For goodness sake mum, you still doing those hatches?
Right, change of plan. The hatches are coming out. If they break, they break.
We'll just have to put something over the top of them so we can get new ones.
I'm going to try not to break them.
And this last one, as always, is the stubborn one.
Hello.
You alright?
Yeah, you?
Yeah, all good.
Mum, I can't get the last screw out. Why can't I get the last one out?
Is it turning at all?
No.
Are you definitely using the impact driver the correct way?
Yeah, I haven't done all the other ones with it.
Yeah, just make sure that the impact driver is actually undoing, not tightening when you hit the hammer.
So yeah, first of all, the LED40, time and the impact driver on the correct setting.
Second of all, try the power of the drill on the hammer setting.
And failing all of that, I'll have to come over with the, or when you come back tonight, pick up the dremel tool.
Okay.
You know, I love you. Let me know how you get on.
Will do. Love you.
So the answer is, just get really angry with it because you can't be bothered to go and find some WD-40 and it will come out.
I was just being a bit of a weakling.
Trying to move them as carefully, remove them as carefully as possible.
Because the last one just hatches at some point.
We didn't want to replace them just yet.
You know, I mean, if they break, they break at the end of the day.
But my theory is if I keep the hatch closed, then it will keep the frame all together and stop it twisting.
I'm actually just going to go inside and close the hatch just to give this bit,
the bit that I'm concerned about, just a bit more rigidity.
Make it a bit more rigid.
Cut it off in one piece.
But it's definitely going to need replacing soon.
They're very fragile.
But it's off. It's off. That's the main thing.
Most of that's not too bad, but this side is where it's pretty grim.
Yeah, I'm happy. I'm happy that I got it off.
Now to clean it all up, but it's off.
So, what I'm doing at the moment is pinning this plastic up on the inside,
so I don't completely trash the inside with rust and dirt and stuff.
Hopefully then I can just hoover it from the outside.
A bit of damage limitation.
There you go.
Should make the clean up a bit easier.
I can just get in there with the hoover once I've finished.
Two down, one to go.
This one is surprisingly better than I thought it would be, actually.
There's not much scale on there.
There's a bit there, but apart from that, not too bad.
Happy with that.
Well, I don't know if you can see me with the sun.
This hatch is cleaning up quite nicely, but I've broke the compressor.
The compressor has died.
Our little air master is dead.
It's getting a bit chilly now.
Anyway, I'm just going to aqua still in the places that I've done over the last couple of days.
There has to be a little bit of rust for it to react.
So that's been left to do its thing.
That's me done for the night.
Time to go home now and get warm.
I'm happy.
I've got this hatch out.
This hatch here.
Morning everyone.
Another beautiful day.
A bit overcast.
But it's so calm and still.
Anyway, this is what I managed to do yesterday.
I've just painted the areas, primed the areas ready to get the hatches back on.
But they're going to need another coat.
And then I've just done the same on the spots that I've painted.
It's now touch dry, but it's not ready to overcoat yet.
Just because of the temperatures.
We're using Jotun winter grade paint.
And it's between 0 and 5 degrees at the moment.
So it's somewhere between 26 and 44 hours before we can overcoat.
So it has to be left for a little while.
I managed to get one on this one because that's the one I took out first.
And these two here still need the first coat.
That's what we'll be doing today.
I also want to try and get this off the deck.
Good morning.
Jack had a haircut.
It's a bit all over the place this morning.
But I chopped his hair off.
I need to get back at it with the scissors.
But there you go.
Jack's new style.
Right, let's get some work done.
Did you just touch the paint?
No.
I thought there was a bit of rust there.
I missed and it was bird poop.
And I just wiped it off with my fingers.
I'm going to take the compressor in and wash my hands.
What does that mean?
How can you say that?
Well it's not that one.
It doesn't fit in the hole.
Can you see though?
Excuse me.
Hang on, hang on.
Down there.
You don't want it to fall off.
I don't.
It's sticking in my head.
No, it doesn't fit.
Too big or too small?
Too small.
Okay, so that is a 16.
So try a 17.
I'll do a 17.
It's a 17.
Yep, that's on.
That's definitely on.
Jack.
Lefty loosey, righty.
Doing a great job.
How are we going to get the bolt?
We're not too fussed about getting the bolt.
They'll drop out of the hole.
We just want to undo it.
Doing a great job.
Poke your eye out with a cable tie.
That would be a really bad way
for your eye to go.
It would.
If you're going to lose an eye, you'd want a cool story, wouldn't you?
Yeah, rather than just say.
So when you're older and you're in the pub
and they go,
Jack, how did you lose your eye?
A cable tie.
A cable tie poked it out.
You'd want to say something like,
I got into a fight with a tiger.
A cable tie just poked my eye out.
Right, so while Jack's up there,
I'm undoing
the panel.
Here.
I've nearly got it out.
The bolt didn't come.
Yes.
OK, let's do the other side.
I'm just lifting it in.
It's on.
OK, so we've got both of the
bolts on.
Can you see down there? Can you see anything?
This is disconnected.
Inside, by the way.
Can you see the coffee
table down from here?
One
pedestal.
I wish I'd realised.
The other day I thought it was welded to the deck
and then I was looking at it and looking at it and then I realised
it wasn't welded to the deck.
So I'd wish
I'd managed to get this off earlier on.
I can't clean it up until the
paint
that I've painted is properly dry.
One compass and
pedestal removed by Jack. Well done.
I'll just need to clean that up, but it's actually
surprisingly
not bad. I thought it was going to be rotten under there.
I am going to
resist the urge
to paint the whole
coach roof
because it's not ready.
And just keep prepping until
I can do the whole foredeck.
Summer has ended
The leaves
are turning
That's another day done.
I have
a second coat on that one
and
these coated
and removed the compass.
Now it's just a race against time for the paint to dry.
I've got to let the
correct curing time for the paint
but also
the weather's going to start turning in a few days.
So obviously we need to get the hatches reseated
so
we're on a bit of a tight time schedule.
If I look like I've been dragged through a hedge
backwards, I basically
have. I'm dragging myself under the
boat, just doing the last of
the thickness readings
for the hull. But they're all good, so
happy days. But that was a bit
of an effort.
Right, it's the end of the evening.
The end of the evening? The end of the day.
I am
just doing a fun job
cleaning these
with a toothbrush and some thinners.
And Jack is here!
Hello!
Have you had a good day?
Thank you for all your help today.
You're welcome. I really appreciate it.
The last bit was frustrating, wasn't it?
Crawling around under the boat.
Bye everyone!
Autumn comes too soon
Comes too soon
