5 Lifestyle Changes for Healthy Clear Skin
Very often I get asked what I did exactly to clear my skin.
I had acne for many years and I tried many different things to heal it,
but I can't say there was one product or one thing that I did to heal my acne completely.
Our skin is a reflection of our health.
So it was a combination of different lifestyle changes
that happened over the course of several years.
So in this video, I'm going to share those changes I made in my life that helped me clear my skin.
When it comes to acne, naturally there tends to be a focus on the physical side of it,
but there's also a psychological part.
Having acne can cause a lot of stress, frustration, and disappointment.
And I know exactly what it's like because I lived it.
I actually have a video where I share my acne story
and I go into detail and talk more about the emotional side of having acne.
It's definitely not easy and that's why my first tip is to look for ways to reduce stress.
When we're stressed, our bodies produce hormones that can trigger more breakouts.
So that's why it's so important to find ways to take care of your emotions
and reduce stress as much as possible.
This can be in the form of journaling out your thoughts and feelings,
having a mindfulness practice like yoga or meditation.
Connecting with others is also a really great way.
I know when I had acne, I isolated myself completely.
I refused to go out because I didn't want people to see my skin.
But when we do this, it's far too easy to get lost in your own thoughts
and feel completely alone in this world.
So connecting with other human beings is also very, very important.
When you're actively taking care of your emotions and your mental health,
your stress levels begin to go down.
And this not only benefits your mind, but also your body, which includes your skin.
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to a diet for clear skin.
We are all different.
Each human body is very unique.
So what works for me may not work for you and vice versa.
But I think something that we can all strive for, no matter what,
is to eat more whole foods and reduce or minimize processed food as much as possible.
Whole foods are nutrient dense,
so they will provide our body with essential vitamins and minerals
that can support healthy skin.
Highly processed food, on the other hand,
will not provide the same level of nutrients
and can actually do the opposite and take away from our health.
This lifestyle change takes time.
It doesn't happen overnight, and that's not the goal.
It's really about the small choices we make every day.
It's the difference between ordering takeout
or making a home-cooked meal that includes nutritious ingredients,
or choosing to eat a handful of berries when you're craving something sweet
instead of eating that bag of processed cookies.
So it's about making healthier food choices wherever possible.
And the truth is, we always have a choice.
There are always going to be healthier options.
I remember having a pretty extensive skincare routine when I was struggling with acne.
I had all kinds of cleansers, tools, spot treatments, face masks,
and instead of helping my skin, I now realize I was actually hurting it.
My skin was not only red and inflamed because of the acne,
but it was also irritated by all of these skincare products that I was using.
So one of the best things I ever did was to simplify my skincare routine.
I realized that my skin didn't need much to be happy.
And this is why I started sharing all kinds of natural remedies
and skincare recipes here on my channel many years ago.
I went back to the basics and I started choosing natural products with simple ingredients.
I recently shared my current morning and night skincare routine,
so you can check that out if you'd like to see what I'm currently using.
I believe our skin thrives on simple and natural
in the same way that our bodies do with whole foods.
When we treat our skin gently, our skin will thank us and it shows.
Our skin is an organ.
And like any organ, it's made up of cells which are composed of water.
And our skin is the largest organ of the body.
So drinking plenty of water is super important.
Drinking plenty of water was probably one of the easiest lifestyle changes for me.
It does require commitment,
but it was much easier for me to swap out all of my drinks for water
than it was to choose to eat healthy when everybody around me was not.
That required a lot of discipline.
Water simply became my primary drink of choice.
And if you're looking for ways to drink more water,
I have an entire video dedicated to that
where I give all my tips and tricks for drinking more water every day.
So I'll have it linked in the description box below.
A lack of sleep triggers those stress hormones that can potentially lead to breakouts.
So getting plenty of sleep every single night is very important.
I know when I had acne, I was definitely not getting enough sleep and it showed in my skin.
I've recently been learning a lot about sleep
and how it affects our body when we're not getting quality sleep every night.
And there are some pretty alarming studies that show the impact it has on our health
when we're not getting plenty of it.
So I'm not going to go into all of the details, but I'm just going to leave it at this.
Sleep is vital for our health.
There is a reason why we spend about a third of our lives sleeping.
Our body is able to heal and regenerate itself when we sleep.
So make sure you're getting plenty of it.
Making these lifestyle changes is a journey.
It takes time. It doesn't happen overnight.
So be patient with yourself and also remember that results come with discipline and consistency.
So if you're looking for more ways to improve your health, I will have a playlist linked here.
Thank you so much for watching and I will see you very soon.
