It's the 139th international between England and Ireland. First play back in 1875.
We're off and running a Twickenham. There's a real little bit of electricity in the air
as it's gathered by Sam Simmons. Gets his hands on the ball. 13th international cap for Simmons.
Back in number eight shirt. Big plus for Eddie Jones this week. England haven't had the most
auspicious of champions so far. Ireland set about their work. Gundiaki, Gibson Park,
Sexton on the loop and he's watched and watched really well. I think it was Randall who made
the tackle. That'll do the young scrum halves confidence the world it would. Caelan Dorris
through Marchant doing really well to get themselves in those lines of attack for Ireland.
One of the Irish players in real trouble. I think it's James Ryan who's receiving attention and
that's a head injury. We'll keep our eye on the game for the moment but Ryan in trouble.
Maro Toje who we weren't sure was going to make this game but the referee is going to stop because
Ryan is too close to the play. Okay put it on the screen Marius. There's got to be a look at this.
Oh here we go. Takes the ball in. See like that is direct contact. He's upright. He ran the risk.
It's a nice speed. High degree of danger. Clear head contact. I will go for a red card
against the number five please. Well Charlie Yields is going to get a red card.
And we've been down this road in both hemispheres at all competition levels.
If you lead with the head the first thing that happens is your head makes contact
with the head of an opponent conclusion of the referee and he doesn't have any other option.
He has no option at all. You have to have the responsibility being the tackling man. You've
got a split second to do it so you've just got to drop. 963 international points for Jonathan
Sexton. His first opportunity all the afternoon. Up go the flags. Up go the voices of the Irish
that are here. Then Ireland lead it by three points to nil. But what an impact. That decision
from the referee Matthew Reynaud has made on this game. Charlie Yields' throw is gone and
England are down to 14. It really is all going off here. A million miles an hour stuff. Aki,
Ringrose, van der Vleer, a little bit of space. Dan Sheehan, the hooker out on the wing. Sheehan,
the lancerman takes over from Kelleher who's out injured. Both hookers, first choice hookers for
England and Ireland at the start of this championship. Not available. Cowan Dickey,
here's van der Vleer and here's James Lowe. Lowe pins the ear. Absolutely amazing.
What a finish. Sheehan, van der Vleer, drew the man and you could see Neyland's trying to make
up the ground but Lowe just too quick. He could have got inside of Gibson Park. He didn't. He
went to his speedster. He went to the wing of van der Vleer. The numbers were on the left.
Everything was stacked on the right. That's why I said Gibson Park made that decision
to come last. The result is that. That's what faces Jonathan Sexton. Will it come around?
Tackles are made. England defending once more. Burned. It'll pop off to Sheehan and Ireland are
absolutely rampant now. Six meters short of the English line. Gibson Park holds on and England
through Jamie George just about get to it. Still there for Ireland. They're playing seventh rugby
now. Bundy Aki, three meters short. Ring Rose, caught in possession. Another penalty being
offered to Ireland. Keen to cream the crowd. The referee will decide. No try for the year old.
Settles himself. Steps forward. Questionable. The temperament. Jamie George and England. First
real opportunity to attack and George has it. James Lowe. Marcus Smith goes scampering back.
Gibson and chooses to attack and Sexton are in touch over on the far side. Wow. Caleb Dorris
flicks it on. Bundy Aki. Ring Rose has a little look up and forces a kick through but the referee.
An opportunity for Marcus Smith to bounce back and lead to within two. Gibson Park, Key and Healy.
Sheehan. George slips off the first tackle. Allows Ireland to get going forward. Key and Healy though
can't control it. Ireland get the penalty. Gibson Park allowed to take it quickly. Ireland are almost
there. Hugo can try. Quick penalty. Beautiful finish. Again bounced a few tackles.
And again all that yardage again and England come back into the game. What you need is that
precision in the 22. Come away. They know all about it. You get down there. You execute. You kill move.
Out through Jack Knoll. Trying to charge it down. Perfectly legal. Doesn't put set. It's about Marcus
Smith. It's about Dombrat. It's about England going in search of more points in the final
minute of this first half. Where is it? Randall has it. Itoje. Tige Byrne and Henderson goes after
the ball but he's off his feet. He has to leave it alone. Doesn't leave it alone. It's another
penalty for England. It's a cheap one given away by Henderson. He didn't need to do it
and England will gratefully receive those. Final act of the first half. That's had a little bit
of everything. Marcus Smith adds another three. 14 players on the pitch but they have acquitted
themselves really well. Still lead it though and lead it by 15 points to nine. So then at the start
of this second half at Twickenham. Last Nations and England get a hold of the ball from that restart
and punch a hole through Dombrat and if they can get the first points of this second half
well psychologically what an enormous impact that could have on this game.
And Simmonds runs into some strong tackling from Ireland in midfield led by Bundiaki and
assisted by Jonathan Sexton. Smith to the end. So far the fullbacks have managed all that's been
asked of them and Hugo Keenan continues that trend but England get numbers there.
End of the game for 29 minutes. To survive this game or to get yourself ahead in this game you've
just got to be pretty clued into what you need to do and that's good.
Smith boats the armour in an attempt to draw the sides level. Nobody saw this but I know when he's
going to be leaving this place until the final minute that is for sure. Gibson Park, Tyke Furlong,
Walla White in front of him. Led by Laws. Itoje there as well. Ireland get to ground. Ball should
be there for Gibson Park. It is van der Vleer. Ireland have men both sides. Herring one of them
just held up short. Gibson Park looks one way. May go the narrower of the two sides. Sexton is picked
off. Restores Ireland's lead. As much as anything else right now into the 22 Ireland go. Sexton 12
phases Ireland go through and the legs England so stoic for so long. Again Ireland have actually
started playing now as they did at the start of the game. I've got to say I think he was
is it Keenan that actually just held that ball up held that ball up and popped that ball through
and it just comes out and again it's a matter of numbers this time. The dam has split. The dam has
broke. Ireland get through and I don't think England are coming back from there. What a 74
minutes or so we've had. It's had a little bit of everything as Jonathan Sexton looks to add
and another two which he does and Ireland have a cushion. 25 points to 50 inside the final five
minutes. 10 points the margin. So often in this game it didn't look like Ireland were going to be
the drive and is it the try from Finlay Beelum. Fourth try. A bonus point try. Five minutes ago
it seemed faster for Fulcett. The go forward man low there. Get him on that ball. He's been a bit
quiet this first and second half as opposed to the first and then it's just a pick up
from the dreadlocked drop. That is it. I can officially say England are coming back from here.
One big last scrum from England. Here it goes. How Murray to touch. They've won at Twickenham.
It took some some time to find their way after an enormously brave and confident and able display
by 14 man England but in the end they showed the composure and class required on a final score
of England 15, Ireland 32.
