Well, the Lakers also traded one of the top 75 players of all
time. Then MVP and Russell Westbrook for D'Angelo Russell
Malik Beasley and Jared Vanderbilt, Minnesota Timbles
also involved in the deal. They get Mike Conley jr. On the kill
Alexander Walker. So a lot of moving parts in this deal. Let's
focus on the basketball part in the shooting that the Lakers
receive and two guys who have proven that they can knock down
shots from outside.
Yeah, I love it.
I love the youth by what they've done.
I'm Malik Beasley, obviously can flat-out shoot the basketball.
I love everything about this when you look at this trades
D'Angelo Russell is once a Laker now comes back.
He can shoot there also play off LeBron James and Anthony
Davis. So I like it, you know for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Do I think now this gets them over a hump?
We talked about earlier now the Phoenix Suns this really pushes
the Los Angeles Lakers.
You always want to improve but I don't think this gets
the top echelon of Western Conference teams.
I agree with Smitty.
I don't think their ceiling is championship, but they did get
better and they've said with LeBron and Anthony Davis.
We think we have a shot in a playoff series.
Well, we'll see if they do now.
They have some more shooting and more of an opportunity for
LeBron and AD and the franchise to be successful.
You predicted Russell Westbrook will get bought out and be on
the market.
Where do you think he ends up?
I think the LA Clippers are the frontrunner and should be the
frontrunner.
If Westbrook wants a bigger role than the Chicago Bulls need
a starting point guard.
Miami always likes talent.
They like reclamation projects in Southeast, but I would like
the Clippers.
I look at the Clippers with a need with Kawhi Leonard and
Paul George in a championship contending team.
I think that's the best fit for Westbrook.
Los Angeles Lakers are expected to bring guard Russell Westbrook
off the bench versus Minnesota allowing him to play more as
the primary playmaker for the second unit sources tell ESPN.
I would just go there now because it just seems like where
it's headed.
Anyway, if he really is as bought in as Darvin Hamm and
everyone else has been saying he is then he should be willing
and accepting of coming off the bench.
I think it's positive.
Russell is best with the basketball and I think Russ would
like pace.
He wants to get up and down.
So I think it might be an asset if he coming off the bench,
he can dictate that salute to Russ for play of his magnitude
amount of games.
He started throughout the course of his career for him to trust
me trust us and try to allow it to work.
That's the type of sacrifice.
We need if I'm Russell Westbrook last year was awful last year
was in my hometown with my friends and family hearing Westbrook
all the time.
It was really hard to watch him go through that.
I can't imagine living through that.
So where is Russ's head at right now?
It is on reestablishing himself and reasserting himself as an
all-star level player.
I'm so happy for him and he's been phenomenal.
Nothing short of amazing.
I'm so happy man.
I can't even imagine what that kid is going through man.
One of the biggest things about me getting this job was for
him to get that respect that he deserved because a lot of what
went on last year was not his fault and everything all the
blame was placed on and so I told him man, just listen to me
believe in me bro.
I'm gonna put you in a position to succeed with the group.
It can't be about me or I or mine.
It's got to be us ours we and he's done that whatever is needed
for me to be able to help the team win.
That's what I'll do and I'll continue doing that as the season
goes along those that have known him since his high school
years have long known that adversity is what forged the nine
time all-star.
I had him when he was a ninth grader and he came to class
every day and he had his basketball bag.
So he had his basketball shoes and he always had his basketball
during Russell's years here at losing her.
He didn't get a lot of Scouts coming out and watching them.
It wasn't till late into his senior year to where something
opened up at UCLA and he was able to get a scholarship.
I just want to thank God for giving us our opportunity and
I think my mom my dad my little brother my coach played high
school basketball here in Los Angeles played college basketball
UCLA.
Now he's going to get to play professional basketball for
the Los Angeles Lakers all right here in his hometown.
It couldn't be better for him and his family.
I think it still hasn't kind of hit me yet that being from
LA watch the parades miss school to try to go to a lot of
things. I can't put into actual words just because you know,
some of these dreams don't come true for people like myself
for Westbrook dreams have taken many forms including becoming
the league's most valuable player.
The longtime fashion icon has long had another dream and this
year he was proud to open the first brick-and-mortar store
for his very own clothing line honor the gift Russell wanted
a store back in 2019 and I got brought on in 2020.
So when we visited this space which used to be the old OVO
store, he made a phone call and we got it when he first started
the brand he started with t-shirts and he started with hoodies
and now we are a full cut-and-sew program with men's women's
and kids.
It's definitely been a ton of hard work to get to where we
are right now.
Russell Westbrook started on a gift in about 2016 as we all
know Russell loves fashion.
He's always loved fashion.
He started with his mother and even when it came down to
doing his like carpet looks that he would do is red carpets.
He had his mother as his inspiration.
Great turnout, great energy, great vibes.
I've known Russell since 2016 and now he's, you know, spreading
out to the world, man, sharing with others.
It's been great, especially in this community, being back home
in LA.
It's great.
So I'm just happy to be here to support him.
This collection it's called District and that is because
Russell attended both private schools and public schools.
It's really true to who Russell is.
He had a pretty good fashion sense mostly in the area of
shoes.
But as we see today, it's extended beyond shoes.
One of the things I love about Russell is his connection to
where he came from.
A lot of his clothing have inner city on there because Russell
grew up right here in the inner city.
He knows what it means to grow up in the struggles and being
able to get out is big time for Russell.
Honor the Gift, I think, inspires the youth.
Russell being from the inner city, I think that we highly
speak about it on each of our pieces.
You really feel like it's deeply rooted in that.
It's from the inner city to the inner city.
