they can still add here before Thursday's
deadline at three p.m. Eastern.
