So, Newcastle, the latest team faced with trying to stop Cristiano Ronaldo.
19 goals for the season, 11 of them in his last nine appearances here.
Nicky Butt is going to sit in front of the back four for Newcastle,
and he will attempt to prostrate.
Michael Owen plays as a lone striker,
his last goal here against Manchester United came when he was 18 years of age.
Referee is Robb Styles,
he has rare competition as Walter Lubel's most famous footballing figure,
thanks to his local team's exploits in the FA Cup.
There have been times when this fixture has decided titles.
Today, at the Premier League Summit,
is an enticing target for Manchester United after Arsenal's slip-up.
Milner, to Owen.
Back here from Tevez, here's Rooney.
Nick Bostein, they give the ball away in here.
I think he defends a bit differently.
John O'Shea, clear Newcastle because they're backed off.
Here's Duff, just over the head of Owen,
comes to Milner with a chance!
And it's struck Ferdinand.
When Newcastle get a chance, they really need to take it here of all places.
Anderson, Rooney, creating an angle.
Doesn't strike it brilliantly, and I don't think he's...
So it's Rooney!
Offside when that ball is chipped in,
I thought he was going to slide it through the middle for Ronaldo making the move,
but you can just see Rooney at the top of your screen.
Well, it's touch-and-go, I think Benefited out, he's probably level.
Youth side, Nicky Butt.
And O'Shea!
Well, Ronaldo actually pulls out of this challenge, but...
Has lost it to Duff.
Damian Duff had a good go.
Strongest foot, he's right.
Manchester United, taken instantly.
This is Ronaldo.
He's asked the question, to which the answer is no.
And Ronaldo is incandescent.
It was taken from the wrong position as well, that free-kick,
so that would have been interesting.
Certainly a looper penalty for the naked eye.
James Milner.
Van der Sar.
Tevez.
Tevez missed it, but didn't reach so for Shea Gibbon.
Once again, they just drop off.
There's not really any wind.
And Evra.
Tevez.
You watch him, he just knows what he wants to do,
nick it round him, takes him out of the game.
And then, you can see the goal was gaping for him,
because the goalkeeper's had to come out a little bit
and narrow that angle.
So the chip is on.
He just doesn't quite get it right.
He just drags it a little bit.
That's for sure, but I thought Steve Icard did well,
tucking round.
Offside, against Michael Owen.
You can see the...
linesman there, just about up the plate.
And you can see Michael Owen's quite clearly onside.
And he tucks it away.
Very nicely done.
Free-kick's United's way.
Manchester United, that is.
Ronaldo.
This evening, she again, just because of the pressure of the ball.
Late arrival.
Three for Manchester United, four for Newcastle,
that one would imagine would be in his thinking.
Half-time arrives.
And it is still goalless,
thanks to an errant flag from a linesman.
And thanks also to the refusal of referee Rob Stiles
to be impressed by the tumbles of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Newcastle sticking to their task pretty well.
Plenty of questions asked of Rob Stiles.
The answer to every single one so far has been no.
Half-time.
Manchester United, nil.
Newcastle United, nil.
A win for Manchester United
puts them top of the Barclays Premier League tonight.
That's their incentive.
Newcastle's is to chisel something out
of an unpromising-looking fixture for them.
The visiting team comes here with...
overriding expectations.
Here's Rooney.
Now it's Tevez!
Steven Taylor that saved the day,
and a second time.
Brilliant defending from Taylor.
But once again, it's Rooney
finds himself in there,
picks a nice little ball out to Tevez.
He does everything right.
You can see the goalkeeper's beating.
Pederoni as far as kicks.
Ronaldo with a mishit.
And then the appeal for a handball,
but the referee has actually brought it back.
And then he gives it back to the keeper
under pressure.
When the defenders could deal with it themselves.
And just gifting that second goal to Tevez.
You can see here,
Kasapa can clear that.
Look, sloppy.
Doesn't deal with it.
Just dwells on it.
Not a great kick from the goalkeeper.
Well, that.
Vandersaar's not had much to do this evening.
Pretty good effort from N'Zogbe.
I think he gets both hands to it.
He does.
He's reasonably comfortable for him,
but he's...
Blunt from a centre-half,
you'd have to say.
Right-hand side.
Acres of space.
Very good ball in as well.
It comes off Rooney's shoulder.
Now departed,
although Kasapa has appeared
with a pair in the second half.
But Evra was the only player
to start the game with, perhaps.
Carrick.
To Rooney.
Tevez.
Geometric perfection!
Ronaldo!
A bit of pace and a bit of quality about it.
But once again, in Newcastle,
they just give the ball away in midfield.
It's played up to Rooney.
Nani.
Cross, really.
Manchester United, 51 points.
Arsenal, 51.
Chelsea, 47.
Four sides, back on 39.
Liverpool, Everton, amongst them.
Lovely ball!
Manchester United goal.
Gonna miss these four players away
at the African Cup of Nations, though.
Here's Rooney!
Givens' leg is enough to prevent No. 4.
Manchester's taken a very good seat
from this fierce young man.
Here, though, is Rooney.
Was enough to push him.
Play on, though, with Nani.
It's Michael Carrick!
The corner.
Nani.
To Rooney.
To Nani!
Paduka.
By Enrique from Michael Carrick,
who would have loved a goal against Newcastle.
Van der Sar stranded,
and Carrick in danger of scoring at the other end.
Well, is that bored Van der Sar?
In fact, he's gonna get involved in the game.
Should have been a goal.
N'Zogbia.
It's a decent run.
Very, very insatiable.
Here he goes.
It's Ronaldo.
Lovely turn!
Casapha with the challenge.
Deflected wide.
Well, it could have when he said...
John O'Shea to Wayne Rooney.
And here's Ferdinand!
O'Shea to Rooney.
Away from Rossonale.
Pilled against Carrick.
It's out to O'Shea.
Here for Van.
Oh, this man, he just gets that little bit of luck
when he's in danger of deflection.
But he has deserved it.
There's no doubt about that.
And when this ball drops into him,
well, you don't expect him to panic, and he doesn't.
As this drops down here.
See you later, son.
And there's the little bit of luck that he needs.
That little deflection to get his hat trick.
22nd goal of the season.
Just into the...
John O'Shea.
And to the end!
Wonderful finish again,
leaving the keeper absolutely no chance.
Alan Smith
has been sent off
for venting his frustration
to Robb Styles.
And his return
to Old Trafford ends.
It was a straight red for foul and abusive language.
It wasn't just a defeat
for Newcastle.
It was a demolition!
And enjoying himself more than
any other of the Manchester United players,
Cristiano Ronaldo
with his first hat trick in English football.
Two for Carlos Tevez.
One.
A rasping finish
from Rio Ferdinand.
Six goals in the second half.
Six in the space of 40 minutes.
Three in the last six minutes.
And in the most resounding possible fashion,
Manchester United say to Arsenal,
we're not going away.
